strong feelings about the benefits of

    living in thismost spectacular place.

In our line of work we naturally get

    tomeetpeople eithermoving into the

area, out of the area, or elsewhere in

    the area.

    Ivewatchedwithinterestwhatfac-

tors play a role when families decide

    where tomaketheirhome.Whats in-

teresting to note is that the motivat-

    ing factors havent changed much

    over the years.

People buy and sell for a number

of reasons but the focus of this arti-

cle is about what influences where

they make their home, not so much

the size or requirements of their

    home.

    Arecentsurveyhasconfirmedthat

    the strongestmotivating factor is the

    lifestyle for their family. Residents

    sitethingssuchasthemountains, the

    vineyards, the beaches the natural

    beautyofthearea.Butitsmoreabout

    the spiritual and emotional impact

these surroundings have on us all.

    Thinkof thecalmingeffect ofwalk-

ing along the Strand beach, or stroll-

ing through the nature reserve, or

Radloff Park. The sound of your kids

laughing as they ride their bikes, or

run with their dogs. Picture the

sound of clinking glasses as you sit

    aroundatableinthegloriousautumn

sunshine at a wine farm with your

    friend.

Is there a price we can put on life-

style? Is there a value we can place

on raising our kids in an environ-

ment that allows them to enjoy life

    and the natural surroundings?

    Icantellyoufromfirsthandexperi-

ence that people from further north

just love the lifestyle we have. They

may jokeabout service levels and the

slow pace in Cape Town but most

would gladly make the move if they

    could.

Even those that move away, per-

haps even overseas, do so with a

heavy heart. They may be following

    employmentopportunities,orbecon-

    cerned with the oppor-

    tunities for their chil-

    dren in the future but

    no one can argue that

    our lifestyle isnt abso-

    lutely brilliant!

    So why discuss this?

    Becauseall toooftenwe

    can get swept up with

    the stresses of life that

    we lose sight of whats

    around us. Even clients

    from beautiful places

    overseas comment on our lifestyle

    and how special it is.

Its important not to forget though,

that none of this would mean any-

thing at all if it wasnt for the people

    that live here. People

    build communities. Fam-

    ilies build communities.

    And everyone makes a

    difference.

    What does this have to

    do with property? Every-

    thing.Whenother people

    see our lifestyle they de-

sire it. And to enjoy it,

    they need to live here.

    Strongdemandanddwin-

    dling supply means prop-

erty values increase. Which is good

    news for all property owners.

But take time to enjoy what we

    have. Its really special.Andwere all

    part of it.

    StrandNorth homes in demand

The suburb of Strand North is seeing strong

demand from family buyers, coupled with a

rise in property values over the last few

months due to a shortage of property in the

    market.

StrandNorth is an established suburb that

reachedmaturity long ago, with basically no

land available for further development. A

shortage of homes on the market below

R1,4 million, has created a situation where

    somepropertyover the last threemonthshas

literally soldwithin a day of coming onto the

market, says BenhardWiese of Cape Coastal

    Homes (CCH).

    CCHresidentagentIlseBothasaysoverthe

course of 2012, 96 own title properties

changed hands in Strand North, at an aver-

age price of R1,148 million each. That sales

    volumefigurerosequitesubstantially in2013

to 127 properties sold, at an average price of

R1,179 million (source - Lightstone). The

apartment sales, predominantly on the sec-

tion of StrandBeachRoad adjacent to Strand

North, rose from 65 sales (average price

    R1,188 million) in 2012 to 119 during 2013 at

an average price of R1,092 million.

    Duringthe firstquarterof2014,only19own

title registrations took place at an average

    priceofR1,273millionconfirmingtheshort-

age of properties available and pointing al-

ready to an average price increase of 8% in

    the suburb for 2014.

Residents of Strand North have the best of

both worlds - a relatively small suburb with

a town-like feel next to the sea with city-like

amenities and lifestyle offerings such as top

wine estates all within a radius of 10 km.

This luxury three-bedroom townhouse in a secure estate in Strand North (very close to the

beach) has an open-plan kitchen with granite top and cherry wood cabinets, and lounge with

a fireplace. It has a small private bricked patio area. It is selling for R1,75 million

    Renault Sandero Stepway now

    on dealer showroom floors na-

    tionwide.

Since its launch early in 2011, the

    first generation Sandero Stepway

    has successfully blazed a red-hot

    trail significantly popularising the

    crossover concept in South Africa.

Designed to cope with a wide

range of driving conditions, it has

    conqueredmanyclientsheartswho

have been thrilled by its versatility

    andpracticalityandalsoitscooland

attractive look. As a single deriva-

    tive, the Sandero Stepway has

reached over 3 000 sales per annum

since 2012 placing it among the Top

    10most soldversionson theSAmar-

    ket.

Its now 2014 and the game is on,

    with the all-new Sandero Stepway

    representing a gigantic leap for-

    ward.

    The most obvious differentia-

tion is the typical Renault design

treatment, inside and out, which fo-

cuses on style, refinement and per-

    ceived quality, says Fabien

    Payzan, vice-president of market-

    ing and communications at Renault

SA. But the new model also im-

    presses from an engineering per-

spective with the adoption of the

cutting-edge 66 kW turbo petrol en-

gine which it shares with Clio, an

    impressive array of smart technolo-

gies as well as best-in-class safety

    features, all offered as standard.

Over the last 12 months Renault

    SouthAfricahas growndramatical-

    ly, following the introduction of

    three very successful new models

    Clio, Duster and New Sandero

    each recognised for their overall

    product appeal, technical excel-

    lenceandoutstandingaffordability.

    While New Sandero Stepway

    comes with the most progressive

features as standard, weve kept the

    price surprisingly reasonable,

    says Niall Lynch, managing direc-

tor at Renault SA. This demon-

strates that we are determined to

continue to drive the change in the

carmarket and clearly, the very de-

    manding South African customer

    base really appreciates that.

    Young, cool, vibrant, funkyyet re-

    fined, the New Sandero Stepway

    takes Renaults new design identity

to the next level. Its upsized dia-

    mond-shaped badge suspended

within the black front grille works

well with the cars crossover DNA:

    raised ground clearance (193 mm),

16 wheels, front and rear silver

skid plates, fog lamps with chrome

    surroundings,wheelarchtrimsand

    roof rails with silver treatment.

Inside the cabin, thequality of the

materials used is tangible. To opti-

    mise driving pleasure, the dash-

    board features a sophisticated clus-

    ter with chrome detailing around

the dials and boasts an array of

    techno-smart yet practical instru-

    mentation.

    A classy leather-clad steering

wheel and gear lever knob add that

extra look and feel of quality and re-

finement, while the front seats fab-

    ric includes a distinctive Stepway

    signature.

    Generously proportioned interi-

    or and above-class average floor-to-

    roofclearance frontandbackmakes

    for comfortable and roomy seating

    for five occupants plus luggage

    while best-in-class boot capacity

(292 litres) can be further improved

upon thanks to its 60/40 split rear

    bench.

    New Sandero Stepway is availa-

    ble in exclusive Azurite Bluewhich

    underscores its young and energet-

    ic personality which is amongst

    four other colours.

    The new generation three-cylin-

der Turbo 66 kW power plant fitted

    in New Sandero Stepway (and

    sharedwithClio), is highly efficient

    thankstoits100%aluminiumblock,

    low inertia turboandvariablevalve

    timing (VVT).

    It alsobenefits fromahostof inno-

    vative solutions transferred from

    Formula 1 such as Diamond-Like

    carbon coatings (high tech surface

    treatment for engine components

    ensuring friction reduction) and

    High Tumble Strategy (optimisa-

    tion of engine internal aerodynam-

    ics allowing better combustion).

With the Turbo 66 kW engine un-

der its bonnet, the all-new Sandero

Stepway reaches a top speed of

175 km/h accelerating from zero to

    100 km/h in only 11.1 seconds. The

    spritely personality of the Turbo

    66 kWengineexudes fromits engag-

ing sound aswell as its best-in-class

    responsiveness in all conditions,

thanks to its steady low-end torque

    which reaches a maximum of

    135 Nm from 2 500 rpm, 90% of

which is available from 2 000 rpm.

    This is particularly evident at

    theReef,where the turboalmost off-

sets the negative effect on the per-

    formance generated by the alti-

    tude, explainsWayne van derMer-

    we, senior product manager at

    Renault SA.

With the fitment of this cutting-

edge Turbo 66 kW, New Sandero

    Stepway outperforms the previous

    generation model, which was fitted

with a 1.6 naturally aspired engine,

that offered lower power (64 kW)

and lower torque level (128 Nm), al-

    soreachedathigherrevs (3000rpm).

It performs far better and is sig-

nificantly lighter on fuel with an al-

most 2 F/100 km saving, he adds.

    Indeed, Renaults all-new Sandero

Stepway Turbo 66 kW boasts an im-

pressive fuel consumption of 5.4 li-

    tres/100km (combined cycleNEDC)

while emitting only 124 g CO

    The New Sandero Stepway deriv-

    ative comes standard with Re-

    naults industry-leading five-

    year/150 000 km warranty plus a

    two-year/30 000km service plan

    (service intervals: 15 000 km).

    Recommended price (Inclusive of

warranty and service plan) of New

Sandero Stepway Turbo 66 kW 5-

    door is R159 900.

The new generation three-cylinder Turbo 66 kW power plant fitted in New

ouer motoriste aanklank vind by wie gemak

    synaamopdie renbaangemaakhet; dieDZire

1.2-handrat versnel in 12,6 sekondes van 0 tot

100 km/h en laat die naald draai by 160 km/h.

    Brandstofverbruik word deur die vervaardi-

ger aangegee as 5,7 liter/100 km in die gekom-

    bineerde siklus en die CO

    2

    -uitlaatgasvlakke

as 134 g/km.

versigtig gery is.

Swift is nie net kosmeties nie; daar is n nuwe

    jaar.

    Saammetdie luikrugisookdienuwesedan-

weergawe, Dzire, aan die pers bekendgestel.

    Laasgenoemde gebruik dieselfde onderstel as

die bekende luikrugmodel maar bied die by-

    komende voordeel van tradisionele kattebak

wat aansienlik meer ruimte vir bagasie skep

    en, interessant,ookvirdieagterstepassasiers

    meer ruimte bied.

    DieDzireword in tweeafwerkingvlakkege-

    diebinneafwerkingbetref,kontrasterendtus-

maak ishoehy ry, ennatuurlik ookdie ekstra

bakspasie van 300 F. Prakties! So ook die ef-

fens hor grondvryheid waarmee ook grond-

paaie sonder vrees en bewing aangepak kan

    word.

handratmodel verkoop teen R138 900.My per-

soonlike keuse? Die Dzire outomaties met sy

    ekstra pakplek.

By hierdie pryse is n tweejaar/60 000 km

    diensplan ingesluit asook n fabriekswaar-

borg van drie jaar/100 000 km asook padby-

standsdiens van drie jaar met onbeperkte af-

Die afgelope naweek was vir To-

    gesteel deur hul Malelane Toyo-

    waarmee Taylor die algehele

    kampioenskap verlede jaar ge-

wenhet in die tweede plek alge-

heel oor die wenstreep te stuur.

    Ons het nie eintlik dieselfde

spoed as Anthony en Dennis gehad

nie, het n opgewonde Johan Horn

    ndie renges. Onshet dusbesluit

om net ons lyne skoon te hou en on-

    geskonde as naaswenners uit die

    stryd te tree.

Taylor en Murphy is met di ver-

    Die Toyota Hilux-trein is ont-

Die oorsaak is nog nie bepaal nie,

moes uiteindelik halt roep. Dit was

die eerste ren in die 2014-Donald-

    HyundaiAccenthatchback: thenewreason

    HANJO STIER

By now, Hyundais success story is well

    documented and the Korean manufac-

turer has carefully crafted its tracks in

the local motor industry. With over

50 000 units sold last year, Hyundais

S.A. division ranks 13th worldwide and

has helped the global brand from 6th to

    5th position for car makers.

Keen to increase their footprint on local

soil even more, Hyundai just launched an

Accent hatchback to slot between the suc-

    cessful i20 and i30 models.

Previously only available as a small se-

dan, the new sloping-back Accent retains

    its donors 2 570 mm wheelbase, 1,7 m

width and 1 457 mm height.

The sedans 389F boot is almost matched

by the hatchbacks 370F and most journal-

ists at the cars recent launch noted that

its exterior styling is agreeable with a hint

    of i30 at the back.

The front and most of its sides are exact

duplicates of the sedan, while a small roof

spoiler accents this newcomer. (See what

    I did there?)

    Hyundais Fluidic Sculpture design

language is also strongwith this one, a hex-

agonal grill and snazzy fog lights define its

front end, followed by stylish creases down

the sides which neatly integrate into the

rear bumper and lights. The steeply rising

window line merges beautifully with a

    small rear windscreen.

Rear visibility is very limited but Hy-

undai thankfully provides rear park assist

as standard.Other standard features are 16-

inch alloy wheels, remote central locking,

    immobilizer, air-con, power steering, pow-

er windows and mirrors, super vision in-

strument cluster with trip computer, six

    airbagsand fourdiscABSbrakeswithEBD.

    The adjustable multi-function steering

wheel has buttons for most functions of the

six-speaker sound system with radio, CD,

USB, ipod, Aux, USB and Bluetooth inputs.

Up to five adults will find decent space in

stylish cloth seats and most Hyundai deal-

ers will be happy to sell you some cuts of

    leather for about R8 000.

The cabin layout is modern and stylish

with shiny trim pieces and blue screens off-

    setting the black surfaces.

All materials have a quality feel and in-

    teresting textures while everything feels

sturdy and well put together on our long

launch route we didnt hear any squeaks

or rattles from our chosen Accent hatch-

    back.

    Power comes from a 1,6-litre in-line four

cylinder petrol engine with a choice of six-

    speed manual or four-speed automatic

gearbox. Peak power outputs are 91 kW

    (124 hp) or 156 Nm, resulting in a 0-100 km/

h sprint of 10,2 seconds (11,4 for automatic).

    Top speeds are 190 and 184 km/h.

Average fuel consumption is 6,4 or

    6,8F/100km and CO

    2

    emissions just 152 or

    161 g/km.AllAccent hatchbackshave a 43F

petrol tank, 5,2 m turning radius, full size

spare wheel, and a suspension made up of

McPherson struts up front and a coupled

    torsion beam at the back.

    Our overall impression from various

routes at the cars launchwas very satisfac-

tory. Steering and pedal feel is light and

easy, as is the operation of that six-speed

gearbox. Although most cars only had de-

livery mileage showing, we found the 1 600

engine to be willing and smooth at all but

    very high speeds.

Prices are R234 900 for the manual and

R10 000 more for an automatic. Its availa-

ble in one of seven colours and comes with

    Hyundais 5-year/150 000 kmwarranty and

5-year/90 000 km service plan. And by slot-

ting in between two other popular Hyundai

hatches, it gives you another reason to con-

    sider this brand.
