Definition of “disadvantage”

For the purpose of this report “disadvantage” includes children & young people:-

• from socially deprived areas

• from minority ethnic groups

• with disabilities.

Each of these groups have “traditionally taken up less sport” (Youth Sport Trust, PE & Sport Strategy for Young People, Oct 2009)

• Mytime annual attendances = in region of 3 million

• Over one million of which will be children & young people

• Independent benchmarking indicates people (including young people) using facilities are representative of local population

• 1 million casual (drop in, pay as you go) attendances & member attendances across facilities and services

• 2,742 Buzz and Connect memberships = value for money option. 458 (17%) benefit from concessionary rates = low income families

• Exclusive & inclusive provision for children & young people with additional needs.

• Play and childcare provision, including Breakfast and After School Clubs and Holiday provision. Important for working/single parents & geographically targeted.

Arts• Working in Partnership with South London Arts Partnership

to create opportunities for young people to participate in the Arts

• Working with a range of partners to provide a Big dance programme of free activities in July 2010

• Specialist arts knowledge to develop innovative programmes / projects and bid for external funding to support the programme delivery. For e.g. Funding for ArtsTrain from Arts Council, Youth Music etc.

• Sports Academy Programme to encourage excellence• Gold Academy Card to ensure low income not a barrier to

developing sporting talent• Club Development Scheme gives grants to clubs – funding can

be used to offset costs for low income families.• Balfour Beatty London Youth Games – 1,000 young people from

Bromley take part, inc 90 young people with disabilities in 2010.• Drive to ensure underrepresented groups are engaged in Youth

Games, especially those with disabilities.• Annually deliver over 4,000 hours of sports and arts activities in

over 50 schools (mainstream & special) both in curriculum time and after school.

TrainingAnnually provide training and development opportunities for young people:-

• Offer 10 work experience and work placements to local schools and college.

• Provide employment opportunities for young people.

• Support the Priory School Academy for 16-18 year olds.

• Active partner on the working group for the new Diploma in Sports & Active Leisure

Capital

In partnership with LBB we have reinvested £5.6m (inc - circa £500k pa from LBB Investment Fund) into improved facilities and services including Buzz Zone at The Walnuts LC and The Spa.

In partnership with LBB, The Priory School & Affinity Sutton Housing develop a new football centre at the Priory School - levered in £650K from Football Foundation.

• Funders include: Jack Petchey, London Development Agency, LBB Youth Service, Affinity Sutton Housing, Mytime

• Provision of sports & arts activities in targeted areas - Mottingham & Orpington, following youth consultation.

Targeted Programme : MyFuture

Statistics to date:-• Over 800 sessions delivered• Over 1,400 young people engaged• 9,200 attendances achieved • 550 training opportunities offered• 33 volunteers / coaches trained • 220 accreditations / qualifications achieved by young people

• Provides creative music opportunities & builds capacity of arts tutors & youth workers

• 510 sessions offered• 245 training opportunities• 105 young people achieving

accreditations / qualifications

Targeted Programme : ArtsTrainWorkshops include:- music technology, street & break dance, MCing & DJ skills

Venues: Schools - Marjorie McClure, Kingswood, Burwood, The Priory, Hayes, Charles Darwin, Bishop Justus. Youth Centres - The Link, The Duke and Jus B

Mytime’s commitment

Mytime will continue to:-

• Target children and young people.

• Strive to increase participation rates of children and young people in Mytime facilities and outreach settings.

• Work in partnership with current and new partners. • Bid for external funding to deliver innovative projects for the benefit of children and young people across the Borough.
