Our Core Principles
• A sixth form college with high aspirations & expectations of students
• A sixth form college where potential is stretched
• A sixth form college where students are challenged and supported to achieve
• Year 12 students will study three subjects as two year courses. All changes to be made by the end of this week. Maths & Science sitting ‘transition tests’ to assess suitability for courses
• Most subjects are now linear and will be assessed in May/June 2018-
assessment opportunities throughout the two years to monitor progress and attainment
• Remaining modular subjects: Law, Politics, Mathematics, Further mathematics, Media Studies & Food Technology
Students will sit an AS examination in May 2017 • New BTEC specifications in ICT, Health & Social Care & Business-students
will sit 2 examinations one in year 12/13
• Only BTEC Applied Law and Public Services 100% coursework
• Most students will study an additional qualification such as EPQ, The Progression Module or GCSE Mathematics

• Based on GCSE Average Point Score
• Each GCSE grade is converted into points

• Calculated to produce a minimum expected grade/Alps target
• Issued to students/parents before October half-term and data shared with subject staff
• Progression towards target grades is regularly monitored-first reporting October half term

Aims of Work Experience Week
‘Inspiring the future’: DfE: Careers Guidance and Inspiration in Schools
Employers / placements should be:
Involved... Inspiring...Independent ...Informative ...Interactive
• To provide meaningful, quality experience of the work environment
• To support learning and future career aspirations
• To enable students to demonstrate their future potential to employers and universities
• To develop vocational & employability skills-interpersonal & transferable skills
• To enhance / support aspects of their study programme
Work Experience Timeline (see letter for further details)
• Information to students and parents will be issued in October 2016
• Ensure C.Vs are up to date or create a new one-independently & in tutorial
• Start process of contacting prospective employers ASAP
• Make an appointment with Heidi Haigh in free lessons
• Interviews take place with students throughout November, to discuss placements with Careers Staff
• Deadline for applications - 2nd December 2016
• Year 12 Careers/UCAS development day (Feb 2017) – CV / PS / Interview skills / WEXP preperation
• Placements confirmed and authorised by C&K Careers by the end of March 2017
• WEXP preparation in Tutorial during April 2017
• Paperwork sent home to be signed & returned to college
• Placement in July 2017– monitored by teaching staff
• Review and reflection / feedback from employers
Our Expectations-student booklet • Attendance & punctuality
– 95% above to meet or exceed targets
– Parent/carer to contact sixth form reception on day of absence
– Daily texts to parents if students are absent
– Lessons start at 8.45a.m, 11.25a.m and 1.10p.m students should be in the room ready to learn
– No authorised holidays at Post 16
– I.D badges have to be worn at all times
– Attend supported study sessions
– Outside working hours and social life should not impact upon college work
