Dizzy Gillespie
First you learn your instrument. Then you learn music. Then you forget both of those and just blow.
Similar to a masterpiece jazz composition, the listener is unable to talk about the performance as effectively as the performance itself. The observer must interact with the composition in order to experience it. The viewer must listen to drawings that provoke the speculative.
This project is not about traditional plans, sections or graphics. It asks questions about the construction of space, scale, detail, and articulation. The project suggests that improvisation in architecture is not normally practiced as a design process.
The process is a cause and effect relationship that begins as a simple underlying structure that grows with compulsion. The structure develops into a metamorphic labyrinth similar to three-dimensional chess. The studies are a complex piece of resultant simplicity derived from an ordered language, employing the elements of size, shape, treatment, location, and orientation.
The complexity is discernible, traceable back to the original order. It is an open-ended, self-perpetuating continuum similar to fractals. The designer can interrupt the process at any time, allowing for the extraction of space from two-dimensional drawings into three dimensions at any scale, as a building or as an urban design.
