BLOOD RELATIONS

Definition:

A person who is related to another by birth rather than by marriage.

Module objective:

Blood relations of a group of persons are given in jumbled form. In these tests, thesuccess of a candidate depends upon knowledge of the Blood Relations, some of which aresummarized below. The questions which are asked in this section depend upon Relation.

Prerequisites:

To remember easily the relations may be divided into two sides as given below:

1. Relations of Paternal side:

b) My mother’s or father’s daughter is my Sister.

c) My mother’s or father’s father is my Grandfather.

d) My mother’s or father’s sister is my Aunt.

e) My mother’s or father’s brother is my Uncle.

f) My son’s wife is my daughter-in-law.

g) My daughter’s husband is my Son-in-law.

h) My brother’s son is my Nephew.

i) My brother’s daughter is my Neice.

j) My sister’s husband is my brother-in-law.

k) My brother’s wife is my Sister-in-law.

l) My husband’s wifer’s sister is my Sister-in-law.

m) My busbank’s or Wife’s brother is my Brother-in-law.

n) My uncle’s or aunt’s son or daughter is my Cousin.

o) My wife’s father or husband’s father is my Father-in-law.

p) My wife’s mother or husband’s motherr is my Mother-in-law.

q) My fahter’s wife is my Mother.

r) My mother’s husband is my Father.

s) My son’s or daughter’s son is my Grandson.

t) My son’s or daughter’s daughter is my Granddaughter.

In these type of questions, a round about description is given in the form of certain smallrelationships and direct relationships between the persons concerned is to be deciphered.

Solution: (D)

Q x R = Q is the mother of R [-Q, ±R]

R $ P = R is the brother of P [+ R, ±P]

P $ N = P is the brother of N [+ P, ±N]

Therefore P is the son of Q.

Type 2:

2.A has 3 children. B is the brother of C and C is the sister of D, E who is the wife of A is themother of D. There is only one daughter of the husband of E. what is the relation between D andB?

Solution: With the chart

Therefore, D is a boy because there is only one daughter of E.Hence; B is the brother of D.

3. Pointing to a photograph, Rekha says to Lalli, "The girl in the photo is the second daughter ofthe wife of only son of the grandmother of my younger sister." How this girl of photograph isrelated to Rekha?

Solution: First Method -

1. Grandmother of younger sister of Rekha → Grandmother of Rekha2. Wife of only son of grandmother → Mother of Rekha3. Younger daughter of the mother → Younger sister.
