PRINCIPALS MESSAGEHenry Lawson Festival a big success.

Thanks to all those parents and children who gave up their time over the weekend to ensure the Henry Lawson Festival was a big success. We had students Parade in old time clothes, Ride on tractors, trucks and on the back of floats in the Parade. Students were also pushing wheelbarrows and doing pavement art. Max Hamson, Kayla Forster and Charlie Hollow all had a go at the Miners Barrow Push. Denver Buchannan won the pavement art competition and got a $30 gift voucher to Stacks for her fantastic art work. We also had winners in the Unearthed art competi-tion with Bede Kelly, Rhiannon George, Brayden Britton, Oliver Hampton and Aliva Trevithick all gaining awards from their superheros artwork.

There were many other winners who we will try and acknowledge in coming weeks. Gulgong Public School would like to thank the following businesses for their support and sponsorship of our events this year at the festival. Gulgong Timber and Hardware, Centennial Hotel, Commercial Hotel, Prince of Wales Hotel and Troy McKellar Real Estate. This week our focus is Getting Along. We are trying to include others in our games and learning and help all students succeed at Gulgong Public School. Some of the things we are doing at school here and you can do at home to help develop these skills include, •Leading by example by using social skills, such as negotiating, considering others’ needs, and solving problems with your child and others. •Encouraging social and imaginary play using props and dress-ups.•Creating opportunities to practise social skills, such as sharing for older children, by having them work on joint projects, such as building together.•Developing strategies to help children join in with others.•Teaching children to embrace and explore the different places, things and people in their environment.•Talking with you about your child (e.g., sharing ideas about how they play with others, their likes and dislikes).

We are also encouraging students on assemblies and in playtime to be kind and considerate of others and their feelings. Gulgong Public School staff are trying to create a culture where students look after each other and help each other to be better learners and people.Recently we have had a communications and engagement team into the school to have a talk about how the school communicates with families and the community. They have given us some focus areas to work on and hopefully in the near future we are able to better inform our whole community of up coming activities and events. We appreciate the feedback from the community and remember you are always welcome to come to P&C meetings if you have concerns or ideas.

Paparazzi Club DonationOn Wednesday 6th June Di Clifford, secretary of the Gulgong Folk Club, presented a cheque to Gulgong Public School for the work of their Paparazzi club at the Folk Festival in January. Mr Alan Walker and the Paparazzi club took photos all weekend during the January event and the Folk Club donated $100 to show their appreciation of their efforts. In the Photo Di Clifford presents the cheque to School Captains Sigrid Germon and Max Hamson as well as Principal David Lewis.

There has been a survey sent out on behalf of Gulgong Public School asking for community consultation. If you can spare 5 mins to fill this out and tell us about the job we are doing here at Gulgong. The process is anonymous so all answers are private and will help shape the directions of the school.

This term in Kindergarten our Science topic is ‘Paddock to Plate’.

We have been learning about where food comes from and the process of how it gets to

us from farms.

Our unit commenced with a trip to Mrs Griffith’s farm. We saw many farm animals including sheep, cows, chickens and horses. When we returned to school we identified food, water and shelter are needed by all living things to stay alive. We were lucky enough to feed the sheep and have a sausage sandwich for lunch.

Next we investigated foods that come from farm animals.

We have examined the multi-step processes involved in getting various food products from the farm to the supermarket shelves. First we constructed a flow chart to represent the process of how cows produce milk.

We had a go at ‘milking a cow’ and enjoyed milkshakes!

Then we investigated the process of how eggs get tothe shops. We discussed how we can eat eggs and what we can cook with them.

Scrambled eggs were on the menu this week!In our classroom we have an incubator to observe the cycle of eggs to chickens.

The countdown has begun!Last week we identified how bread is made through harvesting and processing food. We watched a short video which showed us where bread comes from.As a class we made a flowchart to illustrate the process of how bread is made and how it reaches the supermarket. We made fairy bread, which was very tasty!

In the coming weeks we will investigate the processes of different foods that come from plants and how it

gets to us from farms.
