You are asked to provide a response to two prompts, both of which you must answer, using a maximum of 1,000 words total. You may allocate the word count as you wish. If you choose to re-spond to one prompt at greater length, we suggest your shorter answer be no less than 250 words.

Why is the personal statement so important?

The personal statement:

• enrichesandcompletesyourapplication;

• providessupplementalinformationthatallowsadmissions staff to discover and evaluate dis-tinctions among applicants whose academic records are often very similar;

• maybeusedbytheScholarshipsOfficeinconsideration for an award.

What does berkeley look for in the personal statement?

What should i discuss as a transfer applicant?

• readtheinstructionsandaddressthetwoprompts. Allow time for reflection, preparation, and revisions. In general, focus on relatively recentactivitiesandexperiences.

• Telluswhoyouare,whatyoudo,andwhyyoumade those choices. After we have read your statementwewillask,“Whatdoweknowaboutthisindividual?”Ifwehavelearnedlittleabout you, your personal statement has not been successful.
