News from 3 rd Grade October 16, 2018 Reading We continue on with nonfiction as students explore functional texts. This includes recipes, invitations, flyers, How-to, brochures etc. Students will be answering and asking questions on these functional texts. Review flyers that come in the mail with your kids. See if they can ask and answer specific questions off real examples. Writing In the coming weeks, we will keep focusing on making complete sentences in our writing. We will also take a look at verbs and how we can use them in our writing. Understanding the difference between regular and irregular verbs is helpful, especially when writing about the past. Keep using those capital letters and punctuation for every sentence! Math We've finished with our place value unit, but we'll continue to circle back to it throughout the year. Please continue to review this content with your child at home. Next, we'll move into estimating and solving problems with addition and subtraction. We'll also be solving single and multi-step word problems. Science In science students will be exploring animal relationships and ecosystems. Students will be learning about herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, decomposers and producers and how they combine to make food chains. We will be discussing a variety of aquatic and terrestrial habitats and how different populations and communities depend on each other to maintain a healthy ecosystem. What are we studying?
