Bethany Christian School Newsletter 2018 1 NEWSLETTER BETHANY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL IN THIS ISSUE Welcome to our final Newsletter for Term 3. It has been a term full of excitement and challenge, particularly for our Primary stu- dents who are participating in the Learning Festival. This time has caused students and teachers alike to need to think about how to present a story through a range of creative mediums. These ‘products’ continue to amaze us and I wanted to share some more pictures with you of some of our prototypes. The use of experts and our peers has helped us to improve our products through spe- cific feedback. The organisation group has continued to work to plan ways to gather information and put together a plan for how the festival will run on the night. It is very exciting to be a part of the learning and I would continue encourage you to speak with your child about their learning journey. We are continuing to plan our next build- ing project and our application is before Salisbury Council. We are hoping that this will start at the end of this school year with construction occurring in 2019 ready for 2020. The building will accommodate Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 students. We will also further develop the area in front of the Performing Arts Centre to provide an outdoor learning space which will be fenced off providing further security and using this space in front of the canteen for learning and play. Parent teacher interviews are occurring this week and next Tuesday so please make sure that you have booked in to see your child’s teacher. These are important times to keep communicating with your child’s teacher so that you can continue to work together pro- viding encouragement and support for you child. A good working relationship between the child, home and school will always pro- vide the best outcomes. Thank you for your willingness to participate through attending these interviews. Next week is the last week of the term with our students finishing at 3:10pm on Friday 28th September. IN THIS ISSUE Welcome to our final Newsletter for Term 3. It has been a term full of excitement and challenge, particularly for our Primary stu-dents who are participating in the Learning Festival. This time has caused students and teachers alike to need to think about how to present a story through a range of creative mediums. These ‘products’ continue to amaze us and I wanted to share some more pictures with you of some of our prototypes. The use of experts and our peers has helped us to improve our products through spe-cific feedback. The organisation group has continued to work to plan ways to gather information and put together a plan for how the festival will run on the night. It is very exciting to be a part of the learning and I would continue encourage you to speak with your child about their learning journey.

We are continuing to plan our next build-ing project and our application is before Salisbury Council.

These are important times to keep communicating with your child’s teacher so that you can continue to work together pro-viding encouragement and support for you child. A good working relationship between the child, home and school will always pro-

vide the best outcomes. Thank you for your willingness to participate through attending these interviews.

Next week is the last week of the term with our students finishing at 3:10pm on Friday 28th September.

I trust that you will have a restful holiday break where you get some family time to enjoy one another and to have some fun together.

    Deputy’s CornerJump Rope for Heart

Last Friday the school participated in another highly successful Jump Rope for Heart day. The weather was fabulous which supported such an amazing day. The students all participated extremely well and had a wonderful time while raising money for a worthy cause. Even a monarch butterfly tried to get in on the action, attaching itself to the bottom of one young student’s shoe while she was sitting down. It was a fan-tastic day had by all, and a big shout of thanks goes to Mr Nathan Grieger who organised the Jump Rope for Heart day.

    Uniform for Term 4

Unbelievably, third term is almost over! Just a quick reminder that students will need to wear their Summer uniform next term. The teaching staff and Uniform Shop staff will be able to answer

your questions in regards to the summer uniform, and you will be able to find all of the uniform requirements in the Student Diary on pages 13-15. Also keep in mind, the Uniform Shop does have second hand uniforms on sale which may help you, especially if your child is in Year 6 and requires a bigger uniform for just Term 4. Feel free to visit our Uniform Shop and have a chat to our friendly staff who will be able to assist you. Please see the photos below for the correct summer uniform

    Parent Teacher Interviews

In Week 9 and 10 this term we are holding our Parent Teacher Interview nights (Thursday 20th and Tuesday 25th of September). If you have not already booked a time with your child’s teacher, it is not too late! Contact the Front Office and speak to Karen Julius who will be able to help you.

I wish you a wonderful final two weeks of Term 3. I also pray that you and your families will have a safe and refreshing two week school break.

    God bless you,

    Deb Clifford

On Sunday September 9 Faith Keath took part in a piano recital organised through the Independent Music Teachers of S.A. at Hampstead Lutheran Church, Greenacres.

This was Faith’s first piano recital and she put in an outstanding performance keeping the nerves in check and playing with a high degree of accuracy.

Faith performed “Bach Minuet” and “The Queen’s Royal Entrance”.

She was very well-presented and professional in her approach. Great effort Faith!

    TERM 3 HIGHLIGHTS

    World War One Memorial

Bethany Christian School has been successful in obtaining a grant from the Veteran Affairs Department to build a memorial to honour those that have fought and currently fight for freedom for us and our country and those who will fight for us in the future.

This year marks the 100 year anniversary of the signing of the WWI Armistice and the memorial titled, ‘We Honour Them.’ It will be erected by the rear staff car park.

This is a community project so we are asking all those that want to be involved in honouring our soldiers to join us by bringing in a rock that will form the structure. The rock must be bigger than a brick but not bigger than 8 bricks. It can be any colour or shape as this will represent the diversity among our school community.

As this is a community project staff, students, family and friends both past and present are invited to be involved.

The rocks will need to be at school before 26th October to be included in the structure. They can be placed in front of the Year 4 classrooms on the dirt / grass area.

It is a real privilege to be trusted to complete this project so “happy rock hunting” and we are looking forward to seeing as many as possible involved.

    TERM 3 HIGHLIGHTS

Outdoor Fun in OSHC No more rain means more time for outside play!

    Importance of outdoor play.

Playing outdoors promotes wellbeing by decreasing stress and increasing physical exercise. It also helps children explore their natural environment, express their creativity and develop resilience and coordination skills. In OSHC kids engage in numerous outdoor activities such as:

Outdoor games –such as running, jumping, balancing, skipping and playing ball games strengthen muscles and help develop motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Treasure Hunt - kids will enjoy finding the hidden treasures outdoor. Group Story Telling – children will be relaxed during outdoor storytelling. Outside homework time - homework time will be more enjoyable outside. Outdoor drawing – drawing birds, insects and other things found outdoors. Outdoor exploration – explore and learn about all the things they see. Picnic – kids can take their snacks outside to eat.

Meet the team We’re here to make OSHC the best experience possible. If you have any questions about the program, feel free to drop by, meet the team and see what happens first hand in the program. Program details To find out more about our program, view fees and to register visit www.campaustralia.com.au
