With an estimated 1 in 5 children experiencing mental health challenges every year, and

suicide being the second leading cause of death in those ages 12-17, mental health in

children has become an increasingly pressing public health issue.

BeTWEEN the Lines is designed to confront this issue. It is a collection of books written

for 4-6th graders where the main character is facing a mental health challenge. These

books serve as both a window and a mirror for tweens everywhere.

The creation of this bibliography was supported by a Carnegie Whitney Grant from the

American Library Association.
