  • PAGE TWO EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD April 5th, 2015

    Dear parishioners,

    I wish you all a very blessed and peaceful Easter!

    Like Mary did, I depart for the hill country in haste [Lk 1:39]. As I

    do so, I wish to simply say Thank you for the opportunity to have

    served for this short time at Santa Sophia Church. Over the past four

    months, I have been blessed to spend time with you providing for your spiritual needs and

    getting to know many of you. Hopefully, I have encouraged you, at least somewhat, to learn

    and to live the Catholic Christian Faith that we have been blessed by God our Father to

    have. You have a wonderful community here and I hope that you continue to sustain and

    grow the mission of our Christian calling to convert all

    souls to Christ, beginning with your own.

    May God bless you always!

    Gratefully, Fr. Timothy Deutsch

    Farewell Father Tim!

    The Pastoral Council joins the entire community

    of Santa Sophia in thanking you for your service to

    our Parish! You so graciously stepped in at our

    hour of need and have been a steady and guiding

    force for us these last four months. Your pastoral

    guidance has been invaluable and we offer you our

    sincere gratitude.

    We will continue to hold you in prayer and wish

    you all the best in your new assignment at Queen

    of Angels!

    T he Pastoral Council wishes to thank Father Tim, Father Bosco, the Santa Sophia Staff, Volunteers, and the lay ministers that have made

    this Holy Week so meaningful and joyful for our

    Parish. Your work is greatly appreciated and has

    brought great Blessings to our community for

    Easter.

    DAILY PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

    O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and; fervent priests;

    For your unfaithful and tepid priests; For your priests laboring at home or

    Abroad in distant mission fields. For your tempted priests;

    For your lonely and desolate priests; For your young priests; For your dying priests;

    For the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I recommend to you

    The priests dearest to me; The priest who baptized me;

    The priests who absolved me from my sins; The priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me

    Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; The priests who taught and instructed me;

    All the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way

    (especially...) O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart,

    And bless them abundantly in time and in Eternity,

    Amen

    DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY ~ APRIL 12TH HOW SHOULD WE PREPARE FOR THIS

    GREAT FEAST OF MERCY?

    Jesus told St. Faustina that this Feast of Mercy would be a special day. Our Lord made a great promise. Jesus said, The soul that will go to Confession and then receive Holy Communion shall obtain the complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.

    About the Feast Day Jesus said, ...tell the whole world about my inconceivable mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refute and shelter for all souls, especially poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon the souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy. On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy. (Diary 699)

    TO FITTINGLY OBSERVE THE FEAST OF MERCY, WE SHOULD: 1. Celebrate the Feast on the Sunday after Easter 2. Sincerely repent of all our sins 3. Place our complete trust in Jesus 4. Go to Confession preferable before that Sunday 5. Receive Holy Communion on the day of the

    Feast 6. Venerate the Image of Divine Mercy 7. Be merciful to others, through our actions,

    words, and prayers on their behalf. 8. Pray for the Pope.

    LIFE AFTER LOSS

    Another series of our bereavement program will begin on April 6th. If you or anyone you know has lost a loved one, you are welcome to attend. We meet on seven consecutive Mon-

    days from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Contact Sister Margaret Eilerman for further details at (619) 670-9663 or [email protected].

    Volunteer Opportunity Our Common Ground ministry, to aid elemen-tary school students in need, is looking for one or two individuals who can help schedule perform-ing arts presentations at our 5 sponsored schools. This program provides a rare opportunity for these students to see a live performance of music or drama.

    The organization work is already in place with contacts and re-sources. About 1 or 2 hours a week on the phone scheduling dates with schools and performers is all that is needed.

    If you have any interest and would like to know more about it, please contact Dennis Regan at (619) 670-8487

    Santa Sophia Women's Guild is having a Bake/Craft Sale on Saturday, April 11th and Sunday, April 12th. Baked goods can be dropped off in Prendergast Hall after the 4:30 pm Mass on Saturday, April

    11th and before and after the Sunday Masses at 8:00 am & 11:00 am. We greatly appreciate your generosity from our last sale. If you are interested about our group and ways that you can become more involved, we would be happy to hear from you.

    Please contact Lorraine at (619) 309-5609 or Irene at (619) 670-1433.
