Your Judges: Zone 2: Sandie Bond, RR 2 1505 1St Concession Road, Courtland, ON, N0J 1E0

I have had a love for animals my whole life. I have had many dogs as pets or have found forever

homes for the many that I have rescued. I currently live with Cowgirl, a mini dachshund, T-Bone, the

baby of the family who is a 150# St. Bernard, Annie, a black lab that was my first FTCH and Millie

who I found on the side of the road in Alabama when she was about five weeks old. Along with the

dogs I have two cats, Missy Moo and Mister.

In 1996, I purchased my first purebred Labrador. I named him Guinness. Not only did he love this

game as much as I do, he changed my career from being a Financial Officer at a bank to becoming a

Professional Retriever Trainer.

I’ve been very fortunate to not only judge but compete at all levels of field work, from WC’s and Hunt

Tests to running and judging OPEN’s in Field Trials both in the CKC and AKC events. I have had the

opportunity to train and compete with not only Labradors, Goldens, Chesapeake’s, Flat Coats, Nova

Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers but also Irish Water Spaniels, Deutsche Drahthaar’s and English

Cockers amongst others.

Having had competed in two previous National Masters I know and can appreciate how hard it is to

get to this level of competition. Congratulations to all who have Qualified.

I know that the grounds provided by the EFHRC are beautiful and pristine and will offer a variety of

terrain. Jeff, Susan and I look forward to setting up fair, fun, challenging tests.

A big Thank you goes out to the EFHRC for hosting the event. These events can’t be done without

the commitment and support from all who volunteer. Thank you to all. Every bit of help is appreciated.

I am honoured and humbled to be asked to judge and I look forward to meeting everyone.

Good luck and have fun.

Thank you for asking me to judge. I feel honored to have been asked to judge my second National Master stake. I purchased my first lab in 1987 and joined the Kamloops Gun Dog club. I did my first judging assignment in 1990 and absolutely loved the judging and setting up of the tests. I did Field Trials with my first lab to the open level and then switched over to hunt test in 1996. I have titled two dogs to their Master titles and two dogs to their Grand Master titles. I have a five year old yellow lab named Chloe who has her Grand Master title, her OTCH and she is a St. John Ambulance Therapy dog. I like to set up tests that are fair, challenging for the dog and handler and have a realistic hunt test scenario about them. There is nothing better for me than working with my dog and watching her do what she was bred and trained to do with enthusiasm, maybe a little too much enthusiasm. I love to grouse hunt with my dog. Remember, this is a team sport. Try and have fun and enjoy the event. Everyone has put in a lot of time and commitment to get here and I wish everyone good luck. I would like to thank the Eastern Flyway Hunting and Retrieving club for hosting this event and the many volunteers and sponsors for making this event possible.

My Father used to tell me that the best sound in the world was a mallard hitting dry ground. There were times however, when they landed with a splash. Growing up without a dog, I developed some basic retrieving skills as a teenager. While I displayed a certain degree of perseverance, my water entries usually lacked enthusiasm. How I longed for a retriever to spare me those soggy duties. What a happy day when that first squirming Labrador pup entered into our lives. Five dogs later, it can be fairly said that hunting retrievers have helped define our family.

Currently, two Labradors keep me from sitting in one place for very long. Jackson and Roy have taken me to five National Master events. Both have qualified twice, providing me with some thrilling, if not heart stopping moments. I know that reaching the National Master is a long and sometimes bumpy road. As competitors, you are to be commended for your dedication. You have worked hard to bring out the best in your retrievers. I tip my hat to you for accepting the challenge of attaining the most elusive title in the Hunt Test game.

I wish to thank Don Gillingham and the Eastern Flyway Hunting Retriever Club for all their hard work. It is an enormous undertaking to put on an event of this magnitude. The sponsors and workers must also be acknowledged, for without them, this week would not be possible.

I look forward to a great week of competition and camaraderie. Sandie and Susan and I will be working hard to bring you tests that are challenging, but fun as well. We have tremendous grounds to work with, and an eager field of competitors. Good luck to all, and remember to breathe.

Behavior and Conduct: The National Master Hunt Test Stake adheres to CKC Rules and Regulations regarding all conduct and behavior on the grounds. Additionally:

1. After a series has been officially set up by the judges, no dog on the grounds and still in competition shall leave the area of the series until it has been tested and excused by the Marshal, unless otherwise excused by the National Master Committee. Further, during the running of the stake no competing dog shall, while on the grounds, be exercised, trained or worked with the exception of a bumper thrown by the handler and this only in an especially approved area and only for the purpose of exercising the dog.

2. Any dog not entered in the stake and interfering with the running of the stake will be removed. 3. Exercise areas will be clearly defined. 4. Dogs not appearing on line when called will be given 15 minutes to do so. 5. Rotation of the starting dog will be used as directed by the Marshall. 6. No person participating in any capacity in the National Master shall be subject to an indignity of

any kind. An officially appointed discipline committee will investigate any concerns. 7. No dog is to be allowed to watch any test having just run the test or not, thus eliminating

confusion as to who has run and who has not and reducing the chance of dog fights. 8. The first scheduled test of the National will be announced. Each next scheduled test will be

posted with the callbacks. This procedure will help create fairness for all by eliminating possible competitive advantage for those involved in putting on the test.

9. Judges have no obligation to go ahead with a scheduled test as conditions may change.
