Was August hot or what? I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m ready for fall to come with its cooler weather. It doesn’t look like the monsoons are going to pan out this year so it’s back to what is expected of Ar-izona, hot and dry. If you go out prospecting, please be careful using open flames, gas engines, or anything that will cause a spark. Also, keep an eye on the websites for any changes in fire restrictions from the National Forest and BLM. As everyone knows there are organizations, both private and government, that would like to shut down ALL types of prospecting or at the very lease put more restrictive limits on prospecting. Here are some major organizations that have opposed our plans of operations: The Center for Biological Diversity, Sierra Club, and the Arizona Mining Reform Coalition. Also among these is the Hopi Indian tribe. The Hopi’s reasoning is the sacred grounds might be disturbed! To my surprise, the Arizona Game and Fish even opposes the plan. The reason I’m telling you all this is to show you that we need to stay informed about what these organizations are doing. They are getting more and more politicians listening to them and they are trying to get the laws changed to eliminate prospecting. One law being introduced by Rep. LOST and FOUND: Anyone recognize this pillow? It was found at the August General meeting.

Email the club if this belongs to you or come down to the office Wednesday

from 9 am to 1 pm and pick it up!

The Quarter Ounce Nugget Raffle is in September!

Come to the general meeting on September 19th and see in person the Quarter Ounce Gold Nugget that will be given away to some lucky Roadrunner!! You can still buy tickets at the meeting for your chance to win this quarter ounce nugget shown in the picture! There will also be the regular monthly raffle of gold nuggets.

Arizona produced over 13 mil-lion ounces of gold between 1860 and 1965. While gold mining occurred in many districts during the second half of the 1800s, it was gold as a byprod-uct of the great copper mines devel-oped after 1900 that contributed signif-icantly to Arizona’s production num-bers.

Meet the RRPC Office Staff Laurel Wickersheim

Somehow Lonny found me and we connected like two magnets, polar opposites! I agreed to marry him if he would take me back to Hawaii for our honeymoon; we loved each other, too! He is the best friend anyone could have and still find our opposite directions work for us. My favorite career was always being a parent. I also worked at McDonalds briefly, at a resale shop, Dial Soap, U-Haul, then Maricopa County for 27 years. And then...Pete asked for help and I started working for the Club. It took me 10 years to get my Associates Degree in Accounting, then 23 more years to get my Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. I don’t recommend night schools; it takes too long! We have two boys and a daughter who are all wonderful and successful. And after 44 years of fun times we are the proud grandparents of three granddaughters, one owns a Wis-consin tavern, one runs a Wisconsin bar and grill, and one works in retail in Colorado Springs. We also have twin boys who are 18 and starting at UW-Green Bay next week, a granddaugh-ter 7 and grandson 4½ who are both attending Lookout Mountain Elementary in Phoenix. A new granddaughter is due in mid-January in Wisconsin and one great-grandson is growing up to be a farmer in Wisconsin. So, since they are all doing well, we joined the Roadrunners to find gold and have won lots

of raffle gold. We joined in September 2012 before I retired in July 2017. Now as lifetime

members we can prospect anytime we want. Mostly we can go out with great friends and en-

joy Arizona! When I answer the phone at the club office, I always end the call by saying –

good luck finding gold!

Laurel Wickersheim, Office Assistant

I was born in Sacramento on the day after Christmas and 4 minutes before my brother. Five years later we moved to Tujunga, just outside of Los Angeles. Then we again relocated to Kaneohe, then to Honolulu. After three years on the islands, my parents split up and we were relocated to Racine, Wis. My now single parent mother had the help of good people, especially her par-ents. We could only afford the upstairs of a tavern. It had plenty of dust and room, and was even furnished (I think from the 30’s). The tavern was built in 1907; it said so on the outside. I had three brothers, one 5 years older, one my age, and one five years younger. Our mom remarried and we moved in with a step-father and his two grandkids who were our age. I think it helped us a lot to watch shows like Eight is Enough and the Brady Bunch, and Gilligan’s Island helped, too! Finally, we graduated high school and I started college. After a solid year, I choose to find a job at a manufacturing plant doing the accounts receivable.

Be our Guest Speaker!!!

How would you like to earn a gold nugget and a pure silver Roadrunner round valued at $55? It is easy…...just be a speaker at one of our general meetings! Really, all you need is about 15 minutes of material and a 5 minute question and answer period. So who has a story to share or a bit of gold pro-specting advice? We are all easy to please and will not be bothered if you have a few pictures to share or words of advice. Metal detecting, high banking, dredging, or dry washer skills all make great presentations. Please submit your name and phone number to the club email address: [email protected]. Put in the de-scription: I want to be a speaker!

ceived at the office, a board member or office em-ployee will write your member number and name on each ticket you purchased, then place them in the raffle bucket. Announcing the New Buy Back Gold Program

Any member in good standing may add their name to a list of members willing to sell their gold back to the club at spot value. We

will only call members when the club needs to purchase gold. The club is only interested in

Arizona gold nuggets and the sizes we use. The club reserves the right to choose which nuggets they will purchase.

Club members should also bring a mini-mum of 7 nuggets to sell. The seller will need

to make an appointment with the Vice Presi-dent for a Wednesday during normal office

hours to process the sale. Each member will be required to complete the sales form below. This is a win-win for the club and members!

“I like the camaraderie of the meetings. I liked the

demonstration and learned a lot.”

I am writing just a short Steward of the Land article for the newsletter as I am having retinal eye surgery at the end of this month and my vision is rather limited until after that. For this month keep finding trash, taking apart fire rings, and filling in holes. As a member you can do numerous ones of these each month; there is no limit as to how many you can do. Just send each one into Pete separately. Each finding will be put on an individual ticket for the drawing. Be sure to put your member number and claim name on each one along with your name, of course. Julie and I need some serious competition.

Yes, I won it again. I would love to see some-one else get pulled for the drawing. My member-ship badge is 6573 and I collected the trash at Chuck’s Corner.
