It was not only evacuation that brouht together sections of society who in peacetime had little to do with one another. The armed forces gathered together men from different classes; bombs fell on the rich as well as the poor; wartime industry attracted into it women who in peacetime might never have considered such work.

Source B describes the Beveridge Report of 1942.

Source B

The Beveridge Report was important. It simplfied existing insurance benefits and made the system of paying fairer. It had revolutionary ideas. It suggested that society could fight the five giants of poverty. It also said that people should be free from certain things like want and disease. It was a report which worried the Prime Minister because it might cost too much to implement.
