Impressive system of Conduits will deliver Solar Energy to Water Pumps
• 1.8-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation system installed at three city sites:
— Community Center: 428 kW, roof mount and shade structures
— Civic and Cultural Center: 263 kW, roof mount
— Reservoir City Pump Yard: 1,154 kW, roof mount
• Major heating, ventilating and air-conditioning upgrades, including DDC controls, to improve reliability and efficiency at Community Center, Civic Center, Senior Center, City Maintenance Yard, City Yard Pump House, and Pioneer Hall
• Interior and exterior lighting retrofits including occupancy sensors at 14 sites
• Citywide street lighting upgrades – existing cobra heads replaced with cobra heads with energy-efficient induction lighting, and existing decorative/theme fixtures retrofitted with energy-efficient induction lighting
• Solar production data and other project information accessible to the community on City’s website and on informational display at the Community Center
• Project positions the City of Brea as the largest municipal producer of solar energy in Orange County

City of Brea Energy Efficiency and Solar Power
Reservoir City Pump – 1,154 kWCommunity Center – 428 kW
Civic and Cultural Center – 263 kW
• Demonstrates Brea’s fiscal and environmental leadership
• Creates significant savings to City of Brea’s General Fund and Water Fund – $2.6 million in energy cost savings in the first five years of the project – a net cost savings of $13 million over the life of the project
• Solar power and energy retrofits reduce utility costs by more than 40%, generating annual savings to pay for infrastructure upgrades
• Solar power at the reservoir can help mitigate future pumping costs to the city
• New energy-efficient air-conditioning package units at the Community Center help ensure consistent indoor climate quality
• Energy-efficient interior and exterior lighting reduce maintenance costs and improve lighting quality and aesthetics
• Energy efficiency improvements and solar installations offset the production of 86,884 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions over 25 years – equivalent to avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions of 16,613 passenger vehicles over the life of the project
• Helps California meet the goals of AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act
