Hi everyone, Nancy Hull here

standing in for Cathie Smith,

It has been a long, long time since we have had a show ingathering concurrent with a takedown at the Faulkner, and since we anticipate this occurring 4 more times this year, here are a few reminders to help the process run smoothly: • If you are there only to retrieve work from the ending show – take down your art and the label holder(s) from the wall; take the labels to the volunteer at the sitter’s table (on your right as you entered) to get checked off the list, and then you’re done. • If you are only entering art in the show – place your art on the floor along the wall (on the ta-ble at the back if 3-dimensional); proceed to the first table of cluster in center of room to sign up for gal-lery hosting and/or reception help, then pay your en-try fee, take your entry forms to the high tables and fill them out; take completed forms – do not separate - to the table that says “return entry forms here”; your forms will be proofed and your receipt, labels, tape, and numbers given to you; then label & num-ber your art, and you’re done. • If you are both retrieving and entering art, please complete the entry process first. Seventy-two pieces were submitted for the Faulkner show on August 3, and juror Meagan Stirling accept-ed all the entries. Meagan awarded First Place to Frances Reighley for her oil painting titled You Go Girl; Sophia Beccue received Second Place for Enough?, an acrylic on wood panel, and Kathi Scarminach received Third Place for her acrylic ti-tled Curtsy to the Sun. Honorable mentions were awarded to Judy Villa (Quince, photography), Bart Tarman (Unfurled-Together, gouache) and Julianne Martin (Emerging, mixed media). Thank you to all who participated in the August ingathering and to all who retrieved art from the July show – not a single piece unclaimed! During the August ingathering, several of you made known your willingness to help out in some way, and we’re very grateful for that and look forward to working with you in the future.

Early the week of August 2, when the very long run-ning show at 1919 State St. was scheduled to finally change, we received word that the property manage-ment company would have the interior walls painted. Rather than change out the show for only a few weeks, it was decided to just take down the show and start the quarterly rotation again in late summer. I apologize for the very short notice, ‘though it seems that all of you either got the news in time via the email blast from SBAAdata and/or from my per-sonal email. Many thanks are due to Jim Felland and Linda Roletti for their help in removing all the nails and for cleaning all the nasty label putty off the walls before departure. There are two items of interest from the August board meeting. The first is that the September show will have a limit of 4 pieces per artist instead of 3, but the 4th piece will be at no charge. Secondly, the question of accepting credit cards for show entry was revisited, and the board decided that, due to in-creased costs to the artists and to increased liability for the association, SBAA will not accept credit cards as an option. To all of you who, along with mailing in your mem-bership questionnaires, made donations to SBAA, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Your thoughtful-ness will allow SBAA to provide the scholarships to students at Westmont College, UCSB, & SBCC. Lastly, several members noted on their question-naires that they had been ill and unfortunately, we are saddened that we had not known. We consider our members part of our family and would appreci-ate you notifying us if you know of any member that is ill or injured so we can get in touch with them.
