IntroductionEmbrace and encourage technology in your lessons. Information Communication Technology (ICT) is defined as “the use of information in order to meet human need or purpose with reference to the use on contemporary devices such as the internet, etc.” This can be expanded to the various internet sites such as YouTube and the many resource sites. Utilizing in-house technologies such as multi-media presentations (PowerPoint) are also great tools to drive our catechesis programs.

In the ClassroomSt. Leo the Great school classrooms offer technology that is essential in our Catechesis program to our Public School students attending Religious Education during the week.

Classroom PCEach class is equipped with a PC and monitor with DVD player capability as well as the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

Gaining access to the PC

Each PC has multiple access Logon’s. Administrator Teacher Religious Education

The password for the Religious Education Logon is catechistNote: The Religious Education logon has its own profile; meaning, our own icons and file access are limited to our RE program Catechists.

Logging In:Note, some Teachers of the school leave their PC’s on and logged in. Some actually log off and turn off their PC.

If the Teacher is still logged in, it is essential that we DO NOT TURN OFF THE PC when we are done.You need to simply switch user.

Switching Users (if Teacher is logged in):Hold down Alt Ctl & Del keys

Select Switch User

Then, select the Religious Education Icon

Log in with the credentials provided, password is catechist

**********************************************************************************

If the PC was logged in by the teacher, simply select Alt Ctl & Del keys again then select Log off when you have completed your lesson for the evening.

Do NOT TURN OFF PC AT THIS TIME!

If the PC was Off:I would suggest you first try to move the mouse to insure the PC is indeed off and not in the sleep state. If it was in sleep mode, you may have to switch Users.

If the PC is indeed off, turn on PC by pressing the power button on the PC.

When prompted with User Icons, select Religious Education icon and log in with the credentials catechist

After using the PC for the RE session, files saved and programs closed, simply shut down as noted below:

Select the Windows icon on lower left of the screen. Left click and the following box appears.Select Shut down from menu

Using the Overhead

Each classroom is also equipped with an overhead projector and smartboard. The overhead projector is hooked up to the PC so that the PC information can be easily displayed to the students. The SLG Teachers have been asked to keep the remotes near the PC. If they are not there, they may be on or in the desk. Please return to remote back to the place it was found.

Simply point the remote to the Projector (not whiteboard) select on. In some cases after a few seconds, you may need to select “computer” if the PC screen does not appear.

If you want to use a peripheral such as an external DVD player, you may have to select a different source on the remote.

Using the Smartboard (Whiteboard)

Each classroom is equipped with a Smartboard or “Whiteboard’ that allows the Catechist the opportunity to teach the class without going to the PC to change pages or make notations on presentations.

Ideally, one should use the magnetic pens provided (usually on side of the board) however, tapping with the finger can work as well. The smartboard usually does not need to be turned on. The smartboard is connected to the PC with an HDMI cable located in the bottom left of the board. That is usually an indication whether it is hooked up to be used in conjunction with the PC.

Using Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint is a great tool to use when teaching. It allows a visual source of learning, different than the traditional reading from a book. It allows bullet points to get the important information from the lesson. PowerPoint is a very powerful tool that uses animations that make the presentation exciting and a fun way to learn.

Accessing CHOSEN Video Series
