Brief Descriptions of the Astronauts

1 RICHARD GARRIOTT - Richard Garriott went to space on 12th October 2008 and

during his spaceflight he did several education oubeach programmes at lhe

International Space Station (ISS) Garriott also worked wIth the Windows on Earth project which provIdes an inleractive virtual view of Earth as seen from the

155[21] Garriott used Windows on Earth software to assist in the selection of

locations on Earth to photograph and the public vere able to use the same online

tool to track the ISS and see the view Richard was e periencing out an ISS window

He is an Amateur Radio Operator (callsign 5K Q) and during hIS stay on the International Space Station (ISS) communicated rith udents and other Amateur

Radio operators using Amateur RadlOl20] Garriott also transmitted photographs

using the ARISS SSTV amateur radio system

2 DR OWEN GARRJOTT - Owen Kay Garriott is a former NASA astronaut who spent

60 days aboard Skylab in 1973 and 10 days aboard Spacelab-l in 1983 In 1965 he

was one of the six Scientist-Astronauts selected by NASA His first space flighL the

Skylab 3 mission in 1973 set a new world record for duration of approximately 60

days more than double the previous record Extensive experimental studies of our sun of earLh resources and in various life science relaing t human adaotation to weightlessness vrere made H ona s ace fll as aboard pacelab-l n 1 83 a

3 MARlO RUNCO JR - ario Runco Jr born Januar 261952) i a mission specialist for NASA He is an Earth and planetary ~cientist elec ed by 1 S n astropaut

candidate in June 1987 Runco qualified for assignment as an astronaut mission

specialist in August 1988 A veteran of three space flights (STS-44 in 1991 STS-S4 in

1993 and STS-77 in 1996) Mario has logged over 551 hours in space which

includes a 45 hour spacewalk during his STS-54 mission His technical assignments

to date include having served in Operations Development where he assisted in the

design development and testing of the Space Shuttle crew escape system in Mission

Support at the Software AVIOnics Integration Laboratory (SAIL) where he

performed test and evaluation of Space Shuttle mission-specific flight software He

was also a Commander in the United States Navy

Becoming an Angkasclwa n wa s a chalJenge I had many friends and family member~ I Ihal said middotBeing an Angka sawan is an impossible dream 10 ach ievemiddot I wa s determi to prove them w rong and I took it upon myself prove 10 others Ihat MALAYSIA IS capable of producing Heroes

After enroll ing in the Angkdsawdn programme I realized that I hdd S9 other compelitoJs perusing thesdme dream as wa s Right then I knew if you want somet hing you must fight fo r It and be the best 01 the besl

The tfdl ning which I went through was not only from the physicd l dspect but dlso menta lly Day dnd night I would push myself to be the best in my class The hardest experience fo r me ws learning Russin (All the equ ipment fo r sPdce is in RU SSian) I remember my first lesson well because at the end of my first cldss I did not underSldnd a thing However I WltlS determined and kept pushmg m)self to achieve my goaL I kept lelling myself Ihal if the others can do it so can I

Becoming an Angkasclwa n wa s a chalJenge I had many friends and family member~ I Ihal said middotBeing an Angka sawan is an impossible dream 10 ach ievemiddot I wa s determi to prove them w rong and I took it upon myself prove 10 others Ihat MALAYSIA IS capable of producing Heroes

After enroll ing in the Angkdsawdn programme I realized that I hdd S9 other compelitoJs perusing thesdme dream as wa s Right then I knew if you want somet hing you must fight fo r It and be the best 01 the besl

The tfdl ning which I went through was not only from the physicd l dspect but dlso menta lly Day dnd night I would push myself to be the best in my class The hardest experience fo r me ws learning Russin (All the equ ipment fo r sPdce is in RU SSian) I remember my first lesson well because at the end of my first cldss I did not underSldnd a thing However I WltlS determined and kept pushmg m)self to achieve my goaL I kept lelling myself Ihal if the others can do it so can I

Becoming an Angkasclwa n wa s a chalJenge I had many friends and family member~ I Ihal said middotBeing an Angka sawan is an impossible dream 10 ach ievemiddot I wa s determi to prove them w rong and I took it upon myself prove 10 others Ihat MALAYSIA IS capable of producing Heroes

After enroll ing in the Angkdsawdn programme I realized that I hdd S9 other compelitoJs perusing thesdme dream as wa s Right then I knew if you want somet hing you must fight fo r It and be the best 01 the besl

The tfdl ning which I went through was not only from the physicd l dspect but dlso menta lly Day dnd night I would push myself to be the best in my class The hardest experience fo r me ws learning Russin (All the equ ipment fo r sPdce is in RU SSian) I remember my first lesson well because at the end of my first cldss I did not underSldnd a thing However I WltlS determined and kept pushmg m)self to achieve my goaL I kept lelling myself Ihal if the others can do it so can I
