to come along. I would also remind you if your child does have asthma to make sure that any preventer medication is taken on that day to help with student safety. In Week 9 our Reception and Year 1 students have their swimming lessons. Please read and return the notices that you receive to your class teacher. They will provide you more specific informa-tion for you. Last week you would have received an email about Parent Teacher Interviews, making sure that you have an email address that is correct in order to book your interviews in Week 9 or 10. If you did not receive an email, please contact the school office to update your infor-mation. It is important that we have a correct email address and up to date contact information. If you have had any changes please let us know.At the end of this term, we have an early dismissal for Easter. This is to line up with Temple Christian College and to give families the opportunities to travel for Easter. If you need to work until normal pick up time, our OSHC program is open from 12:10pm to accommodate children. If you would like to book in for this day, please go to our website and click the link. If you have any questions about this you can visit our OSCH before or after school each day or ask for assis-tance at the office. If you have not yet completed the Holiday Program survey, please follow the link and respond so that we can offer regular holiday pro-gram for Bethany students on site. This year we have continued with our
Welcome to our Week 7 Newsletter. It continues to be a busy and productive term. Last Thursday our students en-joyed the Police Band as they performed for us. Our Year 5 students enjoyed their camp at Illawonga and we look forward to our Cross Country event this Friday. Students in Year 2 through to Year 6 will participate in a run from the oval and on a course designed by the Sports Depart-ment. These year levels participate at a particular time, so please refer to your teacher if you are not sure when your child will participate. You are welcome
participation in the ‘Rudolph Project’. We join with a number of other Inde-pendent schools in South Australia to explore how we can help students to find their individual strengths. Just like Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer who had a very shiny nose, others didn’t see this as a strength until one night when Rudolph’s nose became the very thing that brought an answer to the problem they all had. We are learning how to identify problems that need solving and then what we can do to solve them. The initial problem that we decided to solve was that Mr Mab was the only one trying to create media for our school and so we were limited by his time restraints. In 2016, a Media team was formed and we worked together to understand how we can work together with adults and students making equal contributions. This week our past students returned for a meeting after school to talk about what they had learned while participat-ing in the project. It is wonderful to see the way that these students express a new sense of confidence and optimism for their future. I am excited to see how this will transfer further in to our school community. I will continue to connect with others and learn how building entrepreneurial thinking will benefit us as a learning community in preparing students for the 22nd Century. I pray that you will have a lovely week-end.Thank you,
Wendy Matear Principal

Term 1 Highlights
Parents & Friends
If you’re keen on finding out about another easy way to become more involved in the events of school life, maybe you’d like to consider becom-ing a P & F Helper? Throughout the year, we have a host of events that you might like to be a part of. You wouldn’t have to come to any meet-ings or be involved in any planning, but just come along on the day and help out. And, whether you can help out for an hour or stay for the whole day, you’re most welcome.
As a P & F Helper, you might be asked to: • help prepare or serve refresh-
ments• help laminate or display posters• help sell products at a stall• help shop for food, prizes, gifts,
etc• help set or clear tables• help decorate rooms or spaces• help count, price or label stock• help wash or re-stack dishes• help vacuum or sweep floors• help move or return furniture• help wash or iron tablecloths• help host students or parents
This year, we’d like to put a list of P & F Helpers together, so why not consider offering a little of your time to work alongside other parents of our school and have some fun at the same time! We’d love to hear from you. With your name and contact details supplied, we can contact you from time to time to see if you’re free to volunteer some time to help out at an event.
If you’d like to become a P & F Helper, please let either myself or one of the P&F team know. For a list of who’s a part of the P & F Team for 2017, please see:
• Abby Penaluna• Anne Harding• Annie Sunusuwarno• Bec Richardson• Bianca Gill• Bronnie Lyrtzis• Danielle Bradtke• Dean Huntley• Lisa Kelly• Lizzie Osborn• Monika Heida• Naomi Bassham• Natasha Cope• Nguyet Ho• Viva Phetsikhio

Good sleeping and eating routines
The term is well and truly underway with us reaching week 7 already! Our brand new Reception students have started their very first full time school week which can be exhausting for some.
Even for our older students, the school week can be very tiring. It is so vitally important to give our children the very best opportunity to learn by helping them to develop excellent sleeping habits and rou-tines at home.
School children aged from 5 to 12 require approximately 10-11 hours of sleep. Of course, some need more and occasionally some will need less sleep than others. Research has prov-en that poor sleep or a lack of sleep can lead to moodiness, behaviour or cognitive problems which impact their learning.
Constant and predictable bedtime routines assist with getting children into bed ‘on time’ and to sleep so that they can have their required amount of sleep.
Some suggestions for nightly rou-tines might be:
• Bathing and brushing teeth at the same time each night.
• Not watching TV too close to bedtime.
• Having a quiet, dark bedroom free from electronic devices (ie televisions, iPads, iPhones, com-puters etc)
• A routine bedtime story or a sim-ilar quiet time before sleep
• Making sure everything is organ-ised and packed ready for the next school day
While not every household will have the same routine, children find great comfort and security in having sta-bility and consistency in their lives. There are a large number of useful websites devoted to the topic and if you are concerned or would like to
learn more about helpful sleeping routines, you are able to call Parent Helpline by phoning 1300 364 100 (local call cost in South Australia).
Volunteer training update
If you have not yet signed up to be a school volunteer, it is not too late! A volunteer pack can be collected from the Front Office. You will need a current Police Check and you will need to attend a Volunteer’s Induc-tion session. To work with any of our students on the school campus, on excursions or camps you will need to be a registered volunteer. For further enquiries, please speak to Rachel Abdy at the Front Office.
Car park and Kiss ‘n’ Drop Update
The building of the new car park and Kiss ‘n’ Drop road has well and truly begun behind the Goodstart Early Learning Centre. This new develop-ment should help alleviate some of the congestion being experienced with our current drop-off and pick-up traffic. Just a friendly reminder that when using our turning circle, please proceed immediately to either the Temple or Bethany turning circle. Waiting on the road in between the two turning circles for any length of time causes road blockages and cre-ates annoyance in other road users. Please keep the traffic moving at all times when on the school premises.
I wish you a wonderful week!
God bless you,
Deb Clifford
