The school is working hard to repair and replace damaged infrastructure and equipment but I am sure you can appreciate that this will be a lengthy process for us. Updated information for parents and carersabout COVID-19 formerly referred to as NovelCoronavirus (Novel Coronavirus) 6 March 2020

The NSW Department of Education is working closely withthe NSW Ministry of Health in response to the unfoldinginternational COVID-19 (formerly referred to as NovelCoronavirus) situation.

Further travel restrictions

Effective of 5 March 2020, the Federal Government has issuedupdated advice on travel restrictions on foreign nationals

(excluding permanent residents of Australia) coming to Australiafrom the Republic of Korea (South Korea).

Current advice from the NSW Government for parents andaffected staff is:

Students and staff who have returned to Australia and haveshown no symptoms during the 14-day self-isolation period areable to return to child care services, school or work.

The NSW Department of Education will continue monitoring theCOVID-19 situation and provide parents and caregivers withupdated information about the virus.

Personalised Learning Pathways Meetings

Our staff have really enjoyed meeting with our parents of ourAboriginal students in regards to their learning goals for 2020.It is so important that we build and flourish through theserelationships to ensure the best learning outcomes for ourstudents. Please ensure that at any time that you haveconcerns in regards to your child’s learning or achievementsto make a time to sit down and discuss this with your child’steacher. A big thank you to Ms Harding for all her organisationand work in scheduling such a high number of parent meetings.

P&C Meeting March 24

Our next P&C meeting will be on Tuesday March 24. Themeeting will commence at 7pm and will be held in Presleyclassroom. Mrs Patrick will be hosting a very informative andinteresting talk from 6.30-6.50 on Presley and Kindergarten. Allparents are welcome to attend!

Penrith Zone Swimming Carnival

A big congratulations to our talented swimmers who went outand gave their best in representing our school at the PenrithZone Swimming Carnival. Mrs Hetherington and Mr Kristofreported a fantastic day and were most impressed with ourstudent's behaviour, commitment and support of each other.Well done to everyone!

Clean Up Australia Day

As part of our ongoing commitment as a school and with ourstudents around sustainability and community responsibility,Mrs Cheetham again organised a most successful school andclass event to teach our children our collective responsibility for

litter as well as for promoting pride in our school environment.Keep up the tremendous effort everyone!

Principal’s Assembly

What a great Principal’s assembly we enjoyed. Thanks to ouramazing school community who came along to support andcelebrate with us and were so flexible with our change oflocation. It was a lovely morning celebrating the success ofboth our students and our staff. How great were our twodance performances. Mr Wood does seem to have all of theWHAM dance moves memorised! We look forward to our nextPrincipal’s Assembly in Week 10 and remind all parents thatAward Booklets must reach class teachers by the Friday ofWeek 9 to ensure they are processed. Thanks!

Zone Swimming CarnivalOn Thursday 27th February, 22 of our students competed inthe Zone Swimming Carnival at Penrith Ripples Leisure Centre.This was a particularly exciting year as we had many studentsrepresenting our school at the Zone Swimming Carnival forthe first time. The weather was perfect for swimming and theatmosphere provided by our students and parents cheeringeach other on was fantastic.

We congratulate all of our students who attended the carnivalwho represented Cambridge Gardens Public School with pride.Special commendation goes to Lachlan Jensen who finished3rd overall in the 11 years boys 50m Butterfly event and 5th inthe 11 years boys 50m Freestyle event. Special congratulationsalso goes to Jackson Smith who finished 4th in the 8 yearsboys 50m Freestyle event.

The team spirit displayed by all of the students who attendedwas excellent! A special thanks to Mrs Hetherington for beingour team manager at the carnival and thank you too to all thefamilies who attended to show support to our students!

Movie under the Stars – Saturday 28thMarch 2020

We are excited to announce Cambridge Gardens Public Schoolwill be hosting its very first movie under the stars! The moviethat will be screened is the Secret Life of Pets 2! Packed withhumour and creativity, this new chapter explores the emotionallives of our pets, the deep bond between them and the families

that love them, and answers the question that intrigues everypet owner: What do our pets really do when we are not athome?

Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children with children 3 andunder free. The preferred method of payment is online throughour school website (“Make a Payment” also known as “POP”)or cash at the office. All tickets will be handed out prior to theevent. All proceeds from the night will go towards our amazingschool!

Bring your family and enjoy an evening of fun! Face painting,a Year 6 Candy Store and a variety of food trucks will keepyou and your family busy pre-movie. Bring your own picnicblanket or beanbag but please no chairs due to the likelihood ofblocking the view of the movie for others.

Please Note: This event is an alcohol-free event and smokingis not permitted on school grounds due to the health and safetyof others. All children must be accompanied by an adult andremain under adult supervision throughout the event.

Clean Up Australia DayOn Friday 28th February all classes participated in our CleanUp Australia Day event at school. After lunch, classes went outto their designated areas around the school with their teachersto pick up any rubbish they could find and place it into thebin. Our students’ efforts helped to keep our school grounds,learning areas and play areas clean and beautiful and to reducethe impact of litter and waste on the environment. All studentsparticipated keenly and with great enthusiasm as CambridgeGardens Public School stays committed to improving andmaintaining our sustainability and healthy environmentalpractices.

Crazy Hair DayCambridge Gardens celebrated Crazy Hair Day on Friday the6th of March. It was a fabulous success! Everyone had uniqueand crazy hair styles including spiders and spider webs,enchanted forests, unicorns, witch hats and drink bottles!Some students had bright and colourful hair, others had curlyand frizzy hair.

Crazy Hair Day was a fundraiser for our Year 6 cohort. Weasked everyone to bring in a coin donation on the day. OnFriday we raised over $630! We are really impressed with thislarge donation. All the proceeds will go towards our Year 6farewell at the end of the year. Thank you to everyone whoparticipated on the day!

International Happiness Day

Reading WorkshopsCambridge Gardens Public School is a community in whichteachers and parents work together for the learning needs ofour students. We would like to continue to provide parentswith the opportunity to participate in Stage based readingworkshops. The aim of these workshops will be to informparents of some of the reading programs and strategies weare implementing at our school and give some practical ideasparents can implement at home with their children.

The Kindergarten and Stage 1 reading workshops will heldon Thursday morning of Week 8. The Stage 2 and Stage 3workshops will be held on Wednesday morning of Week 9.Each of the workshops will run for approximately 50 minutes.There will be time during the presentations to have a cupof coffee and a chat with our teachers and parents. Theworkshops will be held in the Computer Room. We ask thatparents book their workshop place online following the linksprovided. We would appreciate if students and younger siblingsdo not attend the presentations.

Gardening Club 2020Would your child like to join the school’s Gardening Club?

Our aim is to learn about our school environment, learn howplants grow, and help maintain some of the school's gardens.Members of the Gardening Club participate in activities such asplanting, watering, weeding and mulching. Any students, fromKindergarten to Year 6, are welcome to join.

This term our Gardening Club will operate between 8.40 and9.05 on Wednesday mornings. Our first session will be held11.3.20.

Children will be supervised and assisted in their gardeningactivities by Mr Bale and Mrs Cheetham.

The Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisureand pleasure in students and to enable them to experiencequality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to eachstudent to read, to read more and to read more widely. The

Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is available for all NSWstudents in kindergarten to Year 9. All information about thechallenge and how to record books for the challenge are on thewebsite at [email protected]

The challenge opened on the 3rd March 2020 and closes onthe 28th August 2020.

Children from K-2 will complete the challenge at school withtheir teachers and Mrs Antonelli reading PRC books to them.If you have a child in K-2 and you wish to participate in thechallenge with them at home this would also be encouraged.Each child that completes the challenge at home will receive aClass Award and have their names printed in the newsletter.

Children in Years 3 -6 are responsible for completing thechallenge and recording their reading log individually throughthe PRC website.

Scholastic Book Club

Book Club pamphlets were handed out last week. All BookClub purchases are to be done through the Ashton ScholasticWebsite and paid for by credit card. The website explains howto set this up and how to order.

NO CASH ORDERS ACCEPTED AT SCHOOL.

The school receives bonus points for all children’s purchasesand can use these to buy new books and resources for theschool.

BOOK CLUB IS DUE BY 23RD March.

Easter Celebration 2020As part of our Easter Celebrations for 2020, students will bedesigning and decorating an Easter hat or egg diorama.

Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 are asked to makeor decorate a hat at home to wear during our Easter Parade.They will be parading their hats at the Easter event on Thursday9th April commencing at 9.45am under the top COLA. Parentsare invited to attend the Easter Celebration and we ask that youbring a picnic chair for comfort during the parade.

Our Year 3-6 students will be designing and making an eggdiorama. We look forward to viewing your fabulousEggstravaganza creations. The Eggstravaganza dioramas willbe on display in the library for parents to view from 8.40am untilour Easter Parade begins at 9.45am on Thursday 9th April.

More information will go home with your child’s homework inthe coming weeks.

We invite parents to have recess with their children after theparade. Our Year 6 students will be selling cupcakes for $2 atrecess time to raise money for their Year 6 Farwell at the end ofthe year.

TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY 2020It’s that time again. I am delighted that this term, our school,like many other public schools in the state, will participate ina Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Mestudent feedback survey. The survey measures factors thatare known to affect academic achievement and other studentoutcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on studentwellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provideus with valuable and quick feedback on what they think aboutschool life, how engaged they are with school and the differentways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schoolsin Australia and around the world have used Tell Them FromMe to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of ourstudents will help improve how we do things at our school.

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey isconducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes tocomplete. It will be administered during school hours between23rd March and 8th May. Participating in the survey is entirelyvoluntary.

A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the surveyis being sent home with students. If you do not want your childor children to participate, please return the form to school byFriday, 20th March 2020. Copies of the form and FAQs areavailable from the link below:

Expressing GratitudeWe have been so overwhelmed to hear of the hard work thatthese students have done to raise money for Bushfire Relief, allthe way from CANADA!! From bake stalls to donations, thesestudents successfully raised $1200 for people in a country halfa world away. How amazing is that?!

To show our gratitude, classes Barnes and NSYNC wrote someappreciation letters. We would again like to thank SouthernKings school students for their kindness towards bushfireaffected communities.

SRC Leadership DayYesterday the SRC, Miss Vella and Ms Harding were gatheredtogether for the Leaders of Tomorrow Program. We were allparticipating in a series of events with tasks and leadershipactivities. One of the activities we did was researching peoplewith the qualities of good leadership skills. The SRC watchedsome inspiring videos about compassion and kindness. TheSRC participated really well in the activities and really enjoyedthe SRC Leadership Day.

Venga AssemblyOn Friday 6 March 2020 Venga Class hosted the K-2 assemblyand danced to the song 'We Like to Party'. We wore somesparkles and very nice bright coloured shirts. We liked dancingwith our Vengabus!

2020 CohortAs you may be aware, our school is participating in an excitingresearch project on teacher professional development. Theresearch is being undertaken by the University of Newcastle,and is scheduled to continue in Term 1, 2020.

Students who took part in the project last year are invited tocontinue their participation in 2020.

Two new groups of students will also have an opportunity toparticipate in the research and invitations will be sent out torelevant classes shortly.

Participating students will complete some surveys andassessments as part of their usual school activities. All nameswill be removed and only student numbers will be given to theresearch team so that they can link survey and assessmentresults with NAPLAN and school attendance data.

If you do not want the research team to have access to thesedata, you can opt-out on your child’s behalf at any time. Forfurther information about the research, please visit the researchwebsite at the link below or call the research team on (02)49854300.

Recycling Program – Bread Tags!At Cambridge Gardens Public School we started collectingplastic bread tags last year. We are happy to let you know thatthis program is continuing in 2020. These plastic bread tagswill be sent in to Terracycle to be cleaned, melted and thenremoulded into new recycled products.

Bread tags can be placed in the labelled box outside Swiftclassroom each Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. Thank you!

P & C NewsHope everyone is having a great week so far! Here is what’sbeen happening with the P&C.

On February (25th we held our first General Meeting for 2020. Iwould like to thank everyone for coming. We decided we will beholding our Annual Mother’s Day Stall at the beginning of term2, so make sure you keep your eye out on advertising aroundthe school, in the news and on Facebook. Our next meeting willbe held on Tuesday 24th March at 7pm in the school staffroom.Everyone is encouraged to come and see what we are planningfor this year!!

School Banking

School Banking happens every Wednesday morning! Pleaseplace your bank book in the banking bin which is locatedoutside the library door next to Pat the Dog! We would like tothank all the kids that have been banking with us.

Preloved Uniform Shop

Preloved Uniform Shop is open every 2nd Friday (k2 assemblyweek) before the morning bell. Area 1 near Presley’s classroom.Donations are welcome (official uniforms only) we only acceptcash!
