#2 COMMUNITY

#3 WELLBEING

The children are continuing to develop their interests and broadening their personalities, as well as their independence. We ask that families encourage this independence for example asking your child to put their own bag on their hook at kinder, having a go at rst with dressing, putting on shoes, etc. The children are also working on ways they can communicate their needs both verbally and non-verbally. The children are doing really well as a group at following the routine.

The children have been looking at families, with the recent focus on mothers and babies. The children enjoyed reading stories about mums, singing songs and making their mother’s day cards and gifts. We hope all our mum’s had a lovely day and enjoyed their brightly coloured sun catchers. We would like to congratulate our Wombat families; the Cole family, the Miller family and the Amos family, who have recently had babies. The children have been excited to tell us all about their new baby brothers and sisters. The children have been caring for dolls in home corner as well as washing them, drying them and dressing them at water play. The children are beginning to show awareness for others and are forming friendships with their peers. We recently conducted another re evacuation drill. The children responded very well, holding hands, following instructions and answering role call appropriately.

The children are continuing to develop social skills. We are constantly providing the children with strategies to help them work collaboratively with their peers. The children are learning to manage change and cope with frustrations and the unexpected. This can be a real challenge for three year olds. We read books, sing songs and have discussions about our feelings. The bean bags in the reading corner are a great spot for the children to go to when they are feeling angry or frustrated or just want to be alone. It is important for the children to have an area at kinder where they can enjoy moments of solitude and or self-regulate and manage their emotions.

#4 LEARNINGThe children are often observed interacting with others, exploring ideas and concepts during play. The program we provide oers the children the opportunity to learn to negotiate and share new understandings whilst challenging their thought process. Small and large group experiences promote these skills such as home corner, train set and other construction play. The children have been interested in colours. We have been looking at primary colours as well as making secondary colours. For example we used roller painting to mix red and yellow to make orange. We recently used colours red, brown, yellow and orange; the children created amazing autumn art work using dierent mediums such as brushes and their ngers. The children have had lots of fun playing with the piles of leaves in the kinder yard, collecting leaves and using them in their art work for pasting and leaf rubbing. The children are enjoying playing card games such as memory, dominoes and matching games like the shopping list game. Imaginative play is very popular amongst the Wombat group, the children enjoy playing on the telephones, cooking with sand, water and herbs from the garden as well as playing with the animals.

#5 COMMUNICATIONThe children are continuing to learn to listen to their teachers and peers. Group times are getting longer, we are incorporating group discussions and encouraging all children to be involved. Some children have even participated in show and tell. The children especially enjoy music at group time. Their favourite song at the moment is the shaker song. We use the coloured egg shakers to shake along to the music, the children have to follow instructions such as fast, slow, up and down. Recently the children have enjoyed autumn songs, they love singing as they pretend to be trees losing their leaves.

Hello everyone, I can’t believe we are already half way through term 2. I would like to ocially welcome Denise to our Wombat group. Denise has kindly agreed to take on the permanent position as our Wombat assistant. We wish Dola all the best with her recovery and we look forward to seeing her when she returns as assistant for the Koalas and Possums. The children have grown a lot since term 1. We now have 22 children in our Wombat group. The children’s art portfolios and learning journals are looking fantastic. Please feel free to view the Wombat reection book and your child’s learning journal any time. These journals are a great reection of what we do every day and how much the children are learning.

All children need a change of clothes in their bag in case of accidents, please label your child’s belongings.

Please check your child’s pocket regularly. Notices, receipts, fundraising events, etc will go in your child’s pocket.

POSSUMS4 Year Olds

Hello everyone! We would like to welcome to our class Bella, Max and Jasmine. Last term we said good bye to Ryani and Leo who both moved house and will go to kindergartens closer to their homes. We wish them all the best.

As part of our Teachers Registration the teachers have to attend 20 hrs of Professional Development each year. The purpose of these are to keep us up to date with current teaching methods and to further our knowledge of Early Childhood development. Due to the times of these Training days unfortunately it means some time o work to attend them. When this happens we will do our best to have a familiar face in the classroom. Thank you for your understanding.

We have had a busy start to the term with incursions, a special day and having a student with us. Our rst incursion was from Bayswater North Primary School (BNPS). The Art teacher came and held an Art class with the children. This involved them making a tree hand painting, which also linked to our program exploring autumn. This week we will have the Sports teacher again from BNPS visits us.

A couple of weeks ago we had our Mothers day Morning Tea. It was wonderful to see all our mums there. Leading up to this the children worked very hard preparing and making their gifts for their mum’s. On the day they were very excited and it’s always so lovely to see the expression of happiness and pride on their faces when their mum’s come

Our current program is designed to support the children’s social skills and further develop their concentration. This will be supported by a lot of social interaction activities and tasks that have a beginning and an end. We are also continuing on with our cultural diversity in our community. To support this we thought it would be nice to have a multicultural morning tea on the last day of term 2. Moreinformation will go out closer to the time.

Last week we had a reptile incursion and the children got to see, touch and learn about a variety of reptiles which included a green tree frog, snakes, a crocodile, a long neck turtle and stick insects. This was a wonderful experience and the children really enjoyed it. We currently have a student Anya and she is at kinder doing her placement on a Tuesdays with us.

AND WITH THE COLDER WEATHER,WE ARE STILL HOPING TO GET OUTSIDE

We had the Art Teacher visit from Bayswater North Primary School where we got to do a very creative autumn art piece using textures and colours that represent autumn. We will have a visit from the PE and Music Teachers this term from Bayswater North Primary School as well. We are also having a visit from the Dorset Primary school Prep Teachers to do some special activities with us at kinder, which we are looking forward to.

We have been receiving donations of boxes, art materials and paper so thank you to all the families who have donated these items, they are much needed for our kinder.

We had our reptiles’ incursion which was a highlight for the children and we got to learn a lot of great facts about reptiles and we got tomeet, touch and hold them. Toward the end of the term we will be having our very exciting chicken hatching program at kinder as well.

The children are enjoying Kimmy the koala going home with them this term. We have been very excited to see what Kimmy has got up to and she has been busy! The children are enjoying getting up in front of their peers and showing pictures and drawings of their time with Kimmy.

This term so far the Koalas have enjoyed learning about autumn, starting to learn how to recognise their names and letters, Australia and culture, reptiles, shapes and colours. The Koalas have been engaged in group play and activities that are promoting social interaction, condence and self-esteem.

Winter is basically here and it’s already very cold! If you could ensure your child brings a warm jacket or jumper as we will still get outside as long as it is not raining.

Spare clothes should be included in your child’s bag as well because we can get dirty or wet outdoors. Please ensure appropriate shoes such as runners or boots are being worn to kinder, as ugg boots or slip-on shoes can become a safety issue when children are riding bikes, climbing and running outdoors.

Please label the clothes your child brings to kinder so they can be returned.

The roster sheet is located in the foyer on the Koalas board. By coming to do duty, you are able to spend time with your child experiencing activities and the routines at kinder, helping the other children with activities and the teachers undertaking general duties.

Even if it is only an hour of your time, we would appreciate this very much. We hope to see you at some stage in our kinder session!

The children enjoyed making their mother’s day presents and decorating

biscuits for our Mother’s Day afternoon tea. They loved having you there to

share the special occasion.Thank you to the mums or special

persons who came and we hope you enjoyed yourself and your presents.

WOW! WHAT A TURNOUT WE HAD ON SATURDAY 29TH APRIL AT OUR FIRST WORKING BEE FOR 2017.

MAINTENANCE UPDATE

ARRABRI KINDERGARTEN ~ 42-78 ALLAMBANAN DRIVE BAYSWATER NORTH VIC 3136 ~ 03 9729 7583 ~ [email protected]

Our rst working bee for the year occurred on the 29th April and was a fantastic success! We had 11 families in total roll up their sleeves and put in some sensational hard work in readiness for the following weekend’s open day. The great turnout helped the morning go very quickly and not a minute over 2 hours total time was required.

The key activities were repairing planter boxes, rigorous weeding, whipper snipping, mowing as well as the planting of new trees and owers. We had a team of parents spend a good part of the morning ripping up the incredibly fast growing lawn that is encroaching the playground along with some muscles to assist in moving old furniture onto hard rubbish. There was also a dedicated crew cutting back overgrown bushes against the main building as well as redistributing the existing tanbark around the playground.

A special thanks to Jacqui Maxwell and Stephanie Hamilton for arranging plant donations from local nurseries which have certainly made a nice addition to the playground.

Our next working bee will occur towards the end of the year during term 4 at a date to be conrmed. Your involvement at these events will entitle you to a small rebate of your term 4 fees. Please speak to your child’s teacher for more details. All of the work is be made all the more easier by our parent’s time and eort. As the saying goes, ‘many hands make light work’, and it turns out to be a very fun morning with great people! Further information will be distributed closer to the date.

Dear Parents and families,

One of the things we focus on at our kinder is sustainability and what we can all do to help and promote sustainability at Arrabri. Help can come in many forms. Over the last couple of years we have asked families at various times to bring things and or donate things , to help us save time, resources and ultimately save money, which we can use then for other things.

Once again we are asking families to help us out with a small donation of either a box of tissues and/ or a couple of rolls of toilet paper. Of course this is not compulsory, and no name brands are more than ne. Some families might say,” we already pay fees every term, why should we bring toilet paper”? Of course you don’t have to, but for the children in 4 year old you are eectively paying just over $2 per hour for the time your children are at kinder. For that small amount of money we do an awful lot of activities at Arrabri (way more than any other kinder) including many incursions and excursions. This small donation will help not only save a bit of money but also petrol and time for our sta and committee to go out and buy it. This just goes a small way to help with our sustainability eorts. Last year our generous families donated so much toilet paper and tissues that it not only saw us through 2016, but half of 2017 as well. It would be great if we could do that again this year. We will Run out by the end of this term.

We appreciate that many parents donate their time, and others have donated other things, but if every family could help us out, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks you in advance for your help and support of this.

2017 Committee and Sta.
