50502384 Task 2 Digital Graphics Analysis of Film Posters: UP: With the film Up, the poster for the movie was made using computer graphics with an animated style which the film used. The poster itself is centrally focused on the house being lifted by an extreme amount of balloons, which is the main plot of the film, to get to Venezuela using his house. The many colours of the balloon make it stand out from the rest of the scenery as they are different shades and pop out to the audience. The background is a basic blue sky with clouds, however has a lot of colour to it due to being animated and gradually becomes lighter, the further down you look on the poster. At the bottom of the poste, we see the names of some of the people who worked on the movie, such as the director and producer in white text, complementing the colour scheme whilst also drawing attention to it, with a release date in a bolder font below it. This informs the viewer of who was involved in the film as well as when it will be available.

Analysis of Film Posters:UP: With the film Up, the poster for the movie was made using computer graphics with an animated style which the film used.

Star Wars, Return of the Jedi: The Star Wars poster for Return of the Jedi has many aspects to study on it, for example the thing that is most likely to stand out is the looming figure of Darth Vader in the background looking over the rest of the main Star Wars characters, but not as in colour as them as he is more faded into the background with his picture being more transparent, giving him a villainous aura. The other characters are not transparent, giving them a sense that they are vital to the plot and of the good side as they are more “full” than Vader and would have more of the light side of the force in them than him,

relating to the plot of the light and dark side of the force. We also see that the background is a dark blue and black mixed, representing the setting, that being space itself. There is also more writing on the poster of the title of the film as well as who was involved in making the film in a smaller font as to not take up much space on the poster.

Moonlight: The film Moonlight has a very basic photo of three different images put into one. The poster has had some editing done to it, with one thing being changed which was the hue/saturation of the photo, having a blue tint, representing the “moonlight” feel you would get from looking at this poster. We also see jagged edges to show where the other photos were added in, which also have a different and unique hue for each of the photos. There is also a lot of job roles listed underneath the title, such as the director, composer and producer among many other roles.

Original film poster creation process: For my original film poster, I have used an original photo to make a poster for a comedy film named “Robbie and Me” which will contain photos of both myself and a man named Robbie. I will begin with the following image and alter it to fit my ideal film poster. In the photo, you can see that the two characters are sat in what seems to be a dip at the top of a bench, looking off to the right at something, one smiling and the other with a happy expression on their face. This simple image will be the basis of the poster as the poster will only have slight tweaks and differences, much like the moonlight poster.

Starting with this photo, I will fix up the image and have the original image be the main focus of the fil, poster as it stars both main characters in the film, showing how the story revolves around them.

I have cropped the image as to remove the text on the original image, so the photo may look smarter. I have also used the spot healing brush as to touch up the image and make appear cleaner overall. My next step after this will be to change the hue and saturation of the photo as there is still not much editing done to the original photo. By changing the hue of the photo, I will then be able to add in the title of the film to the bottom of the poster, with job roles underneath in a smaller font, such as what studio made this product and the director and actors.

The following steps involved me mixing around with the colouration of the film poster. I used the black and white option underneath the adjustments section of Photoshop found on the right-hand side above the layers. When I did this, I still felt as if the poster was missing something as it still seemed as if it were missing something, as if black and white was too plain. Therefore, I adjusted the colour balance and gave the poster a more vintage feel to it. I did this as I imagine “Robbie and Me” to be a comedy with the main character

After this was done, I decided to add the title at the top of the poster above the heads of the two characters. I also added the logo for Warner Brothers as the studio worked to make “Robbie and Me”. As well as this, I wrote a short list of who was involved in making the film, such as who starred in the film, who wrote the script for it, produced it, composed the music for it and directed it.

After finishing the poster, my personal evaluation of the piece is that it is a decent film poster; however I would have like to take more original photos and layer them onto the piece and create a poster much like Star Wars with multiple images blended onto one poster. Unfortunately, I did not have the devices, or the time to take more pictures, so that would be changed next time. Also, had I taken original pictures, it would be more organised than this one I used, which has litter on the table and bags with food, which ruin the image as I would have liked a cleaner picture which would then allow for me to have a blank canvas to work with and put blended images onto.

My Photoshop skills were not entirely utilised as I could have used many other tools, however I found that they simply did not work with the image I was going for, such as the clone stamp tool. This clone stamp tool could have been useful had I made my poster about a drama or dark type of film, however mine was a comedy and had to be somewhat colourful and warm, hence why I didn’t stick with the black and white as this made the poster seem cold and therefore not fit the theme of comedy.

I have shown that I understand the very basics of Photoshop; however I know I can do more in the future if given careful planning and more images to work with.
