FRESHMAN YEAR EXPERIENCE

Freshman Year Experience is a very good program at Valdosta

State University. It helps incoming freshman become familiar with

the campus, get adjusted to campus life, and most importantly it requires students to get out and get involved in the community for

a minimum of ten hours!

WHY COMMUNITY SERVICE IS IMPORTANT

I think that it is important for everyone to be involved with some form of community

service. For one, it gives back to the community or an organization and always supports a good cause. Second, it allows an individual to learn responsibility and

diligence!

KAPPA SIGMA’S PHILANTHROPY

Every year, Kappa Sigma sets aside a special week in the spring

dedicated to its philanthropy. Kappa Sigma’s philanthropy is The

American Cancer Society and The Haven.

fight cancer and find new treatments as well as new cures

for the fight against cancer.

THE MISSIONKappa Sigma’s Mission during

Philanthropy Week 2008 was to raise money for the American Cancer Society and the Haven

House. Not only did Kappa Sigma want to raise money for a good

cause, but it was also important to have fun doing it and to get involved in the community!

SAND CASTLE DAY One day the sororities built sand castles

and it was the best day.

OTHER ACTIVITESAlong with doing the sand castles,

sororities also competed in a scavenger hunt across VSU’s campus, Karaoke at

Charley O’Corleys, and a pageant. Then the entire week was topped off with an

end of the week celebration at the Kappa Sigma house where there was a

band and good times!

A LEARNING EXPERIENCE

I gained many things from doing Philanthropy Week. First, I learned how important it is to be involved. Second, I learned responsibility,

diligence, and teamwork!
