Won’t my child be home sick? Won’t I miss my child too much?

PREP 9 parents have frequent opportunities to visit their children on campus and they stay in very close touch with them via phone, Skype, texting, and Facebook. Students are home on vacation almost monthly. Our partner boarding schools are on average less than a three-hour drive from New York. Our counselors visit each campus three times a year.

Do PREP 9 students fit in at their boarding schools?

PREP 9 students LOVE their boarding schools and fit right in. Every year, our students serve as student body presidents, team captains, club leaders, and dorm proctors. At our partner boarding schools, 36% of the students are people of color. Boarding schools today are eager to attract students from ALL backgrounds.

Couldn’t my child just go to one of the public specialized high schools or a charter school?

PREP 9’s boarding schools are among the most rigorous, diverse, and resource-rich schools in the country, if not the world. They prepare students to excel at the best colleges in the country and in leadership roles beyond. Additionally, Prep offers its students an array of opportunities outside the classroom that are unmatched.

How will we pay for boarding school?

Every year, our students receive $25 million in financial aid from their schools; on average, PREP 9 families pay about $750 in yearly tuition. The average PREP 9 student receives nearly $200,000 in scholarships for boarding school.

4 During the summer, Prep offers incredible opportunities to its students at no cost. World travel to France, Ghana, and Japan. Summer jobs with employers like Chase, ESPN, Google, New York Hospital, the NY Mets, Time Warner, and the White House. College trips and SAT preparation. Field trips to Broadway shows, Yankees games, and museums.

Why apply to PREP 9?

1 The boarding schools that PREP 9 students attend are among the best schools in the country, if not the world. They feature motivated students, small rigorous classes, dedicated teachers, state-of-the-art facilities, and beautiful campuses. All Prep students receive scholarships that meet their families’ full financial need.

2 More of our students have earned degrees from Harvard than any other institution. We send more of our students to Ivy League colleges than any other program of our kind — over 1,000 so far!
