THE CHAIRMAN SPEAKS•••

The beginning of a new Lionisticyear brings with it a new start inmany ways. This year has been avery difficult one for me as I lostmy life partner, my best friend,my wife. However, in dealing withmy loss I have found theimportant things in life, family, friends and Lions I've come to

depend on in whatever I do.

Our personal philosophy has always been"whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he reap".During our many years together there was ourmutual and continued support for those in need.Bev and I often commented on all the donationswe made to help the physically challenged, theelderly, the churches, our various friends andcharities. We always found that no matter whatwe gave it never compared to the incrediblysatisfying feeling we received.

I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring oflove, affection and concern for my family sinceBev's passing. Not just from the families, friendsand local people but it came from afar with manyLions showing their love, and compassion. It iswith their love and concern that I begin the newLionistic year doing all I can to help those in need.

There is a great need for helping the WisconsinLions Foundation to continue its projects in thefuture. The need is for each of us to make PridePersonal so the Foundation's Statewide Projectsand Lions Camp can continue in the future.

I know it can be done through your personalgiving to the WLF-Lions Pride Endowment Fund.Choose to give NOW...become a recipient in thefuture of a great foundation ... the Wisconsin LionsFoundation.

I am asking each of you to join me this year,Make PRIDE Personal. Secure our Legacy ofService that began 53 years ago.

Helen Steiner Rice said "In this troubled world, itis refreshing to find someone who still has thetime to be kind. Someone who still has faith tobelieve that the more you give, the more youreceive. Someone who is ready by thought, word,or deed to reach out a hand in the hour of need."This is the WLF's hour of need.

Lions Pride Campaign.Excerpts from the 2007 - 2008 Annual Report

PCC DuWayne "Dewey" Carl, Campaign Chairman

LIONS PRIDE DONOR ApPRECIATION DAYSDonor Appreciation Days, hosted by the Lions Pride Staff, are unlike any other r I

opportunity to visit Lions Camp. Lion Pauline Schiferl, who has visited theCamp on numerous occasions commented, "I have never experienced LionsCamp like this." The day is filled with opportunities to interact with thecampers and staff including various camp activities, lunch with the campers attheir "cabin" tables and culminating with a wagon ride tour of our beautifulfacilities.

Tuesday, July 15th we were blessed with, absolutely gorgeous weather. The smell of sun

warmed pine surrounded us as we watchedcampers learn the fine art of archery in hopes of outscoring theircounselors ... the reward ...winners earned the right to douse the losingside with buckets of water at the flag poles after lunch. The counselorsoutscored the campers, but when playing water games on a hotsummer day ... there are no real losers.

The highlight of the day on Wednesday wasfound at the Climbing Tower. Two young girls cautiously mounted thetower, while staff and fellow campers shouted words of encouragement,"just a little higher", "you can do it" and "great job". We were genuinelymoved to see looks of confidence replace the initial worry on the campersfaces as they climbed ever higher on the wall. Watching the two campersself esteem develop right before our eyes ... it touched all our hearts and wastangible proof of how Lions Camp truly does change our special camperslives forever.

Ensuring future generations will be afforded the same experiences is whythe success of the Lions Pride Campaign is vital to the future of Lions Campand all the Wisconsin Lions Foundation Statewide Projects.

Individuals donating at the $2000 level and above are invited to DonorAppreciation Days. If you have not given or pledged at that level or higher, consider making or increasing your gift giving and join us next year for atruly unforgettable experience.

The Lions Pride Campaign has come a long way in the past year. Much has been accomplished withlimited staff and resources, especially given other simultaneous fundraising projects. We have a

. considerable way to go to achieve our goal-but the importance of reaching it has never been moreclear.

In the last decade, annual Wisconsin Lions Foundation operating expenses have increased 57% whileClub donations grew 20%. The challenge of the future looms large; for that reason, it is critical thatthe Lions Pride Campaign be successful. The Campaign mission is to provide an enduring legacy forWisconsin Lions Statewide Projects that help Lions serve their local communities. It's goal is apermanent, $25 million endowment fund generating earnings to supplement Annual Club donations(always essential) and assure future operating income.

Pride is different from any of the Wisconsin Lions Foundation other fundraising efforts. Our primaryfocus is on generating donations from individuals. Pride is Personal.

This land is our land.

From the pine treeforests to LionsLake waters-thisland was built byus for them.Lions Camp in Rosholt.Where special kids canspend a week, free.Where you can visit andsense their joy and arefreshed love of life, and feel anew what it isto be a Lion.

Lions Camp is our pride,440 acres, a privatelake, beautifullymaintained buildings, cabins, dining hall, health lodge, meetingrooms, activity centers, eyeglass recycling, administrative andmaintenance facilities.

Today, there is a challenge if we are to serve the legacy of Lions past. In the last decade, WisconsinLions Foundation expenses have increased 57%. Annual Lions Club donations are critical and willalways remain so, but now cover less than half of annual operating expenses.

Inflation and other costs defy control and continue to escalate. Lions Camp, as we have known it,simply cannot continue-unless something changes.

There is one promising and lasting solution for preserving Camp and the other Statewide Projects thatthe Wisconsin Lions Foundation is charged to administer. It lies with interest earnings from thepermanent WLF Lions Pride Endowment Fund dedicated to continuing the Wisconsin Lions Foundationoperations. Success depends on the prompt and generous charitable donations of Lions and friends toreach our $25 million goal. Please help. Choose to Make Pride Personal.
