DIABETES AND FOOT CARE Inspect your feet daily for cuts and blisters, dry or

cracked skin, ingrown toenails, and redness around nails, redness, red streaks or swelling. Also watch for feet that appear pinker, paler, darker, or redder than usual. If you notice any injuries or concerning changes—or if your foot hurts or feels less sensitive than normal—talk with your doctor.

Gently clean your feet daily with lukewarm water and mild soap, but don’t soak them. Dry carefully by pating or blotting the skin. Make sure to dry thoroughly between your toes.

Never go barefoot. Wear socks or slippers even at home. Wear clean, dry socks and change them daily. Some socks are made specifically for diabetes and have extra padding and don’t have elastic tops.

If your feet are cold at night, wear socks rather than using a hot water bottle, which can cause burns.

Keep your blood sugar under control—high glu-cose levels make it more difficult to fight off infec-tion.

Never trim a callus or corn yourself and never re-move them with a chemical agent. Your health care provider can help you remove them.

Don’t smoke—it can worsen circulation to your feet. Many people who need amputations are smokers.

Exercise to improve circulation and stimulate blood flow. Walking is a great low-impact activity. However, you’ll need to stay off your feet if you have an ulcer so you don’t make it worse.

Have your feet examined by your health care team at least once a year. Your doctor may rec-ommend special therapeutic shoes to protect your feet.

NEIGHBORHOOD CRIME WATCH By Joe Chippari

SHUFFLEBOARD RESULTS CAMBRIDGE WINS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP!!! 2/26 vs Ridgeway - Won 2 of 3 3/1 vs Riverland - Won 3 of 3 3/18 vs Woodbridge - Won 2 of 3 3/15 vs Pinelake Gardens - Won 2 of 3 Congratulations to the whole shuffleboard team for a great season! Come join us—meet new friends-have fun and get some exercise!! We practice every Monday and Tuesday at 1 p.m.

On Saturday, April 29th, between the hours of 10:00 a.m 2:00 p.m., the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla will be cele-brating its 75th Anniversary at Sandsprit Park (3443 SE St Lucie Blvd). The Sheriff’s Department “grill team” will be providing an old fashion cook out. Come and enjoy the show. Now on a more serious note. I have had a dog since mov-ing here 19 or so years ago, (not the same dog of course). I can’t blame non-dog owners to complain and be troubled when seeing a dog’s duty left in the grass and sometimes even on the sidewalk. Just hope the non-dog owner doesn’t blame the dog for being sloppy and not picking up after him-self. Please, to those that look the other way, don’t. It is your responsibility being a good neighbor to pick up after your pet and that includes getting rid of it in your own trash can as I have found plastic bags discarded in the bushes. Let’s all act as responsible people and accept the responsi-bilities that go along with owning a dog. One of our residents has advised me of a phone call she had received threatening her of being arrested and left a second call where he called her all kinds of names. I ad-vised her to call 911 if she gets another call and to keep any phone messages she may receive from them. The number she gave me was 772-285-3194. I checked it and could only find out that it is a Stuart mobile phone number.

Please let me know if anyone else gets these calls but before calling me I would strongly suggest you dial 911 because a threat like she received would make you & me feel frightened. If anyone leaves a phone message please DO NOT delete the message. Thanks, and stay on your guard as there are a lot of kooks out there. Stay safe

Joe Chippari
