ACQUA DELLA

MADONNA is a place

where people go to drink

water from the spring and

eat something at the

kiosks. This water is

called “acqua dei

navigatori” (sailors

water).

AMERIGO VESPUCCI it’s

an old sailing ship built by the

local shipyards

(FINCANTIERI). It is used as a

school for the navy.

s an arch with the statue of the

Patron Saint of our town . It’s

in via Mazzini opposite the

These biscuits are big and

hard. They are excellent if

dipped in a glass of acqua della

Madonna. In past times they

where used by sailors and

fishermen.

These woods are on the hill

of Castellammare. There are a

lot of chestnut trees. They are

the park of the Royal Palace.

Our town is famous for the

shipyards. Many important

ships and ferry-boats were built

in these shipyards. ( see A for

It is a Liberty style music

stand built in 1900. it is in Villa

Comunale and it is used for

music shows. It is also the

meeting place for many kids.

opposite the sea , it is very old.

Today it is used for weddings

church in our town. It is

devoted to our Patron Saint

San Catello . Every year there

are two processions with the

statue of the Saint starting from

the Cathedral.

the port of our town. It is used

LUIGI DENZA is a famous

musician and composer. He

was born in Castellammare in

1846.

His song «Funiculì Funiculà»

is worldwide famous.

It is a town near

Castellammare. It was

destroyed by Vesuvius in 79

A.D. with Stabiae and Pompeii.

Castellammare. It is 1100 m

high. It’ s full of woods and

enchanting landscapes. You

can reach it by car or by

It is an underground cave of

Roman origin. In 5th 6th

centuries ad it was used by the

Christians as a church. There are

interesting frescos, but it is

closed to the public.

town because tourist come here

for the Spa and for beach

holidays.

On the 8th December we

celebrate Immacolata. There are

bonfires in the different areas of

the town and a procession with the

statue of Our Lady early in the

morning with the people chanting

a traditional song called ‘Fratielle e

Surelle’

It is the football team of

our town. It was born in

1907. it plays in Romeo

Menti stadium. The fans of

the team are called WASPS.

Its colors are yellow and

blue.

It is not a mountain but it is

an ice cream shop in via Bonito.

You can taste a lot of different

ice creams. The best one is

“nocciutella” that is a mix of

nutella chocolate and hazelnut.

It is a long sea front avenue

from where you can see the gulf

of Naples, the islands of Capri

and Ischia, the Vesuvius and the

Rovigliano rock.

It is the new tourist port for

boats ant yachts.it is on the

outskirts of the town near river

Sarno.

Our town Hall is located in

Palazzo Farnese, a beautiful old

building next to the Cathedral.

Out of the Mayor’ s office

window there are the flags of

the European community of

Italy and of the town.

Naples is the city 28 kilometres

from our town. It’ s a big and

beautiful city with a lot of ancient

monuments and interesting

museums. Castellammare is in the

province of Naples. We reach

Naples by car or by

Circumvesuviana.

Piazza Orologio takes its

name from the clock tower that

is in the middle of it. The tower

is years old and it was recently

restored. You can see the façade

of the old Riccardi Biscuits

factory behind the clock.

Castellammare has got a big

port : a lot of cargoes with

different goods arrive from other

countries. There are also ferries

and hovercrafts connecting

Castellammare to Capri.

It ‘s name of an old measure

and the nickname of Piazza

hill of Quisisana. It is

surrounded by the woods and it

is a very beautiful. Now it is a

place for meetings and events..

Rovigliano is a very tiny rock in

the middle of the sea opposite our

town. You can see the ruins of a

fortress. Its old Roman name was

“Petra Erculis” that is “Hercule ‘s

Rock”, because according to a

legend, Hercule threw a piece of

rock from the top of Mount Faito.

This is the original Roman

name of the town. But it is also

the name of our school :

SCUOLA MEDIA STABIAE.

It is the oldest school in the town

and it is located in its centre.

The TERME (spa) are one of

resources of our town. We have

got two THERMAL places: the

Old spa, near Acqua della

Madonna, and the New spa on the

hill of Scanzano. There are 28

springs of mineral waters used for

recover many different illnesses.

This square is also called

VESUVIANA square because there

is the station of the

CIRCUMVESUVIANA railway .The

CIRCUMVESUVIANA connects all

the towns around the VESUVIUS

and it is the fastest way to get to

SORRENTO and NAPLES.

They are two villas on the hill of

Varano. They are very well preserved

and rich of frescos and mosaics. In

Villa San Marco you can also see the

kitchen, the spa and an enormous

swimming pool. The villas were

destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius

in 79 AD.The escavations of the villas

began with the Bourbons in 1749

If you want to taste special

traditional fried food you can try

WANA WANA. He is a street

food seller who goes around the

town whit his van. In summer he

seller lemon ice-cream. In winter

he seller “zeppole, “panzarotti”

and “polenta fritta”.

This is a yogurt shop in the

town center. It is very popular

whit young people and you can

taste yogurt whit different

topping (like fruit, cereal,

smartis) or pancakes and creps.

They are traditional small cakes

made whit eggs, flour, butter,

water and sugar stuffed with

Custard and cherries. They are

fried or baked and traditionally

eaten an March 19th Saint Joseph’ s

Day (father ‘s Day).
