Logo for the Bicentennial of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Usage Manual

• The logo will provide an identity to the Bicentennial of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, as an event by itself, and to its preparation path.

• It must be easy to read and must make reference to common, and well known elements, as our Institute is present in more than 30 countries. From an aesthetic point of view it must be modern and culture compatible, everywhere.

• It should be presented in different languages (the three official languages of the institute –English, French and Spanish– plus Portuguese and Italian) so that everyone can feel it belongs to him. It will be possible to adapt it to other languages if necessary.

• It should be possible to use it, both in a small size in black and white, as the heading of a sheet, for example, or very big and colored, as for a banner to preside over a ceremony.

• Ideally, it should be present in all the events, publications, web sites and communications throughout the preparation path (2018 to 2020) and during the Bicentennial itself (2021).

Goals

This is the logo that will be used to provide an identity to the Bicentennial of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart.

The logo is based on the number 200, which refers us directly to the fact of celebrating a Bicentennial. Jesus’ Heart replaces the first zero that occupies the center of the number. The second zero is replaced by a representation of the world that together with Jesus’ Heart, are the essential elements of our traditional emblem.

The meridians and parallels in the world are not fully finished, as they represent human reality, always unfinished and needy of God’s love. Jesus’ Heart is open on the side close to the world, to represent His permanent bequest to mankind.

The final representation of both zeros linked together supplements the meaning of the logo. Both are united as a representation of the love of God towards His creation. They are also an infinity symbol since God’s love is unlimited.

The logo for the Bicentennial is built on a base grid in which each square equals x.

The total dimension of the logo on this grid is 19x width by 15x height. The isotype measures are 19x by 9x and it is separated from the text by a space of 1x. The width of the text varies according to its language, but in all cases it is contained in a rectangle of 19x by 5x.

To preserve its visual integrity, the logo is protected by a minimum empty area where no other graphic elements may be present.

This area extends 5x from the outermost points of the logo body. To make it easier to apply, this measurement equals the width of the number 2 that composes the isotype.

Though the text location under the image is prioritized, there is also the possibility to use the logo with the text at the right, which might be more convenient in certain cases.

The compositional alternative for the logo for the Bicentennial is built on a base grid in which each square equals x.

As the length of the text changes for each language, the total dimensions of the logo on this grid vary between 36x and 39x in width by 9x in height. As in the main version of the logo, the isotype measures are 19x by 9x and it is separated from the text by a space of 1x. The width of the text varies according to its language between 16x and 19x in width by 5x in height.

Red has been chosen as the main colour, as it is distinctive of Jesus’ Heart and blood shed for us.

Blue has been chosen for the text as together with the red image and the white background they constitute the French flag and remind us of our origin.

The values for these colors are presented for both printed media as well as digital media.
