LIFE IN KINGSTON

With a population of 160,000, Kingston is a thriving small city located on the northeast shore of Lake Ontario, at the source of the St. Lawrence River.

It is centrally located within a three-hour drive of Toronto, Montréal and Ottawa, and a six-hour drive of New York City and Boston. Kingston boasts a superb quality of life due to its big city amenities, waterfront location and rich natural landscape.

Established as a British fort in 1673, the city is blessed with a rich civic and architectural heritage, a safe and welcoming environment, and economic anchors of academia, government and industry. Recently, Kingston was ranked as having one of the top three vibrant downtowns in Canada.

More than anything, Kingston is a university town, home to three post-secondary institutions and more than 26,000 students. In the summer, it is a bustling tourist destination, due in part to its reputation as “the fresh-water sailing capital of the world”. Its eclectic downtown offers a variety of shops, restaurants and cultural resources not usually found in a city of this size. In fact, there are more than 100 restaurants to be found within a nine-block area in the downtown core.

The majority of Queen’s students live within a 15-minute walk to campus, eliminating the time-consuming commutes associated with universities in larger urban centres. As part of the greater Queen’s University community, you will have access to extensive student services, clubs, libraries and athletic facilities.

“Best four months of my life, no doubt! I wish I could go back and do all my four years here. I can’t really put it any other way. Keep on doing what you are doing now, and I swear most exchange students will love their time at Queen’s! “

“I had very high expectations. And surprisingly enough, Canada, Kingston and Queen’s lived up to every one of them. It was an incredible experience.”

“Queen’s is a great institution, in a great location, with great professors, with great facilities and great students and people. What more can a man ask for?”

“My experience at Queen’s met all expectations and even more: meeting people/good friends (exchange students and Canadians), different and interesting courses, a lot of travelling, improving my English, having a lot of fun.”
