The 1970’s
Class of 1970 members, Richard Gozur, Sr. and The Honorable Patrick Cunning,
enjoy playing Santa Claus to the delight of many children.
Cunning originally began playing Santa for his family, but when asked to fill in for St.
Nick at local events, he rose to the occasion. Initially wearing a fake beard, Cunning now begins to grow his
beard July in preparation for the holiday season. He has been the main man at
many local events, including the Mahoning County Bar Association
secretaries luncheon, Knights of Columbus, the township of Coitsville; and,
of course, his hometown of Campbell. Cunning’s
story of Santa was recently published in The
Youngstown Vindicator. Also donning his Santa suit, Rick Gozur, Sr., and
current Board of Education member (Class of 1970)
stopped by Campbell Elementary Middle School to
the delight of our youngest Red Devils and a few
alum as well. Sporting his own beard as well, the
little ones could hardly contain their excitement at the sight of ol’ St. Nick. Rick is
pictured with alumni Justine Beshara Truslow and Lenny Struharik Romito.

Coach Rozum Bids Farewell
Ed Rozum,
(Class of 1971)
has stepped
down as
Memorial High
School’s varsity
football coach.
Rozum
returned in
2014 for his 4th stint as head coach. His debut in
1978 was highlighted by a Campbell Memorial win
over Cardinal Mooney, which ignited Red Devil
football domination in the mid 1980’s under his
second tenure as head coach. Rozum and his team of
coaches and talented players solidified their place in
history by reaching the Division III state final game in
1989. Rozum again took his team to the Division IV
semi-finals in 1990.
Rozum ended his 2nd stint in 1993 only to return for
the 1999 season when he again took the Red Devils
to the playoffs.
Under his helm, Coach Rozum's teams made the state
playoffs six times, won conference championships
four times, and finished undefeated in the regular
season twice.
As a teacher, coach, athletic director, and principal,
Ed Rozum will always be remembered as a champion.
We thank you for your service and dedication to the
students of Campbell Memorial and for all of those
Friday night football memories!
