Be my rock of refuge, a stronghold to give me safety. You are my rock and my fortress; for your name’s sake you will lead and guide me.

— Psalm 31:3-4

SOLID FAITH Today we hear Moses and the Lord Jesus summon their followers to listen attentively to their words. Moses reminds the people that a great blessing awaits those who obey the commandments of the Lord. Jesus tells his followers that those who listen to and act upon his

words will be like the wise man who built his house on rock. Saint Paul recalls for us the central truth of our faith: that we have been justified freely by God’s grace through the redemption of Christ. In a society in which we are constantly bombarded with words, let us take the sacred words we hear today to heart. May these words strengthen our faith and make that faith as solid as that house built on rock. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

WE ARE A SACRIFICIAL GIVING PARISH “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a

wise man who built his house on a rock.” - Matthew 7:24 Our Lord gives us two distinct commands today. We must listen and we must act. We listen when we participate in Mass. We act when we participate in the ministry of the parish. We need to do both for a strong foundation. Participating more fully in the liturgy and the life of the parish may require some changes on our part. We may have to move away from our current lifestyle so that we can move closer to God.

OPERATION RICE BOWL - This Lenten season, Catholic Relief Services invites Catholics to pray with their families and faith communities; fast in solidarity with those who hunger; learn about our global community and

the challenges of poverty around the world; and give sacrificial contributions to those in need. As we begin our Lenten journey, you are invited to participate in Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl. Throughout Lent we will pray, fast, learn and give as a way to reach out in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world. Please be sure to read the information that will be sent home next week with your child and follow this simple yet powerful Lenten practice.

OUR YOUTH IN ACTION! During the weekend of February 18th, 19th, and 20th, the Knights of Columbus council 8612 had their annual Tootsie Roll Drive for local charities. We stand outside of local stores and hand out Tootsie Rolls as we collect donations from the customers. Some Incarnation youth were caught in the act of volunteering! Each one volunteered 2 or more hours of their time, and they helped us raise over $3,500 for our charities: Incarnation School Special Education, Morningstar School for children with learning disabilities, Bakas Equestrian Center - Horses for Handicapped recreation, and Angels Unaware, Inc., a support group for families with a Downs Syndrome member. Thank you to the youth that participated, and to all the volunteers. We couldn't do it without you!

Regulations on Fasting and Abstinence

The dual disciplines of fasting and abstinence have a long history in the Catholic Church. Going back to the early Church, the purpose behind the custom of self denial is not punishment; it is to simplify our lifestyles so that we create a certain emptiness. In this way, freed from all distractions, we are able to hear and respond to God’s continued call to conversion and holiness.

† Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics between the ages of 18 to 59 years (inclusive). On days of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed.

† Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday are days of abstinence.

Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self denial that are suitable to their condition. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.

We have many Weekday Masses available! Please stop by or call the Parish Office to reserve a Mass for your deceased loved ones, or for your special intentions - anniversaries, birthdays, etc...

Jueves a Domingo

© Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.
