DESCRIPTIONBryher is a simply staggering contemporary architectural masterpiece designed as two gently curving wings that join to the north and slowly draw apart from each other creating an enclosed courtyard with a completely glazed link at the southern end. The masterstroke of the original design was the creation of a 65’ long open-plan kitchen/dining/living room with vast amounts of glazing along two sides and roof windows in the vaulted ceiling. This huge space is given warmth by the use of natural materials including the exposed wood framework and to one end is a Stûv stove set into a contemporary fireplace. Clever use of floor coverings creates three distinct areas and at the other end of the room is a refitted bespoke kitchen by Rozen with Silestone worktops, a large island and Atag appliances.

During our client’s ownership a significant amount of upgrading and extension work has taken place allowing the other wing to now house three further very good reception rooms, a well fitted large utility/plant room, a generous boot room opening to the garden and a proper entrance hall with cloaks cupboard, store room and an entrance into the integral double garage. Another significant enhancement has been in the creation of a superb master bedroom suite which has an opulent dressing room, Japanese inspired large en-suite bath/shower room with a wall of glass (with electric blinds) overlooking the Japanese inspired garden and the bedroom itself opens onto a large elevated decked terrace. This bedroom and the other three doubles all have Juliet balconies looking beyond the courtyard to countryside. All have fitted wardrobes, the guest bedroom has its own en-suite bath/shower room and the other two are divided by the family bath/shower room. It goes without saying that all of the fitments are of the highest standards including designer radiators throughout this floor, with underfloor heating on the ground floor.

It is not only the building that has been significantly upgraded, but the grounds have also been spectacularly landscaped with a myriad of specimens stocking the beds all the way up the driveway and then surrounding the house as well. Paving schemes create differing areas to sit and take in the westerly countryside view over the wooded valley below, with the most impressive of these being a 100’ long paved terrace outside of the main kitchen/reception room and this is partly covered by a veranda with impressive oak columns. Circular planted beds of shaped box around bay trees break up the paving and the splendid planting descends down the hillside below as well. Steps rise up past a fitted barbecue to a very accurate recreation of a Japanese garden to the rear of the house with a bamboo wall punctuated by a pair of gates. The garden is of pebbles with slate pathways, a decked terrace, boulder waterfall

feature and intricately planted acer beds with everything being to the backdrop of woodland behind the house.

The property enjoys a very high level of privacy, open aspects to the south and west and really lacks nothing. Bryher is certainly one of the most complete contemporary homes in this coveted area to the south of Truro and its architectural style and inspiring layout will surely remain cutting edge for many years to come.

LOCATIONPenpol is a picturesque creekside village in the parish of Feock, and within walking distance of the house is the head of the creek which then broadens as you walk further along and arrive at Point Quay where there is a public slipway. A longer walk or level cycle ride beside the creek then continues around to the village of Devoran and The Old Quay Inn. Only a couple of miles drive away is the National Trust owned Trelissick House Estate with blissful country and riverside walks and a south facing beach looking down the Carrick Roads.

The exclusive Feock area is surrounded by water with excellent boating facilities nearby at Loe Beach where there is a sailing

school and hire centre with cafe that is a hub during the summer. The beautiful Restronguet Creek opens onto the Carrick Roads (Fal Estuary) which provides some of the most picturesque and sheltered sailing waters anywhere in the United Kingdom. Larger yachts can be kept either at mooring or on the pontoon berths at Mylor Yacht Harbour or at Falmouth, both of which are around 15 minutes’ drive away.

One of the main draws to this area is that Cornwall’s capital city, Truro, is only about 5 minutes’ drive away with the fullest range of shopping, cafés, bars, restaurants, entertainments, sports facilities and schooling in Cornwall along with the main hospital, a multi-screen cinema, theatre, flagship Marks & Spencer store, a Waitrose store and a station on the main Penzance to Paddington line. Falmouth is Cornwall’s largest port but also has wonderful shopping, cafés, bars and restaurants many of which overlook the harbour or the beaches along Falmouth Bay. A short trip on the King Harry Car Ferry opens up the Roseland Peninsula which is one of the least populated areas of Cornwall and here there are also blissful walks, many beaches and the upmarket harbourside sailing village of St Mawes.

OUTSIDEA long driveway sweeps up giving access to one other splendid contemporary house before the wide private tarmaced driveway for Bryher then continues to curve around stone walls with magnificent planted beds to either side before arriving at a very generous parking and turning area in front of the integral double garage.

INTEGRAL DOUBLE GARAGE – 22’6” x 17’8”. Two electrically operated roller doors, window to the side, three slate steps up into the house.

Paved steps rise up from the driveway to the side of the garage to a paved area below the adjacent woodland giving space for an occasional seat. Paving continues until reaching a large decked terrace at first floor level with a glass fronted balustrade allowing a clear outlook over the interesting curving roofline of the main reception room to woodland and countryside beyond. Here there are wood clad raised beds with a fitted seat between them.

Around the fringe of the head of the driveway are all manner of wonderful planted beds with palms, ferns, giant grasses and agapanthus as well as shaped paving and golden gravel. Paving extends around to the west side of the house where there is a 100’ long gently curving paved terrace wrapping around the long main reception room and partly covered by a veranda with thick oak uprights. Along the edge of the paving is integrated lighting and tiered planted beds descending down towards woodland below.

Box hedging and bay trees make features of circular beds and there are views over the countryside. At the most sheltered far end of the terrace, outside of the kitchen is an integrated barbecue with steps then rising up to the Japanese garden and also down onto the terraces below. The whole way along this terrace one can hear birds in the trees and water in the stream in the valley.

To the rear of the house and overlooked by some of the upstairs rooms, is an extremely beautiful Japanese inspired garden with many interesting specimens including acers, camellias and ferns set amongst smooth gravel, larger rocks and slated paved pathways. The centrepiece is a waterfall and this is all to the backdrop of woodland and a Japanese inspired bamboo wall with swinging double gated entrance. In a secluded area of the garden there is a timber shed and plentiful space for storage and composting.
