Our CommitmentAt Hofstra University, we believe Dining Services plays an important role in fostering a sense of community. We strive to create a home-away-from-home experience for students by providing the highest-quality food services while you pursue your educational goals.

Student-Focused DiningWe aim to exceed expectations by tailoring programs, services and dining venues to meet the ever-changing needs of students and the entire Hofstra community. Through customer satisfaction surveys, focus groups, comment boards, and an open door policy, we encourage communication and feedback to help us better understand how to match our programs and services with the needs of the Hofstra community. Our programs and services reflect the diversity and spirit of Hofstra University. Each location has its own identity, with a large variety of items available whenever your schedule allows. We offer 17 on-campus dining locations and a selection of meal plan options that vary in points and are tailored to any student’s schedule.

Why Go Anywhere Else to Eat?Look no further than the Hofstra campus to find great value, variety and convenience! We offer flexible meal plans that fit your busy schedule and stay within your budget. With a variety of locations and convenient hours, you can connect, refuel, and save time and money with one of our meal plan options.

New meal plan options allow students to choose the plan that best fits their eating habits. The Netherlands Café, which will be renovated for fall 2008, is located adjacent to the first-year student residential complex, and allows students the convenience of walking just a few steps and enjoying a great meal.

Commuting Student and Transfer Student Meal Plan Options: Note: Commuting students and transfer students may choose to purchase meal plan level 1, 2 or 3, or one of the plans listed below.

Level 4: This plan provides you with 1,395 points that can be used at any of the 17 on-campus dining locations. Cost per semester $1,395 Suggested weekly usage $87 Average per day $12

Level 5:This plan provides you with 1,275 points that can be used at any of the 17 on-campus dining locations. Cost per semester $1,275 Suggested weekly usage $65 Average per day $9

Level 6:This plan provides you with 695 points that can be used at any of the 17 on-campus dining locations. Cost per semester $695 Suggested weekly usage $43 Average per day $6

Level 7:This plan provides you with 360 points that can be used at any of the 17 on-campus dining locations. Cost per semester $360

mandatory First-Year Resident Student Meal Plan Options: All incoming first-year residents are required to purchase one of the three declining balance meal plans listed below. Each declining balance point is equal to $1.

Level 1: Best Value, Most Convenience! This plan provides you with 1,800 points that can be used at any of the 17 on-campus dining locations. Cost per semester $1,800 Suggested weekly usage $112 Average per day $16

Level 2:This plan provides you with 1,700 points that can be used at any of the 17 on-campus dining locations. Cost per semester $1,700 Suggested weekly usage $106 Average per day $15.20

Level 3:This plan provides you with 1,575 points that can be used at any of the 17 on-campus dining locations. Cost per semester $1,575 Suggested weekly usage $98 Average per day $14

How All Declining Balance Meal Plans Work: 4After you have selected and

purchased one of the meal plans, the points are activated on your HofstraCard.

4All declining balance plans come with a predetermined number of points. Points are deducted from the proper account each time a purchase is made and are nonrefundable.

4You have a choice of 17 on-campus dining locations that accept payment with the HofstraCard.

4You may begin making meal plan purchases on the Thursday prior to the first day of undergraduate classes.

4Fall semester unused points may be carried over to the spring semester provided you purchase the same plan as the fall semester or one of higher value.

4All unused points are forfeited the day following spring commencement.

4All meal plans are sales tax-free.

GOING GREEN at Hofstra University

Sustainability is a way of life … Acting today to ensure tomorrowLackmann Culinary Services, food service provider to Hofstra University, takes an aggressive approach toward maintaining an environmentally sound dining program and is constantly seeking out new and improved ways to further develop our environmental conservation plan. Current “going green” initiatives include:

4Styrofoam-free campus.

4Local produce and local vendors.

4Reusable mug and sports bottle program offers a discount on all fountain drink and coffee beverage purchases when students use the reusable mug and sports bottle.

4China and stainless steel utensils are available at several locations.

4Annual Going Green Event educates students on what Hofstra is doing to protect the environment and how students can get involved.

4We use only eco-friendly, unbleached napkins.

4Greenback card: We offer an array of incentive plans for students who request nondisposable plates.

Am I required to purchase a meal plan?If you are an entering first-year student living on campus, you are required to purchase a meal plan (please see page 2). First-year resident student meal plans range from $1,575 to $1,800 per semester. Commuting students and transfer students are not required to purchase a meal plan, but may choose any plan listed on page 2. Meal plan benefits include:4�You will spend less time shopping off

campus and less time in meal preparation and clean up.

4�You will have increased opportunities to take full advantage of all the academic, social and cultural resources available at Hofstra University while enjoying the multitude of on-campus dining options.

4�Most important, meal plans eliminate the need to carry cash.

If I have dietary restrictions and need assistance, whom can I speak to?We have an on-site registered nutritionist available for one-on-one counseling. She can also be reached via e-mail through our Web site (click on nutrition).

What should I do if I lose my HofstraCard?A lost or stolen HofstraCard should be reported to the HofstraCard Services Office immediately by phone at (516) 463-6942 or in person at 104 Mack Student Center.

Can I change my meal plan?Yes. You can change your meal plan at the start of the third week of each semester.

How do I keep track of my points?Each time you use your HofstraCard to make a purchase, your account balance will appear on the register screen. You may request a printed receipt at any time.

What do I do if I am running out of points?Additional points can be purchased online at any time, or you may visit the Office of HofstraCard Services, 104 Mack Student Center.

Will my unused points carry over from one semester to the next?Points may be carried over from the fall semester to the spring semester provided that you purchase the same plan or a plan of higher value for the spring semester. All points are forfeited the day after spring commencement.

Can I use my points anywhere on campus?Yes. Points are accepted anywhere on campus, including the Mack Complex and Shuart Stadium. In addition, your points are also accepted by Hofstra University Catering Services, which includes the Hofstra University Club, an upscale dining venue that may be reserved for special functions only (hofstrauniversityclub.com).
