THE STARFISH WAYLearning to swim can be a wonderful experience thatcan boost your child’s confidence and self-esteem as wellas being an essential life skill. The way in which your childis taught is a huge contributing factor to this being apositive experience. Children are not forced. Experiencehas shown that encouragement and peer performanceusually lead to participation, success and growth in self-confidence. By enrolling your child at Starfish SwimmingSchool you can be assured that your child will be taughtto swim the correct way. Ensuring proper teaching of thebasic skills such as being comfortable with the face underthe water and getting a good ‘feel’ for the water will helplater on when stokes are taught.

The correct techniques for strokes and preparation thereof are taught from day one withfocus on streamlining, correct body position, and proficient kicking and pulling ensuringmaximum distance per stroke. Safety is of utmost importance and teachers are alwaysin the pool with the swimmers. Teachers are qualified and hold current CPR and First AidCertificates.

Lessons are offered to children of 3 years or older unless agreed to by Starfish. Variouslesson options are available for the different schools. Lessons are held at either ourindoor, heated facility in Vorna Valley or at the schools themselves.Free transport is arranged to and from the pool and swimmers are driven by theswimming teachers themselves or a transport company is employed.

WHAT TO BRING·Please pack in a swimming costume and big towel in a plastic packet or small bag.

Simple bikinis for girls or plain bottoms for boys are best as they are easier to get off andon when going to the toilet. We will lend a costume to a child a maximum of twice ina year if they have forgotten to pack one in. Children with long hair or hair treated withoils need wear swimming caps, especially in winter.

·Please label swimming costumes, towels and swimming caps etc. clearly.·In winter please do not dress girls in stockings on swimming days.·If your child is not to swim due to illness or any other reason, please remember to inform

the teacher at the school or let us know via text message.·Please feel free to come inspect our premises and chat to us if you have any queries.·Parents who would like to see the progress their child is making are welcome to book a

free lesson once in a while for a Saturday morning or other suitable time.

Please read through the following information and conditions carefully.Once a single lesson has been attended it is accepted that the swimmer and his/herparent/guardian automatically accept the Terms and Conditions of Starfish Swim Schoolas set out in this document.

FEES, NOTICE PERIODS, ABSENCE AND HOLIDAYS·A registration fee is charged for all new pupils to the school and a re-registration fee is

charged if your child is re-joining after a break in lessons (max 12 months). This includesa free branded gift.

·Fees are to be paid by compulsory debit order unless paid cash or via EFT for 4 monthsin advance. Please do not pay swimming fees directly into your child’s school account.

· Our banking details are: Seacottage Aquatic Center, FNB 62723022216, CarlswaldBranch, 250 655, cheque account.

·Fees are due up front and to be paid by the first lesson of the term/month. If fees arenot paid by the due date, we reserve the right not to teach your child.

·For swimmers enrolled on a month to month basis, full fees are still due in December andJanuary and extra lessons will be done before hand if the school closes for the holidays,however we only offer 3 lessons per month for both December and January.

·The school is also closed for one week in April and 1 week in winter and lessons will notbe made up for these two weeks.

· Termly swimmers are enrolled for the year unless notice to terminate the contract isgiven. Payment for each term is up front and depends on the number of lessons in theterm.

·Please put the child's name, surname and school as a reference.·All fees not paid by the end of the current swimming month will be handed over to an

outside source for collection and will be subject to an extra 10% surcharge.·Our annual increase takes place from September.·Should you wish to discontinue or take a break from lessons for whatever reason, a full

calendar months notice must be submitted in writing by the 7th of the month at thelatest (no exceptions), or fees in lieu thereof is a condition for this. Notice should bee-mailed to starfishswimschool@hotmail.co.za and no verbal or text notices shall beaccepted. Please note that you will be charged for swimming lessons until this contractis terminated as stated above, even if your child is not attending lessons. We do needto plan lessons, teachers and transport and therefore this notice period is necessary.

· No notices will be accepted for cancellation of lessons in December.· Should your child be taking a break from swimming over winter, notices should be

handed in by the 7th May at the latest.· We offer a special rate to swimmers who swim through winter. This discount applies

after winter, from September and is valid for 12 months of continuous swimming. Shouldyou stop for a while and then rejoin this discount becomes invalid.

· Missed lessons will be forfeited.
