Camp Incredible 2018 - Information, Policies, and Procedures

Dates and Times Our summer program will consist of six one-week camps as follows: Session 1: June 4 - 8 Session 3: June 18 - 22 Session 5: July 9 - 13 Session 2: June 11 - 15 Session 4: June 25 - 29 Session 6: July 16 - 20

All camp sessions are Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Extended day available for additional fee.

Fees

Early Registration - $225 per session (by March 30, 2018)

Regular Registration - $250 per session (after March 30, 2018)

Some camps require an extra fee - see descriptions for details. Payment: Payment must be made at time of registration. The online registration system accepts major credit cards and digital checks.

Grade and Age Levels All grade levels refer to the grade the student will be entering in the fall of 2018. For Pre-K level, the student must be 4 years old before the start date of the camp session. ( Refunds/Cancellations Tuition is non-refundable unless a camp is cancelled for insufficient enrollment. If a camp is cancelled for this reason, the student may select another camp, or the tuition will be refunded. No refunds or credits are given for absences. Changes

Regardless of the reason for changes (except in the case of cancellation due to insufficient enrollment), a $25 change fee will be charged for each change made to a student’s enrollment.

Changes must be made by the Friday before a session is scheduled to begin.

If you need to change your student’s registration after you have enrolled, you must complete and fill out a Change Form.

Extended Day

Extended Day is available daily from 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Extended Day is available in three separate sessions so that you can choose the specific times you need: AM (7:30-9:00),

PM Session 1 (3:00-4:15), and PM Session 2 (4:15-5:30). The weekly cost for each single session is $50.

You may also use the Extended Day program on a drop-in basis at a rate of $15 per day per session.

Extended day program activities are less structured than those in the regular summer camps and will include outdoor play, games,

videos, puzzles, etc.

Students attending afternoon Extended Day should bring a snack.

Late Pickup

Pickup is from 3:00 to 3:10 p.m. Any child not picked up by 3:15 p.m. will be sent to the Extended Day Program and charged the drop-in rate, with a minimum charge of $15. Any student in afternoon Extended Day who is not picked up by 5:30 will be charged a $15 late fee plus $1 per minute after 5:45 p.m.

Lunch Students should bring a sack lunch, including a beverage. Lunches should not include soda or candy. Microwaves are available, but

items needing to be warmed up should take no longer than 2 minutes in the microwave. Lunch will be supervised. University School

has a no-peanut policy; please do not include peanut products in children’s lunches.

Behavior

Students are expected to have good behavior and follow classroom and school rules at all times. Attendance at our summer program is

a privilege, and inappropriate behavior may jeopardize that privilege.

Personal Items University School is not responsible for personal items brought to camp by students. We prefer that students do not bring personal wire-less devices, such as cell phones, e-readers, etc., to camp. If wireless devices are brought to camp, they must be turned off. University School is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage of personal items brought to camp.

1C Maui Adventures

Let’s forget about our worries and fly to the island of Maui! We’ll make leis and surfboards, build sand castles,

watch volcanoes erupt, collect sea shells, go on a treasure hunt, learn Hawaiian songs, and even have lunch under

the sea! Have you tried Maui potato chips? We’ll even enjoy some of the favorite foods of Maui kids!

PreK - 1st

1D Monkey Business*

Get ready for a “chimply” marvelous time! We will be “swinging” from one activity to another as we board the

“Banana Boat” (aka school bus) and travel to museums, splash pads, Whiteside and Chandler pools, and lots of

parks. We may also watch a few movies (G or PG). Hats, closed-toe shoes, and sunscreen are required. Be pre-

pared to get wet every day! Instructors: Eileen Rutter/Bernie Woytas

K - 2nd

1E It’s a Mystery Get a clue, and join the Super Sleuths at University School for a week filled with solving mysteries, scavenger

hunts, history mysteries, finger printing and more. We’ll use stories from the popular A-Z Mysteries, Cam Jansen,

Bailey School Kids, Jigsaw Jones, Sherlock Holmes, and even the Nancy Drew Mystery series as a basis for planning

daily games, crafts, snacks, and other activities. Put on your detective hat, and let’s have some summer camp

1F Let’s Go Lego Lego campers will experience individual and team challenges, create “moving” Lego creations and video their

progress with stop-motion iPad applications. Instructors: Mary Still and Becca Roe 1st - 3rd

1G Pinterest Party

You’ve seen it on Pinterest, now make it at camp! Each day will have a fun-filled theme: Beach Party, Unbelievable

Unicorns, Perfectly Panda, You Scream Ice Cream, and Marvelous Mermaids. From canvas paintings to bath bombs

to snacks almost too cute to eat, we will make it and you get to take it, but without all of the mess at home.

1H Marvelous Math

Do you speak Math? Learn the language of math while enjoying indoor and outdoor activities. We will increase

our math literacy while having conversations about math problems. Verbal problem-solving and explicit strategy

instruction will be part of our fun and games. Friday will include a fabulous fraction party with edible equations.

1I USchool Star Wars

A long time ago, in a classroom NOT so far away . . . Join us on this galactic journey into the world of everything

Star Wars. The force will be with you as you make your own light saber, enjoy Star Wars snacks, play Empire vs.

Rebel games, dress and act as characters, and maybe even welcome a special visitor or two. If you love Star Wars,

then this is the camp you are looking for! Instructors: Pam Thomason and Glen Thomason

1J Fashion Show Sewing, Sr.

Our exclusive sewing project will be a fake fur stole to wrap up in and model in Friday’s Fashion Show. Each stu-

dent will also sew a small stuffed animal. We’ll also play games and use rubber stamps to make cards and crafts.

No sewing experience is necessary. You’ll have SEW much fun! Instructor: Lori Hovenesian

5th - 8th

1K Beginning Academic Bowl

Buzz in! This camp is specifically designed for the beginning academic bowler. Learn about study tools, how to

write questions, and what topics and items come up often during quiz bowl competitions. There will be daily prac-

tice and a tournament. The camp will stress best strategies for playing on a team and in different academic bowl

formats. Instructors: Kay Strain and Teresa Smith

5th - 8th

1L Hot Stuff/ Cool Treats

If you like to create things with fuse beads and make cold treats, this is the camp for you! We’ll iron awesome

designs and make a variety of cold taste sensations. We will modify pre-made ice cream into delicious delights,

2A Japanese Culture for Kids

We’ll immerse ourselves in all things Japanese in this fun camp! We will learn to fold origami, make and illustrate books, learn simple calligraphy, create a Japanese garden, fly kites, count to 10 in Japanese, learn common Japa-nese phrases, make and sample Japanese foods, and even eat our lunch on tatami mats. 2B Summertime Fun with Water

Let’s experience water in all its many forms! In this camp, we’ll play with water, taste it, experiment with it, and discover why it is an essential part of life. We will find out what happens when water meets up with light, dirt, seeds, rocks, plants, and human skin. Come join the fun! Instructors: Cheryl McBride and Michele Fox

2D Time Travelers Just like Jack and Annie, popular characters from the Magic Tree House books, campers will travel back in time to

explore many interesting places. The Magic Tree House series introduces young readers to different cultures and

important times in history. Each day of camp will offer a new adventure, based on books such as Pirates Past

Noon, Night of the Ninjas, High Tide in Hawaii, Balto of the Blue Dawn, and Stage Fright on a Summer Night. Sto-

ries, skits, games, snacks, and crafts will reflect the adventure of the day. Climb into the Magic Tree House and join

2E Super STEM Challenge

Enjoy a week of science, technology, engineering, and math with tons of fun challenges where students can ex-

plore density, gravity, buoyance, potential and kinetic energy, solar power, and laws of motion just to name a few.

Some of our engaging activities will include: a space lander challenge, making a roller coaster, creating the tallest

tower, solar-powered snacks, fidget spinner facts, rockets, robots, and more! Instructor: Shannon Johnson

pass before camp. Students will be provided with a swim shirt for the week; it must be worn to prevent sunburn.

2H Games Galore Do you love Connect Four, Apples to Apples, or Uno? Join us in the fun of the game. We will enjoy dice, card,

board, party and children’s games. We’ll have the opportunity to use real-life social skills in turn-taking, problem-

solving, differentiation of facts and opinions, and much more. Join us as we form bonds and build friendships while

we hang out, talk, and play games. Instructor: Lorna Fuller

2I 1970s Summer Fun

Unwind and enjoy laidback days of summer fun. We’ll have simple, active outdoor play activities such as hula

hooping, jump roping, playing jacks, and kickball. Indoor activities will include board games, card games, movies,

3rd - 5th

2J Lego Motion Lego attendees will participate in building competitions on an individual basis and in small groups. Campers will

explore the TU campus, create “masterpieces,” use stop-motion iPad applications, build relay races, and more!

2K Bacon Me Crazy!

Go whole hog in this pig/bacon inspired camp! We won’t be eating much pork, but we will make pig-themed

crafts, watch Kevin Bacon movies, watch a few pig movies, and play swine games. We will be bakin’ our snacks. Be

prepared to pig out! Instructors: Melissa Hamby and Teresa Smith

2L High School Academic Bowl Prep

Join Mrs. Strain for a week of competition and high school academic bowl preparation. Students will learn about

the style of play in both the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSAAA) and National Academic

Quiz Tournaments (NAQT). We will play games and make and use study guides with topics that come up frequent-

ly in tournament play. Mrs. Strain has won state championships with high school and junior high teams seven

times and has also had two runner-up teams. Come enjoy a fun, competitive atmosphere where we will get stu-

dents ready for high school academic team tryouts! Instructor: Kay Strain

3B Teddy Bears & Their Wild Cousins

Do you have a fondness for a special stuffed, lovable bear? Do you enjoy stories about Winnie the

Pooh, Paddington Bear, or Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Then, this camp is for you! Through story

and play, we’ll learn what it is that makes our cuddly companions so wonderful. We will also learn

about the real-life bears of North America. From hosting teddy bear picnics to tasting some genuine

bear food, campers will come away with a new appreciation for both kinds of bears.

3C Frozen Join us as we explore the world of Disney’s Frozen. We’ll sing and move to the movie’s music, create

art, play snowball games, build ice castles, participate in dramatic play and read stories about other

frozen habitats. Join your friends from some frozen fun! Instructor: Cheryl McBride

PreK - 1st

3D American Girl Adventures

Enjoy a week of activities based on American Girl materials. Students will enjoy special themed days

including Friendship Day, Pancake and Pajamas Day, International Day, and Western Day. Fashion

design, stories, puzzles, games, crafts, movies, and snacks will keep your American girl entertained.

Campers are welcome and encouraged to bring their dolls to camp. However, University School is not

responsible for the dolls or other personal items brought to camp. Instructor: Regina Ritchie

3E Young Chefs of America

Cooking helps kids develop confidence and self-assurance. In this camp, kids will learn to make meals

and snacks, understand kitchen tools, read recipes, plan, and shop. They will also learn about nutri-

tion, foods that go well together, and what foods make a balanced meal. All this while having tons of

fun! Instructor: Leslie Gore

2nd - 4th

3F Lego Mania Lego campers will participate in building competitions on an individual and group basis, create

3G Field Trip Fun*

We’ll have a week of field trips in this fun-filled camp. Some of our activities and destinations may

include swimming, roller-blading, fishing, archery, skating, and water parks! You don’t need equip-

ment for these activities in order to participate. Rainy days will be just as fun and may include G or PG

movies. Field trips may vary depending on age of participants and weather. Snacks and Gatorade

provided daily. Athletic shoes/sneakers recommended. Be prepared to get wet every day.


2nd - 8th

3H Vocab is Fab Campers will enjoy a week of fun and games while expanding their vocabulary. Indoor and outdoor

activities will be utilized to build vocabulary skills. Our fun lessons will not only aid in vocabulary de-

velopment, but will also reinforce auditory skills, cooperative teamwork, and analytical thinking.


3rd - 4th

3I Planetology & Beyond: Exploring the Universe

See the solar system as it was discovered by Mariner and Voyager and marvel at the discoveries of

more modern planetary probes such as Cassini and Galileo. Subjects will include planets, black holes,

dark matter, gravity waves and more. Hands-on activities will make subject matter accessible and

videos will include interviews with scientists, engineers, and astronauts. Students will be given the

opportunity to research astronomical topics of their own interest, make conjectures about future

discoveries, and share their results. Instructor: Lily Clough

5th - 8th

3J All Around Academic Bowl

Buzz in! This camp is specifically designed for all academic bowlers. Topics covered will be different

from those in the beginning and advanced camps. Learn about study tools, how to write questions,

4A Build-a-Band This summer, let’s learn about instruments, make a few, and sing and dance, too! Through crafts and

activities, we’ll learn about instruments, music theory, and reading rhythms. On Friday, our friends

and family will be invited to a performance where we will sing songs, play our own instruments, and

maybe even conduct a little! Instructor: Laura Kubilis

4B Moana and Maui

Enjoy a week of fun with Disney’s Moana! We are heading to the island for sun, sand, and fun! We will explore island culture, listen and move to the sound of music, have storytelling adventures, and create island art. And, of course, we’ll spend lots of time playing -- with the water table, with games, outside, and in our dramatic play center. Instructor: Cheryl McBride

All aboard! Pack your suitcase and let’s go on a trip around the world. The University School world

travelers will hone their map skills, learn about currency, and discuss different modes of transporta-

tion as they take virtual visits to some of the most beautiful and interesting places in the world. This

all-inclusive trip will include arts and crafts, sampling cultural foods, and the week will end with a

Mexican fiesta complete with a piñata! Instructor: Regina Ritchie

You are challenged to join the fun! Campers will be led in indoor and outdoor activities focusing on

logical thinking, figures of speech, analogies, inferences, and more. Our fun lessons will encourage

cognitive development, the use of auditory skills, cooperative teamwork and vocabulary enrichment.


3rd - 4th

4G Restaurant Possible

Kids will learn what it takes to start and run a casual Japanese restaurant/café from concept to menu

creation and pricing, prepping, cooking and opening the doors. This is a fun, fast-paced camp for kids

who are willing to jump in, work with a team, and enjoy the rewards of their hard work. The instruc-

tor for this camp, Mrs. Leslie Gore, is a former restaurant owner, so she is the perfect guide!


4th - 6th

4H Intro to Painting

No experience is needed! We’ll start with the basics of painting, such as mixing colors and learning

about intensity and value. We’ll compare styles of painting, learn vocabulary, talk about the history of

painting, and discuss techniques. We’ll create a color wheel and a chart of intensities, a 1”x1” cutout

from a larger image, and then students will create at least one painting of their own choice.

4I MARVEL-ous Adventures

Is your spidey sense tingling? Do you feel the need to save the day? This camp will fuel your love of

the comic book superheroes through games, snacks, the occasional craft, and, of course, your favorite

Marvel movies. Instructor: Melissa Hamby

5th - 8th

4J Advanced Academic Bowl

Buzz in! This camp is specifically designed for the advanced academic bowler. Students participating

in this camp should have been a part of a competition team or camp during the previous school year.

Students will learn common academic bowl topics for junior high and how to apply memory tools to

these areas. There will be daily practice and a tournament. The camp will stress best strategies for

playing on a team and in different quiz bowl formats. Instructors: Kay Strain/Teresa Smith

5A Dragons & Princesses: A Fairy Tale Musical

Come with us on a fairytale adventure as we sing songs, read stories, create, and learn all about mu-

sic! Be ready to dress up as a king or queen, a princess, knight, or even a dragon! With each fun activi-

ty, we’ll also be growing in our knowledge of music theory. Be prepared for a special performance at

the end of the week - you won’t want to miss it! Instructor: Laura Kubilis

5B Long Ago, Away We Go!

Join us as we travel back in time to the early pioneer days! We’ll dress like pioneers, cook some old-

fashioned recipes, play games from long ago, and have a grand time! We will also be doing some

sewing and creating art from the early 1900s. So, come along and “rough it” while we have a blast

5C Monkey Business*

Get ready for a “chimply” marvelous time! We will be “swinging” from one activity to another as we

board the “Banana Boat” (aka school bus) and travel to museums, splash pads, Whiteside and Chan-

dler pools, and lots of parks. We may also watch a few movies (G or PG). Hats, closed-toe shoes, and

sunscreen are required. Be prepared to get wet every day! Instructors: Eileen Rutter/Bernie Woytas

5D Nature Ninjas We’ll begin the week by reading the Magic Tree House book Night of the Ninjas. A combination of

nature and ninja crafts, games, snacks, and activities will fill the week. We’ll take an up-close look at

the wonderful world of nature, including natural resources, habits and habitats of animals, insects

and creatures of the sea. Campers will also enjoy indoor camping activities complete with an edible

5E Hogwarts Journey

Jump aboard the Hogwarts Express for a week of witchcraft and wizardry. We will make wands, mix

potions, play Quidditch and explore the fantastic realm of Harry Potter. Pack your imagination and

5F Grammar Games

Enjoy a week of indoor and outdoor activities to reinforce language skills as they relate to parts of

speech. We’ll play fun, non-traditional games to address many skills such as vocabulary development,

following directions, cooperative teamwork, and independent decision-making.

5G Mathamuse-ments

Math can be magic! This camp is filled with interesting and exciting math activities. Learn number

tricks and marvelous memory techniques, solve challenging puzzles, play games, and more. Get ready

5H Frogs, Hogs, Dogs & Other Musical Inspirations

Come enjoy a week of fun with the art of Sandra Boynton and her many musical friends. From Brad

Paisley to Meryl Streep and Patti LuPone to Beach Boy Brian Wilson, the music styles and artists are

many and varied. Students will analyze, categorize and intelligently review many of the more than 60

songs available in the several books published so far by Sandra Boynton. Instructor: Kathy Call

5I Minecraft, Sr. Each student will create a cardboard Minecraft village for interacting with the class. We will paint a

Minecraft t-shirt, play various games, and do Minecraft crafts. It’s a week of all things Minecraft!

5J I the 80s Nostalgia will be the muse for this camp, full of all the things that made the 80s a decade to remem-

ber. We will eat 80s snacks, play 80s games, and watch some totally tubular 80s movies.

5K Shark Tank - Japanese Restaurant

Students will develop a restaurant concept and propose it to investors. The proposal will include

writing a business plan, creating recipes, cooking, presenting, and enjoying the fruits of their labor.

This will be an eye-opening, high energy, exhilarating camp for adventurous team players!

5L Graphic Novels: Reading & Writing

They’re NOT just comic books! Unearth the weird and wonderful world of graphic novels, a fusion of

illustration and creative writing. Learn about the very first graphic novels and their authors. Camp

activities will include reading, discussion, videos with author interviews, and more. Students will be

able to share some of their favorite titles and will create their own graphic novel during the week.

Calling all nature lovers! Join us as we discover the many wonders of nature around the globe and in

our own backyards. We’ll enjoy and appreciate nature through art, books, and fun activities.

6B Rock, Roll & Rhyme

We’ll be making music in all sorts of ways this week! We’ll write our own song, create our very own

musical instruments using recycled materials, and have a talent show at the end of the week. We will

also be learning how to play different rhythms, and we’ll use movement to act out songs. Come join

6C Urban Campout

This indoor camp-IN will include an indoor campfire, an edible campfire, campfire stories, camp

snacks, nature crafts, friendship games and activities, and more. Campers will make camp buckets,

participate in basic first aid training, learn about the uses of a bandana, and explore the world of noc-

turnal animals. Campers will even take virtual trips to some of the most beautiful campsites in the

world. Grab your backpack and a flashlight, and let’s go camping! Instructor: Regina Ritchie

6E Field Trip Fun*

We’ll have a week of field trips in this fun-filled camp. Some of our activities and destinations may

include swimming, roller-blading, fishing, archery, skating, and water parks! You don’t need equip-

ment for these activities in order to participate. Rainy days will be just as fun and may include G or PG

movies. Field trips may vary depending on age of participants and weather. Snacks and Gatorade

provided daily. Athletic shoes/sneakers recommended. Be prepared to get wet every day.


2nd - 8th

6F Magnificent Math

Learn the language of math while enjoying indoor and outdoor activities. We will increase our math

literacy while having conversations about math problems. Verbal problem-solving and explicit strate-

gy instruction will be part of our fun and games. Friday will include a fabulous fraction party with

edible equations. (Magnificent Math may be taken on its own or as a continuation of Marvelous Math

from Week 1. This class will have new activities.) Instructor: Lorna Fuller

What’s exciting about spending time at a cabin? Relaxing, playing games, art, and eating! Join us for a

week filled with creating collages, painting, board games, and enjoying favorite cabin foods like

6I In the Cards If you like to play card games, this is the camp for you! Prepare to engage in epic card battles with

other students and the camp teahcers. We will pull in some additional board games as well and snack

6J STEAM: Science Tech Engineering Art Math

Explore the exciting, interdisciplinary world of the STEAM fields and learn about how current research

is shaping the future and solving global problems big and small. Each day will have a theme with

hands-on activities, and students will be given space to create connections between the STEAM fields

as we learn about the history of science, computers, and technology and discuss the impact of these

fields on our daily lives. Students will also be given time to research a topic of their own interest and
