Every year 90.1 kpft has a spring benefit to raise money for the studio. The show on Tuesday nite’s called late nite snax decided to take it a step further. Late nite snax is a hip-hop radio show that is commericial free. They play independent hip-hop and classic hip-hop music. The benefit was to raise money for 90.1 but also, to push them having a two-hour show. The mc’s and dj’s were on fire, the crowd was hype, and they raised a good amount of money. Thanks to everyone who came out and showed their support!!!

(3) Explain "The Bench" "THE BENCH" is HIPHOP to the fullest...... we try to touch all aspects of the CULTURE THAT IS HIPHOP!!! So we (COMP1 and I) to do alot from DJ guest spots to EMCEES doing their thing to ART SHOWCASE'S to B-BOYS/B-GIRLS dancing, it's all encuraged...so long as it's apart of the culture(underground preferably...come on ya gott' love the underdog!!)

S.A.V. the Boy-Build and Destroy! This man right here is Houston, TX hip-hop he has style, flow, and the ability to move the crowd into cardiac arrest. So if you haven’t had a chance to hear Savvi, then you haven’t heard Houston hip-hop. (1)What is your full name? Jaimel Fowler

(2)How many alias names do you have and what are they? Three. S-A Dub V-I, Stylez Davis, and S.A.V. Da' Boi...

Page 25: Boy-Cott Issue # 7

(3)How many extra members of savvi are there and why did you choose them? Savvi has no extra members in the physical sense, but Savvi has dimensions and personalities that are expressed through music.

(4)Do you think soul food is the key to "da

butt"

You're a funny dude. If i knew the answer to that, i'd probably be a millionaire right now.

Page 26: Boy-Cott Issue # 7

(5) What's your take on the houston hip hop scene? I see HUEston's hip hop scene as a sleeping giant waiting to be awakened. Industry eyes are kind of on the city now and that's likely a sign of good things to come. In my opinion, HUEston is lacking the infrastructure for arts and entertainment in general, but at the same time, that can be seen as an oppurtunity for any driven individuals to create that infrastructure.

(6) Who are some up and coming mc's or dj's that you like? Too many... Umm, Equality "The MC's Poet", Snap [Niyat], The Realness, S.M.U.G.G.L.A.Z., Saga, V-Zilla, Brew & Panama Black [Dark Sunz], B-Boy, D'ology, Thaione Davis [Chicago], Zin, Studemont Project, Meridian, Lower Life Form, DJ Soul One, DJ Comp One, DJ Joe B [Rebel Crew], Mr. E., Boscoe 34, Truth Universal, Nabi Bastep, Spark Plug, Maxamillion... That's all i can think of right now...

(7) How would describe your style? The easiest way I can explain it is, I take my appreciation of classic or nastalgic eras from the past, then add a futuristic element that's accessible in the present. Basicially I try to bridge generational, style and substance gaps in all forms of soul music using hip hop as the medium.

Page 27: Boy-Cott Issue # 7

(8) What's your take on commercial hip-hop? Commercialism in general is good and bad. To me, it's about how it's utulized. Like with anything, the more balanced it is, the better it is. Right now, from a commercial aspect, hip hop is unbalanced, but the law of cycles says it shall swing at some point and time. It's a necesarry evil. Without commercialism, hip hop music could be extinct to this day. Could you imagine that?

(9) Would you ever consider going commercial? I'd be lying if I told you that I wouldn't want to

have my music commercially exposed. I feel that I

make music for the people, and if that's how more

people would be given the opportunity to be exposed to

my music, then I can dig that. Honestly, I can only

make music that I feel, because it is a part of me. I

don't know how to create based on how others feel

because I write strictly from my perspective and I

gotta look in the mirror at the end of the day. Bottom

line, Hip Hop and the babies deserve the most genuine

music I can give them. To make honest and thought

provoking hip hop music more commercially acceptible

Page 28: Boy-Cott Issue # 7

is one of my primary objectives as an artist and

business man. See "No Compromise" from the HUEston

Chronicles FixTape for further explanation.

(10) Who would you like to thank? The creator, my Mom, Dad and whole family, Equality [my partner in rhyme], Jason "Chuck" Woods of Picture Window Photography, producers Qenetic Storm and Dizrokwel, KPFT 90.1 "Late Nite Snax" crew and the "Damage Control" show, Patrick Davis of Black Cotton Works, all the real life ducumentarians and anyone who has copped the "Hueston Chronicles" fixtape, came to my shows, or supported Peace Uv Mine Entertainment in any fashion.

Cosmic Force is Houston’s up and coming hot reggae group, with powerful lyrics and smooth transitions. Cosmic Force brings Jamaica to Texas, they will have your head bobbing and feet stomping. On March 11th @ Fitzgerald’s Cosmic Force gained incredible respect for their music. The performance was mind-blowing, the crowd was screaming to the top of their lungs after every song, and to be truthful, Houston, TX underestimated the powers of Cosmic Force. It’s rare you see an intro band that blows your mind, and as you can see from the pics, the show was amazing!!!
