A message from the Principal What a week we have had – a great start ! Welcome back everyone to term 3! The year is flying!! Students returned settled and rested – ready for learning. We commenced Week 1 with the 3-6 Athletics Carnival at Campbelltown Sports Stadium. It was a sensational day and the sun certainly added to the fabulous atmosphere! A message from the Principal

Positive Behaviour for Learning Each Monday morning we host a PBL Assembly where students are recognised for their attitude, effort and successes. These assemblies set the expectations for the week and ready the students for learning. Please ensure your children arrive promptly each day at 9am. At Casula PS we have high expectations for all students as learners and in the way they conduct themselves. All students are to be safe, respectful learners. Students are taught how to problem solve, make good choices, accept responsibility for action and demonstrate an awareness of collaboration, co-operation and creativity. When things go wrong, these mistakes are learning opportunities for next time. Student voice is a focus at our school and speaking respectfully to peers and staff is expected. Consequences for inappropriate behaviour is consistent, fair and in line with our Positive Behaviour for Learning strategy. Positive behaviour is also expected when students attend camps, excursions and PSSA. IF behaviour at school is inappropriate, students will not be permitted to leave school grounds with their class or their sporting teams. When at such events, our students are representing our school and the public make decisions about the school our students attend by the way they speak to one another, to staff and the respect they show towards equipment and facilities. This includes travelling on buses. Please remind your children about these expectations. The consequence for inappropriate behaviour jeopardises their inclusion in such events and activities.

Important Information for Parents and Carers At no time is it appropriate or permitted for a parent to approach a student in the playground who is not their own child. When things go wrong and there is conflict between students or an issue that happens on a weekend or at school, parents, carers and grandparents are to speak to teachers or a member of the executive who will manage the situation, hear student voice and work with students and their families. All students are to feel safe and respected when they are on school grounds. Parents who approach students and address them will be unable to be on school grounds. This is known as an ‘enclosed lands act’. Please respect the expectations all schools have in the interest of the safety and wellbeing of all students.

Breakfast Club Breakfast Club will now be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Join us at Central on these days for breakfast. Many thanks to Miss Remington White and the staff for co-ordinating this initiative.

Expectations at PSSA Students attending PSSA each week are representing our school in sport. Students sign a code of conduct about how they will interact with students from other schools, how they will follow directions from teachers from other schools and how they will respect the grounds on which we play each week. Students behaviour travelling to and from the venue will also be respectful and safe. Failure to follow this Code of Conduct will result in students not being able to attend. Likewise, if student behaviour at school is inappropriate, we will not be sending students off to sport. Our teams have been spoken to about this both last term and this term. I anticipate your support in this matter as unacceptable behaviour of some, jeopardises the safety of others and other parents and carers are seeing some of our student’s behaviour as inappropriate. Unfortunately, this has been reported back to us at school. Our students are talented in the area of sport and we are very competitive. Let’s ensure our students have a very clear understanding of what is expected from them so as they can shine!

Mobile devices I would like to remind parents and carers about the expectations we have at a school level on how such devices are to be used. PHONES are not for use at school. At our school, phones are used as a safety and communication device for students travelling independently to and from school. Mobile phones ARE NOT to be taken on the playground to take photos, video or make or receive calls. Numerous students are not permitted to be photographed for privacy and custodial reasons and this is to be respected. Unsafe or inappropriate use of devices may in fact result in individual students losing the privilege of having such a device at school. I seek your support in reminding your child/children about the safe use and expectations we have of how best to use such devices at school.

Update on our school rebuild after the storm Roofs on the library, administration block and toilets are currently being replaced. Lots of work has been undertaken over the break too in line with De Meryick Avenue. Gardens and grass are on their way and with painting and carpeting being completed in classrooms, staff are moving their classes from the demountables into their rooms. They look amazing with the maintenance being undertaken. Louvres have been installed on windows and COLA roofs have been replaced. Our school really is looking fabulous!

Our school is a ‘nut aware’ school A reminder to all parents and carers that we are a ‘nut aware’ school and need to be aware of the number of children your child goes to school with that has high level allergies. Many of these allergies being life threatening. We seek your support in being mindful when packing lunches to choose carefully. Many of our students are allergic to nuts, tree nuts, strawberries, egg and kiwi fruit. If at all possible please encourage your child to eat these products at home. I am mindful too that some students have a limited range of foods in their diet and this can at times cause concern. At school we have strategies in place to keep all students safe.

Have a terrific week everyone!
