Pool B DOM v MEX Dominican Republic wins Pool B at NORCECA U-20

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 23, 2012. - Dominican Republic finished first in Pool B defeating Mexico by 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-16, 27-25) at the NORCECA Women’s Junior Continental Championship. With long rallies Dominican

Brayelin Martinez with impressive 33 points was the best scorer for the winners.

Mexicans Alejandra Isiordia and Lizbeth Sainz finished with 22 and 19 tallies

respectively.

“This match was more challenging for us, I’m happy with the win, but not too much

because it could have been better for us, we lost concentration during the second set

because we pressured ourselves in doing things well” said Pamela Soriano Captain of

Dominican Republic.

Alejandra Isiordia commented “we responded well to the Dominicans pressure, we’re

still in the game this hasn’t finished yet and this isn’t the way we can play, we’ll be

giving our best as there’s still road ahead.”

Wagner Pacheco said not fully satisfied “we finish in first but surprises may come and

today we didn’t perform that well, we made mistakes that Mexico took advantage of,

their captain had an excellent match at a superior level.” He took the opportunity to

say that the whole Mexican delegation did things right, “today we won but they can

defeat us tomorrow.”

“First I would like to congratulate Dominican Republic it was tactically a great match,

this hasn’t ended and the qualification is still in stake, we must wait to see who will be

our opponent” said Argentinean Estanislao Vacino coach for Mexico.

sellar el triunfo hasta el segundo punto para juego.

Brayelin Martínez con impresionantes 33 puntos fue la máxima anotadora de las

ganadoras. Las mexicanas Alejandra Isiordia y Lizbeth Sainz terminaron con 22 y 19

unidades respectivamente.

“Este fue un juego más exigente, estoy contenta por el triunfo pero descontenta

porque pudo haber sido mejor, nos desconcentramos en el segundo set ya que pienso

que nosotras mismas nos presionamos por querer hacer las cosas bien” dijo Pamela

Soriano capitana de República Dominicana.

Alejandra Isiordia comentó “respondimos bien a la presión de las dominicanas,

seguimos luchando, esto no se acaba aquí y realmente este no fue nuestro juego y

daremos más porque aun nos falta mucho.

Wagner Pacheco dijo no estar del todo contento “salimos de primero pero pueden

haber sorpresas y hoy no jugamos del todo bien, fallamos cosas que México

aprovechó, su capitana jugó excelentemente, a otro nivel.” También aprovechó a decir

que toda la delegación mexicana lo hizo muy bien, “hoy ganamos nosotros pero ellos

pueden ganarnos mañana”.

“En primer lugar felicito a Dominicana fue un partido tácticamente muy bueno, esto

no ha terminado y la clasificación aun está en juego, debemos esperar cuál es nuestro

rival” dijo el argentino Estanislao Vacino entrenador de México.

Costa Rica claims Pool A over Nicaragua

MANAGUA, Nicaragua, August 23, 2012.- A Central American clash that had Costa Rica as winner by 3-0 (25-10, 25-23, 25-14) at the NORCECA Women’s U-20 Continental Championship. Costa Rica scored a total of 10 aces against one from Nicaragua; they claimed the first place in Pool A and are among the top four of the tournament. Angie Montero was the

best scorer for Costa Rica with 15 points along with Yuliana Gonzales with 10; while on Nicaragua’s side the best was Florelisa Smith with 7 points. Captain for the winning team, Angie Montero was thrilled for the win “Nicaragua is a tough team to face, they put strong effort; we made things difficult for them with our serves and in some point we were too confident but we were able to take control once again.” On the other hand Florelisa Smith was disappointed for the loss but at the same time pleased to continue alive in the tournament “even if we’re moving ahead we needed to motivate ourselves with a victory.” “The goal always is to win and give our maximum effort without caring who the

opponent is and close as champions. I’m satisfied with my player’s job, they come

from a process initiated by Prof. Perales and today we’re enjoying the results. It’s the

first time ever that we finish as the best four in a continental tournament and no one

can take that away from us.”

Claudia Noguera expressed “we reached our goal to classify to the second round, now

we must prepare mentally to face one of the big teams with responsibility.”

La capitana de las ganadoras, Angie Montero estaba emocionada por la victoria

“Nicaragua es muy aguerrido y pone muchas ganas; les dificultamos el juego con

nuestro saque y en algún momento nos confiamos pero pudimos retomar el control.”

Por el otro lado Florelisa Smith estaba decepcionada por la derrota pero a la vez

contenta por seguir con vida en el torneo “aunque sigamos con vida necesitábamos

ganar hoy para motivarnos como equipo.”

“El objetivo siempre es ganar y dar el máximo esfuerzo sin importar el rival y cerrar

como campeones. Estoy satisfecho con el trabajo de las jugadoras que vienen de un

proceso con el Prof. Perales y nosotros estamos cosechando los resultados. Es la

primera vez en un evento continental en el que quedamos entre los cuatro primeros

lugares, eso nadie nos lo quita”.
