FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK…

4

At the outset, I wish to thank the members of the Bombay Orthopaedic Society for electing

me the President of our prestigious society. It is indeed a great honour for me and the fact

that it has come 25 years after my father was the President makes it even more special for

me. I shall strive hard to live up to your expectations.

BOS is equated with academic excellence and we are known for our academic activities

throughout the year. In an effort to stress on quality rather than quantity, we decided this

year to try and have fewer but more meaningful activities. With that in mind we have stream

lined the courses this year, a few have been dropped this year while other have been merged

in an attempt to give the participants a more fulfilling experience. I hope you will understand

and accept our rationale and based on your feedback we shall make any necessary changes

next year.

The BOS theme for this year is “Winning Decisions: Get it right the first time”. For too long,

we have heard the term “Day 1 failure”. This year, we wish to stress on how to make sure that

for any given situation or case we choose the right option the first time itself thus paving

way for “Day 1 success”. This theme shall resonate in all the academic events throughout the

year including the Clinical Meetings, Master Series, and various courses and of course at

WIROC 2019.

WIROC 2019, our annual conference will be held at the Renaissance Hotel and Convention th ndCentre from 20 to 22 December. Apart from the usual plenary sessions, we are planning a

number of sessions that will give a chance to a lot of our members to participate as faculty,

whether it is as a part of panels for case discussions, or presenting some interesting case or

an innovative idea. So I look forward to members participating in large numbers.

The Team BOS 2019 has already started making preparations for this year's activities. But

for them to be successful we need your whole hearted participation in large numbers. So, I

appeal to each and every one of you to participate in as many events as possible whether it

be Clinical Meetings, Courses and of course at WIROC 2019.

I once again thank you for reposing your faith in me and look forward to meeting you during

the course of the year.

Dear senior members and friends,

Bombay Orthopaedic Society is poised at a very important juncture in this mercurial world. It is a society which has been a pioneer in state-of-the-art academics and a brand icon like none other, a model which may societies seek to emulate. It is therefore an even greater responsibility for us to live up to it and remain at the summit of academics. Last year's theme was futuristic orthopaedics and hence we moulded our society to face the future. This process involved taking certain courageous decisions so that our society wins in the future. We implore you to understand this vision of ours and join hands with us this year in order to get it right this time itself in the best interest of the society.

Clinical Meetings are our oldest tradition and we need to real revival in the interest level amongst the vast majority seniors and juniors alike as regards participation. I once again appeal to all of you to make it a point to attend them as that is what connects us to our roots in this era of mushrooming super-specialities. I reiterate that the conduct during the presentations and discussions during Clinical Meets, Master Series needs to be exemplary and gentlemanly for all. Respecting the guidelines is paramount as responsible members both for delegates as well as conveners of all BOS events. We live in very precarious medico-legal times and it is only for the betterment of members at large that these measures are being taken. Photography and video recording of the cases during the clinical meeting and master series will not be permitted under any circumstances.

BOS instructional courses have been integrated and merged to deliver more comprehensive and value for money content. We have streamlined time table so as to have an optimal balance and enhance the flagship activities and instructional courses avoiding overlap. The administrative feature of BOS Observers which was introduced last year will be continued this year as well as a quality control measure since it has proven to be a very valuable regulatory exercise. Delegate feedback will be strictly online after logging in and certificates will be downloadable only against feedback form duly filled for all BOS activities.

thI also wish to appeal to each of you to join hands with us in celebrating the MOA Week 28 April thto 5 May, 2019.This year's theme is pre hospitalisation trauma care and the law with respect to

thorthopedic practise. Hence the first Master series on 5 may will be crafted on these medico-legal aspects. Society members wishing to participate in the social responsibility activities may

thwrite to the secretariat on [email protected] on or before 20 April, 2019 for the guidelines of MOA activity book. It is opportune for the society to reach out to the city, state and the nation and improve the public related systems towards trauma care. Please also join hands in

thcelebrating IOA Bone and Joint Health Day on 4 August, 2019. The President's theme for Bone & Joint Health Day is “Healthy Aging with Strong Bones”.

The BOS's journal is now featured in the Index Copernicus and the next step should be pub med indexing. I request all of you, especially the senior members, to contribute their original articles and research papers to the same to enhance popularising and eventually indexing the same. BOS Research applications also are now to be submitted online only in the set format before submission to the Research Funds committee. Only those submissions which meet all the pre-requisites only will be sent forward. The format is enclosed in the Calendar of Events.

I began this term as the first woman to be elected to the Secretary's post of the BOS on an enthusiastic note and sincerely applied myself to streamlining processes through tough decisions. Do realise that moving towards more integrative and stringently austere practices is an effort for improving the discipline and reputation of the society. I will sign of with these thoughts as I once again seek blessings, support, understanding and encouragement in all my endeavours to strengthen the ethos and camaraderie of our society at large.

Sincerely

Dr. Rujuta Mehta

JOURNAL OF CLINICAL ORTHOPAEDICS - THE BOS JOURNAL

BOS Journal is now entering in it’s fourth year and that indicates that the turbulent phase is over and we are now looking

to consolidate the journal in years to come. This will be possible only by cooperation of the BOS Executive and BOS

Members. We are currently publishing two issues in a year but we are open to increasing the number of issue depending

on submission. If every executive member takes upon himself to contribute one article in a year and also prime the

colleagues who are in their zone of influence to submit to JCOrth, we will have enough articles amongst ourselves.

JCOrth is now an indexed journal as per MCI criteria and is indexed with index Copernicus with ICV Value of 49.45. This

is an annual indexing and we must apply every year. The continuation of this indexing will depend on number and quality

of articles that we publish in JCOrth and to keep the journal indexed we would need more and better contributions from

member. We also need participation of BOS Members as reviewers for the Journal. We have created a link to join as

reviewer on the website and would request our members for please join us online as reviewers

BOS Journal is still young, but we will grow strongly with help of BOS Executive and BOS Members. We again thank

everyone for their co-operation and support

[email protected]

Dear Colleagues,

It gives us great pleasure to invite you for WIROC 2019, the 54th Annual meeting of the Bombay Ortho-paedic Society.

In spite of considerable advances in our field and the availability of newer and better technology, the incidence of complications following surgery, and revision surgery rates continue to rise. The resulting patient morbidity causes litigation, unhappiness and increased health care costs.

At WIROC 2019, using an interactive case discussion format, Masters in various fields will share their knowledge and considerable experience of patient selection, planning and meticulously executing surgery. The theme of WIROC 2019 is, “Winning Decisions - Get it right the first time.”

WIROC 2019 will be an event to remember. We will have the WIROC MORNING CLASS for the postgrad-uate & young orthopaedician, an ADVANCED TRAUMA COURSE for the general orthopod and SPECIALTY UPDATES for the subspecialty orthopaedic surgeon. WIROC 2019 will provide for orthopaedics from “WOMB TO TOMB”. You can take home as much as you want!!

We have chosen Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel at Powai for its ample space and serene settings, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It will provide the perfect venue for networking and entertainment at the end of an academically satisfying day.

The dates are 20th to 22nd December, 2019. We have negotiated extremely attractive rates for you to come and stay in the lap of luxury for a perfect mix of academics and leisure.

The entire organizing team is committed to making WIROC 2019 a memorable meeting. We look forward to welcoming you for the best, if not the biggest orthopaedic conference of 2019.
