CarmichaelCollege
At Carmichael College, we are committed to the mission of educating students for life in the world and eternity.
This means that while we recognise the importance of
delivering high quality educational outcomes to students
for their lives now, we also value the importance of
relationships and a personal faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ. Ensuring a safe, nurturing and supportive
environment is key to our students’ learning, developing,
and exceeding their own expectations.

WELCOME
Welcome to the beginning of your journey here
at Carmichael College - a unique College with an
eternal vision. From our humble beginnings we
are building a school of great learning, pastoral
care and community.
The story of Carmichael College’s establishment
began in 2002 with land being purchased
in the Morayfield area. With great vision and
commitment from our Directors, Carmichael
College opened in 2015 with students from Prep
to Year 6.
From this time Carmichael College has continued
to grow and in 2020 Carmichael College will open
its secondary campus with the commencement
of Year 7.
The name Carmichael College is taken from the
missionary, Amy Carmichael, who devoted her
life to improving the lives of orphans and temple
children in India. Through her great faith in God,
she and her fellow missionaries built education
and health facilities to meet the needs of the
children. Most importantly she shared with the
children the love of Jesus.
Our staff also view their role here as a ministry.
Ensuring a safe, nurturing and supportive
environment is key to our students learning,
developing and exceeding their own expectations.
The first rule of our resilience program My LIfe
Rulz reflects this belief beautifully — I belong here;
I do belong.
We consider timely professional development
as an important part of maintaining professional
standards as well as ensuring our units of work
are Christ Centred and biblically based. I am
reminded of the verse in Proverbs 22:6 — “Train
up a child in the way he should go and when
he is old, he will not depart from it.”
I extend a warm invitation to you to read through
the following pages to discover a little more about
Carmichael College.
Yours in Christ,
Margot PinelPrincipal

OUR STORY
Carmichael College first opened its doors in
2015. Our College draws its name from the
missionary, Amy Carmichael, who devoted her
life to improving the lives of orphans and temple
children in India.
Miss Amy Carmichael
Miss Amy Wilson Carmichael (1867 – 1951)
was born in Millisle, Northern Ireland, where
she initially worked with the poor mill-working
women. Amy wanted to dedicate her life to
serving God by sharing the Good News about
the Lord Jesus Christ. At first she went to Japan
to work in a mission but finally,
in the mid 1890s, she began
her work at Dohnavur in
southern India where, in 1901,
she started an orphanage
for girls rescued from temple
slavery. The Indian Government
made this practice illegal in
1948. She remained there
for 56 years never returning
home again. The Dohnavur
Fellowship continues today,
now supporting approximately
500 people on 400 acres with
16 nurseries and a hospital.

Early Years (Prep – Year 2)
For a Carmichael student, Prep is the beginning of
their formal learning adventure. Your child will bring to
the classroom a natural wonder and curiosity about
the world and their place within it.
The Early Years will provide a critical foundation
for lifelong learning and the acquisition of life skills.
Early learning at Carmichael College takes place in
a nurturing, supportive and stimulating environment
that strives to meet the needs of all learners. Teachers
regularly pray for the students in their classes.
During these formative years our teachers assess, monitor and respond to each child’s learning. Our partnership with parents is fundamental to the development of our students.
THE CARMICHAEL JOURNEY
17
Junior Years (3 – 6)
As the Carmichael student enters the junior
years of schooling they continue to build on
existing relationships in and out of the classroom.
Academically they will be challenged to expand their
skills and knowledge in a classroom environment that
supports their individual abilities.
These years build on the strong foundations of the
Early Years as students expand their horizons to
explore a range of key learning areas. The Carmichael
student’s learning becomes deeper as they move
from concrete to abstract thinking.
Students are challenged to live like Christ — to love,
to accept and to forgive.
Our students in Years 5 and 6 are given increased responsibilities and opportunities to develop leadership skills as they interact with the younger year levels and serve in their College community.
19
Middle Years (7 – 9)
The Middle School at Carmichael College will provide
a learning environment that is relevant, meaningful,
and enriching. Focusing on the seamless transition
from Primary School, our Christian teaching and
support staff strive to develop the educational,
spiritual, social and emotional growth of our emerging
adolescent students.
Students will be challenged through a diverse
range of learning experiences, high standards,
and opportunities to develop responsibility and
accountability for their own learning, in a supportive
and nurturing environment.
Strong foundations are created in a well-balanced curriculum that emphasises literacy and numeracy, within a positive atmosphere underpinned by the core belief that every student belongs. Students are encouraged to become confident, enthusiastic and successful learners.
“Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education”
- Martin Luther King Jr.
21
Senior Years (10 – 12)
Preparation for life beyond secondary school is a
key focus in the Senior School. This preparation
incorporates two aspects: the pastoral pathway
encouraging resilience, independence and social
awareness, and the individual academic pathway
promoting excellence in education. Our aim is for
our students to leave Carmichael College feeling
confident to face the future with hope and optimism.
To this end, we challenge and support every individual
student and develop their skills and abilities, helping
them to achieve their maximum potential.
We recognise the uniqueness of our Senior School
learners and provide opportunities for them to learn
and develop as valued individuals. This is achieved
through meaningful relationships, relevant curriculum
and learning opportunities, and a sense of purpose in
a supportive Christian School community.
We strive to develop in students a deep understanding and appreciation for the world around them to enable them to graduate as educated, independent, creative, and resilient problem solvers, ready for life in the world and eternity.
