A People of Life “When parents say „yes‟ to life for their child, they
are saying „yes‟ to the most loving and healing path
for all involved. When God invites us to draw close
to him by following his commandments (Jn 14:15),
he does so because he wants what is best for us. By
saying „yes‟ to life for their child, which is morally
good and right, parents are placing their trust in
God and embracing their child and the life their child
has been given for as long as it is given.”

The Presentation of the Lord
On this feast it is the first time that we see Jesus in
the Temple. Simeon, who has been waiting for the
Messiah his entire life, gives us the beautiful prayer
which is prayed in the Night Prayer in the Liturgy of
the Hours: Now, Master, you may let your servant
go in peace…for my eyes have seen your salvation
which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples, a
light for the revelation to the Gentiles and the glory
for your people Israel. This blind man sees the light,
but also knows that this light is a sign of contradic-
tion. Some will follow him, others will deny him,
holding on to their own designs rather than submit-
ting to the King of Kings. We ourselves struggle
between following him and selfishly going our own
way. And so we pray for God's grace. At night we
examine how we have cooperated with that grace.
As we continue to conform our lives evermore to Je-
sus, we come to recognize the free gift of grace and
mercy in our lives and so are able to share the good
news of his mercy with those we meet.
The Lord Calls… Do not be afraid. If the Lord is
calling you to ordained or religious life do not be
afraid. Jesus calls, and leads the way. If your
search for the Lord is leading you to a vocation to
the priesthood, diaconate or consecrated life, talk
to Fr. John or Fr. Christopher Carrara at (315) 393-
2920, ext. 1340/ [email protected] or Cathy
Russell, the Diocesan Vocation Coordinator at (315)
393-2920, ext. 1450/[email protected]. See us

Offertory Envelopes for 2020: Because
they have installed new production equipment, our
envelope provider has been unable to deliver our
order prior to January 1. If you are running low on
temporary envelopes please contact the office for
more until our envelopes arrive. Thank you for your
cooperation with this! We depend so deeply on the
financial sacrifices for the Church you make. With
your help our provider's issues will not end up
harming our parish finances.
Please remember to include your name or en-
velope number on the temporary envelopes.
We are not able to record your contribution
without a name or envelope number.
Minute Meditations Mary and Joseph present their newborn Child in the
Temple, even though Jesus, the Son of God, is al-
ready “consecrated to the Lord,” and Mary has no
need of purification. Yet, their humble and obedient
fulfillment of the law enables us to see our salvation,
to encounter our long-awaited consolation and re-
demption. Jesus us shown to be the Messiah, and
“the sword of sorrow predicted for Mary announces
Christ‟s perfect and unique oblation on the
cross” (CCC529). And just as Mary carries her Baby
to the Temple, she presents us to the Lord through
her intercession.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT CORNER: Did you
know? ...
Did you know…abuse is never a child‟s fault. This is
a point that children need to hear repeatedly. Of-
fenders try hard to make children feel complicit in
the abuse or to blame them for the abuse. Children
must be taught that this is never true. The blame
always belongs to the adult who is taking advantage
of a child‟s trust and vulnerabilities. For learn more
about the Diocese of Ogdensburg‟s efforts to protect
children, visit: https://www.rcdony.org/safeenv.html
