Coronary Primary Prevention Trial (CPPT)

• Hypercholesterolemic, middle-aged men

Pediatric Screening Strategies

• Decrease serum LDL cholesterol levels

• The more potent statins, atorvastatin, cerivastatin, and fluvastatin, also significantly decrease triglyceride levels, possibly serving as effective monotherapy in mixed hyperlipidemias

• Escalating dose titration to minimize side effects, particularly flushing

• Flushing– Usually transient and improves with duration of

and titrate dosing again
