EditoialAs I write this, today is the Sixth Anniversary of Leona Lewis winning theX Factor. She has a legacy of three brilliant albums Spirit, Echo & Glass-heart many great singles, countless television performances, a successfultour of the UK & Ireland back in 2010 with another in the UK & Germanynext year.

The real frustration is Bunnies calling ‘Why isn’t she up there with theWorld’s greatest singers’. Leona herself is to blame, due to her lovelyhumble personality, there is no doubt that Leona Lewis has ‘The Voice’and bags of talent, but what people love Leona for could be workingagainst her. In modern pop music its about feisty chicks with attitude andin your face ‘Girl Power’ where Leona is just the opposite, she is to niceand innocent. But when she does something she puts so much dedicationand love into it, so Bunnies, don’t blame Simon Cowell, Syco, Modest! OrSony Music. Its Leona, she still is that humble girl that doesn’t believehow great she is just like on the X Factor, just six years older.

Here’s to many more years of Leona Lewis!

Issue 7 here at last! It’s been a year since the last publication ofBleeding Lovely Magazine this due to most ofthe Publishing Bunnies going through lifechanging events, such as leaving school andgoing on to college or starting a new Universityor careers and having to deal with the worst re-cession since ‘The Great Depression’ of 1930’s.But the good news is there is no recession onthe Leona Lewis front, with a brilliant new albumcalled Glassheart in most of your hands, TV &Radio appearences and a visit to Hopefield, onthe 2nd December. It’s quite an exciting time tobe a Bunny wouldn’t you agree?

Glassheart Delay Again!Earlier on this year it was announced on a cou-ple of websites the Leona Lewis' third albumGlassheart has been postponed from the 26thMarch to the 26th November. It was broughtforward to the 15th October in the UK.. Whatlittle news has indicated that Leona was nothappy with the album and she wanted to domore work it. This has caused a lot of frustrationamongst her Bunnies.

Easter Bunnies in EssexAn Easter Treat For Bunnies To Rabbit AboutOn Easter Sunday, 8th April. There was anamazing Easter Treat for Bunnies that didn’tinvolve chocolate or eggs. No! Leona made anappearance at Hopefield’s Easter Funday. Shemet and greeted her many fans, Leona evengave Bunnies a chance to be photographed withher.

Hackney Festival UpdateLeona Lewis performed as the first act on Satur-day (23rd June) at the Hackney Big Weekend. An annual event put on by BBC Radio1 (a UKbased radio station). This year’s one was a veryspecial one due to the Olympic Games openingjust over a month later in that area of London.

Leona’s In Trouble! »

News broke of an immanent single release byLeona in September, called ‘Trouble’ It hit thestores & download sites on the 7th October and‘Glassheart’ got released the following week on15th October. As you agree the wait was worthit!

Glassheart Album SigningOn Monday the 15th October Leona was out &about at HMV in Oxford Street, London signingcopies of her album Glassheart for her fans (theBunnies). The CD was released in three formatsthat day, the standard CD, the Delux copy and aspecial HMV CD with a cardboard slip case.

Hopefield Christmas EventOn the 2nd December Christmas came early forsome Bunnies as Leona returned to Hopefieldand performed, fellow X Factor Winner MattCardell was performing. Full story in the nextissue.

Leona to Tour 2013After the long awaited release of Glassheart Le-ona has announced that she is going to tour inApril and May 2013. So far this has been for UK& Germany dates, there has been no mention ofoverseas dates in other countries but this couldchange (fingers crossed!).

Bunnies Un-happy About PublicityIn the last couple of months Leona has beendoing a lot of appearences on TV and radio inthe UK but very little publicity has been madeabout it. On the BBC Children In Need websitethere are links to all the artistes performancesexcept Leona Lewis’ performances. Not havingLeona’s private life plastered all over the tab-loids is great but not publicising her new releas-es or TV/Radio appearences is crimenal. Eventhe Beatles get the song and dance like an newiPhone about re-issues 50 years after release.Myself personally, I am getting most of my infofrom you The Bunnies!

By John MessenbirdIt was Easter Sunday (8th April 2012). I was up early that morningon the computer trying to locate a farm in Essex, but not anordinary farm, this farm was a special place. Hopefield was aspecial place that Leona holds dear to her heart. They had theirEaster Fair on that day, with many a Bunny hopeful of anappearance by Leona Lewis. It had all started on the night beforewhilst on Facebook & Twitter, the Bunnies were all discussingwhether Leona would show up at the Easter Fair, so many wereconvinced that there would be a show of our Bunny Princess.Someone, I can't remember who it was, posted Nicola Carsonwould be at Hopefield, we ere all certain that Leona would go. Ithought time for an early night to rise early. After a long journey across London, I arrived a Newbury Park Ihad to catch another bus for the last leg of the journey and uponboarding the bus I met two other Bunnies, Aidan & Iona let mefollow them to Hopefield. Whilst talking to them on the bus toBrentwood. I said 'It look like we were going to see the Beatles, not Leona Lewis' as the bus driver got lost. The bus was on the aMagical Mystery Tour. We eventually arrived at Hopefield aftergetting off the bus then walking for half an hour.We approached by walking down a long lane then paid to get in,a few minutes later we were greeted by couple of Bunnies whohanded us programmes for the event. After a couple of hoursmeeting and greeting the animals to the sound of Happy Hour aband who sang hits from the 70's to the present. Two Shoes anact from the 2011 X Factor season had been mingling with theirfans plus children's entertainment in thetent behind me. I had decided to have a cup of tea, then Leonaarrived. I was trying to do a balancing act with a cup of tea, amobile (cellphone) and a camera. Leona looked amazing. Shehad a small entourage but this quickly swelled as Bunnies and thegeneral public were allowed to join the entourage. Myself in aband of Bunnies following Leona. The paparazzi had their camer-as focused on the beautiful Leona but it was a relaxed and goodnatured. The professionals were then taking photos of Leona and

proud parents pushing their young children in shot to have thenphotographed with Leona. As things got busy with Leona and the paparazzi. I decided tohave another look around the sanctuary and meet some more ofthe animals. Upon leaving the stables a horse nudged me toprevent me leaving, that's how friendly the animals are theredespite the bad treatment some of them had received in thepass.Hopefield had a big raffle at end of the afternoon, Aidan hadpreviously told me that I would have a better chance to meetLeona when most of the crowds had gone, and it paid off, theywere doing the last photo shoots with Leona & the professionalphotographers. Leona suddenly came out near me and I askedif I could have a photo with Leona Nicola Leona's manager saidyes its OK. I trusted Aidan with my camera, he looked like a manwho knew his stuff with the pro camera and big lens hangingaround his neck (See photo above!). Leona was really nice andrelaxed about it and she was very much enjoying the event. Youcould see it wasn’t work for her, she has a real passion for theanimals including her Bunnies. As she walked away you couldhere The Proclaimers singing in the background, I said 'I WouldWalk 500 Miles to see Leona' she over heard and thanked me inthe lovely charming voice she has.It was now time to leave and in the narrow lane that leads out ofthe farm we met up with Leona again had a chat and joked withher. As we left we caught up with a couple of more Bunnies atthe bus stop. When I arrived home I found I had a photo of one of the Bunnieswith Leona so emailed it to her (the Bunny, not Leona that was.).The following day was a bit of an anti-climax, I the same as theday after the Labyrinth Tour. I don't drink or smoke, Leona is mydrug, I get a high when I see her then its withdrawal symptomsthe next day.

Hopefield is a place that saves animals. Abusedponies, staving cows, battered hens and ne-glected rabbits are amongst the manyanimals that arrive near the stateof death with the sadness ofappalling injuries. Hope-field welcomes themwithout question, theytry to save any ani-mal.

During the winterof 1983 when amajor news sto-ry had brokenthat highlightedthe plight of theneglected po-nies, many haddied but theones that hadsurvived wererescued and thislead to the start ofHopefield. PaulaClark a doctor's recep-tionist, who had spenther time raising funds forvarious other animal sanctuar-ies, decided something have had tobe done. She had enlisted the help of her hus-band Ernie, they secured the ponies future byraising enough money to buy the ponies andpay various sanctuaries to house and look afterthem.

Paula and Ernie decided not to stop at thisstage so they would take it a stage further andopen their own animal rescue centre, and Hope-

field was born! In nearly 30 years the Clarks notonly gave up their day jobs to dedicate their

lives to animals and their well being.Paula & Ernie even received rec-

ognition from those in highplaces, when the Queen

awarded them a MBE(Member of British

Empire) honour fortheir services toanimal welfare.

Sadly on the19th September2009 Paula hadpassed awayfrom cancer,Ernie still car-ried on withHopefield withthe help of Li-

anne and othervolunteers. Leona

Lewis had got tomeet them and de-

cided to take Hopefieldunder her wings when

she became a trustee andpatron, this was just a natural

move for Leona due to her love ofanimals.

Ernie had promised Paula to continue with thework until his death from cancer on 11th Sep-tember 2011. The legacy is still the welfare ofhundreds of animals whose lives had improvedafter Hopefield had taken out of a life of miseryand abuse. Leona and a dedicated band of vol-unteers carries on the legacy.

"I'vealways loved animals

and felt a kinship with themever since I was a child. I love loyal,

trusting and comforting they can be. Igrew up with dogs and been around horses

since I was young, which I have a real pas-sion for. I can't count the amount of times I'vefelt upset or sad and come home and curledup with my dog on the sofa or gone ridingwith my horse to cheer me up. Their com-

panionship is incomparable."

What Does Leona Lewis Means to Me!John MessenbirdLeona Lewis is our Singing Princess, who’s as cute as a baby bunny, she sings like an angel fromheaven. I then dream because Leona Lewis is better than perfection. She has all Bunnies hoppingand dreaming. When we see Leona Lewis, its bright eyes, upright ears and twitching fluffy tails.

Leona As X Factor JudgeBack in October Leona got to sit on the otherside of the Judge's table on the UK version of XFactor the very show that brought Leona to ourattention. At the time they had various celebritiesstanding in as Guest Judges and Leona got thechance to do the honours and experience thecompetition from the other-side of the table.

Six Years of Leona LewisTalking about the X Factor, it is six years agotoday*, that Leona Lewis won the UK Factor. She was the first ever female contestant to winthe UK show. ‘The night I met Leona Lewis!’By John Messenbird

On Monday the 15th October (the day of release) at6pm (UK time), Leona Lewis was down the HMV storein London’s Oxford Street. She was there for the signingof her new album Glassheart. Leona greeted fans wear-ing a 1950’s style black prom knee length dress withwhite squiggle design and black mesh material coveringher shoulders and upper arms, a red belt with bow effectand black stiletto shoes. Leona was sporting goldenblonde hair bunched up to a couple centimetres whichgave way to a cascading long ponytail.

Leona was so happy she wanted to be there just asmuch as her fans, to her, this was not just part of her jobbut truly something that she loves to do for her fans, theBunnies! And of course this was a special event for heradmirers. The nervous anticipation with CDs clutched inhands awaiting the beautiful cursive handwriting of Leo-na Lewis to leave happiness on many album covers andhave brought smiles to many a Bunny. The sounds ofGlassheart being the soundtrack to the evening justadded to the already amazing and exciting event. If you were there! This would be a great story to tellfuture generations of Bunnies about, with a tear ofhappiness in your eye you would say ‘The night I metLeona Lewis! …….’

Enduring LeonaBy John Messenbird

We are now approaching the stage when six years agoa shy young & beautiful lady from Hackney wascrowned X-Factor Winner 2006. A Princess from EastLondon who’s dream came true.

Leona has gone beyond the stage winning new fans byhaving chart success. Many musicians from the 60's to80's still sell albums and perform at live shows on stage& TV. They see no current chart positions but still sellbecause of their loyal fan base. Has Leona reached thisstage?

Say if Lady GaGa had a number one for two weeksselling an average of 10,000 per week that would equal

20,000 but Leona didn't chart by selling only 1,000 butfor a 100 weeks. No chart position for Leona Lewis butstill 100,000 this still outsells Lady GaGa five timesover*. Artistes like Paul McCartney, Sting & U2 sellalbums in huge quantities over time but we never seeany Singles# chart entries or Brit Awards nominationsfor them. The landscape for the singles chart haschanged a lot since the late 70's when you would get '2Million sellers' like 'Mull of Kintyre' by Paul McCartney &Wings, now they talk of sales only in tens of thousands.

This does just highlight that you can't judge an artist onthe quantity of sales, all that means is they got a goodmarketing team behind them. Leona Lewis is a trueartist, she does with her voice & a microphone whatMichelangelo did with paint & a brush, the ceiling of LaChappella Sistina (Sistine Chapel) took 4 years to com-plete from 1508 to 1512. It is now recognised that it hadLeona who is delay the album till now due to her beinga perfectionist, she could release her album now, shehas recorded enough material but she doesn't think it'sgood enough for her fans, 'The Bunnies'. Let's not kidourselves Leona has a huge creative input into heralbums and it is not just Syco & Sony Music that callsthe shots. The downside is we have to keep waiting forLeona and the upside is when she delivers she deliversperfection, not just a couple of classics in an album offorgettable hits.

On many forums, Facebook & Twitter the fans aregetting very vocal about the constant delays of 'GlassHeart' and understandable to! But us Bunnies have tounderstand that Leona is more active in the productionof this album. Many of today's artists are just vocalistsand many of them are very good at it. But Leona writessongs and is very involved in the production of thealbum. We should not be blaming Syco, Sony Music orModest! Management as the only thing they have doneis bring one amazing artist into our lives. This is whatLeona Lewis is about, she takes her time and createspure magic and excitement. So Bunnies don't worryabout the third album, the wait just gives you time toenjoy 'Spirit' and 'Echo' more. It's because she is sotalented that the wait frustrates us, but spare a thoughtfor poor ole Leona as she must be frustrated in thinkingthat she has to do better than a 110%. The Music Bunnywill never let her Bunnies down.

When Leona first got up and sang it was her dream toperform and make people happy, she had to pushthrough many set backs and wait till she was 21 year oldto get her big break on the X Factor so a couple of yearsin between albums is not much to ask of a Bunny.

*This example is to purely demonstrate the maths in-volve with single sales, and is not to belittle Lady GaGa.I just picked a random popstar to highlight the mathsinvolve.

#Here in the UK singles are now only available asdownloads, this is probably the case in other countries.CDs just contain full albums now and even these mayjust downloads in a couple of years time.
