Help Wanted in Religious Education

We are actively seeking to fill an opening in Billerica Catholic Religious Education for a Coordinator for Grades 1-2. This is a paid, part-time position in our exciting new program. We have even been commended for our approach by the Archdiocese!

As you may know, this year we combined our three separate programs into one, in which we are teaching a unified curriculum in each of our three locations; one lesson plan is prepared for each class. We are also including the parents of our elementary students in the classroom.

If you, or someone you know, might be interested, Deacon Phil would be happy to chat. Feel free to con-tact him at [email protected] or 978-857-0369.

Billerica Catholic Religious Education registration is open for 2016-17

We are pleased to open registration for the fall. While many aspects of the BCRE program are un-changed from last year, we have made some changes based on feedback from parents, volunteers, and staff. First, some class lengths and start times have been adjusted. Saturday classes have been discontin-ued, due to low enrollment. Second, and perhaps most importantly, we will limit the number of students

who can attend each class to allow more manageable class sizes.

After a class session is filled, families will be directed to our Home Study program, and be wait-listed for classes. The number of students who can attend classes depends on the number of volunteers.

Please take this opportunity to volunteer for our program so that we may place as many children as possi-

ble in classes. The registration form for students and the form for interested volunteers can be found on our website: reled.billericacatholic.org.

Billerica Catholic Religious Education Office Summer Hours

We invite you to stop by the BCRE Office to return your Religious Education Forms on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 am to 2 pm for the summer beginning June 27 through the month of August. The BCRE Office will also be closed the week of 4th of July. Happy Summer!

Vacation Bible School 2016

The Catholic Community of Billerica is pleased to offer a Vaca-tion Bible School again this summer. The theme will be “Parachute with the Angels & St. Catherine Labouré.” Children entering kindergarten through grade 5 in September are welcome to register by Thursday, June 30. VBS will run July 11 – July 15 from 8:45 am to noon.

The registration form is on reled.billericacatholic.org. Volunteers are needed. For questions or to volunteer, contact Deb Fergus at

[email protected] or 978-667-3733 x42.

Opportunity Ending for Holy Land Pilgrimage

You are invited on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with Father Marty on January 10-19, 2017. This travel opportunity will be spiritually directed by a group of priests from the Archdiocese of Boston: Fr. Frank Silva of

St. Margaret (Burlington), Fr. Martin Dzengeleski (Catholic Com-munity of Billerica), Fr. Joseph D’Onofrio (Quincy Catholic Col-laborative), and Fr. Arthur MacKay (St. Paul and St. John Col-laborative Wellesley).

Anyone interested in joining Fr. Marty on the pilgrimage must provide a deposit of $800 by the end of June along with a regis-trat ion form. Information can be found at

www.travelillume.com/trc/ebg or follow links from our Collabo-rative website: billericacatholic.org.

We will be traveling during a beautiful time of the year in the Holy Land, when historical and religious sites are quieter and more conducive to a reflective visit and where the landscape is so evocative of the 1st cen-tury. We will celebrate Mass each day at sites where Jesus and his early disciples gathered and/or where pilgrims have gathered over the centu-ries.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to walk in the footsteps of Jesus along the shores of Galilee and through the historical streets of Jerusa-

lem. Traveling with a group of priests and pilgrims from Boston will make this a very moving and rich opportunity that few have a chance to enjoy. Please join us and invite your friends to journey with you.

Upcoming Deadlines

Attention Current Kindergarten Parents!

Now is the time to register your child for Religious Education Classes. Prepara-tion for First Communion and First Reconciliation is a two-year process which begins once a student registers. Registration forms are available at the Religious Education Office, at reled.billericacatholic.org, or at the entrances to the church.

Encounter: Bible Study for Middle Schoolers

We are offering a four-week Bible Study for Mid-dle School students (those who completed grades 6-8 in 2016). Encounter is a life-changing experience that speaks to the hearts and minds of middle school aged kids. Partici-pants will be drawn into God’s story and will

come to a new understanding of who God is ~ a loving Father who desires a meaningful and last-ing encounter with them. Sessions will be held on July 17 & 31 and August 14 & 28 at St. Andrew (9-10am), St. Mary (11am-12pm), and St. Theresa (4-5pm). A $20 offering is requested for materials.

Counting Mass Attendance

As an increase in Mass attendance was one of the goals identified in our Pastoral Plan, we will begin regularly

counting the number of Mass attendees. With this tool, we can see where there is a trend.

Youth and Teen Baptisms

Do you know a child or teen who has never been Baptized? The Religious Education Office is forming a group for young people seeking Bap-tism, so that they might prepare to receive the Sacraments of Initiation and be formed in our Catholic faith together. For more information please contact Tony Carbrello, Assistant Director of Faith Formation, at 978-667-3733 x45 or [email protected].

Roof Donations Needed

The Billerica Knights of Columbus, along with councils from surrounding towns, have donated to the Daughters of St. Paul’s St. Thecla Retreat House to help repair the damaged roof from last year’s heavy snow. The retreat house is used throughout the year by our Confirmation students. Donations to assist with the roof repair can be mailed to the retreat house directly: 77 Dudley Road; Billerica, MA 01821.

July Food Drive

In July the St. Vincent de Paul Society food drive will be on Saturday the 2nd and Sunday the 3rd after all the Masses.

We are in need of: canned items (fruit, soup,

canned meat, etc.); boxed items (cereals, pasta, rice, etc.); additional items (peanut butter, condi-ments, paper products, shampoo, soap, etc.).

We will accept any non-perishable items, howev-er. Food is distributed to families in Billerica who are in need of a little extra help. We thank you for your continued support.

The Pilot is an important voice in the public square that brings you the Catholic perspective on current events.

Inspired by the vision of our publisher, Cardinal Seán O’Malley, The Pilot covers it all — from in-depth reporting on Pope Francis to the good works of Boston parishes.

Each week, The Pilot brings you the stories of Boston Catholics who bring the Works of Mercy to life on a daily basis.

Proclaiming the present Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said he wants to make it evident that the Church’s mission is to be a witness of compassion. “Let us not forget that God forgives and God forgives always,” Pope Francis said. “Let us never tire of asking for forgiveness.”

We invite you to join the Pilot readership today for only $19.95. This limited-time offer saves you 49% off the regular subscription rate. Thank you for your support.
