FINANCIAL UPDATE #1
The parish is operating on “bare
bones” staffing. It was decided to move
judiciously with the many staff changes
this past year (Sister Vicki and Philip
Porter; Faith Formation & Facility
Management) and most recently the
retirement of LaVerne Alt (Finance
Manager). These three employees were
full time.
Several of their ministries are
now staffed by part time employees and/
or contracted out. Jenny Smolen cares
for the finances, Deb Airey for the office
management, Lisa Reid for RCIA.
Maintenance is cared for by Dan
Homsher and Steve Andrezeywski, as
well as one contractor who has cared for
many of the renovations here at the
parish. The savings due to the reduction
of salary and benefits is projected to be
about $75,000 for this fiscal year.
Of course with the loss of staff,
there are some details and ministries that
may not happen as quickly and fully as
in the past; please be patient with us!

Over the next few weeks the
Finance Committee will be
giving some updates regarding
the finances here at the
Catholic Community of South
Baltimore. The first item of
interest is listed to the right. If
you have any questions
regarding the topic, please
contact a member of the
committee or the parish office.
While on the topic of
finances, I wish to make a
special request to assist the
volunteer money counters. If
you use envelopes, and you
send in a month’s worth of
envelopes at a time, it is easier
for bookkeeping and money
counters if you send just one
envelope with one check. For
instance, if someone sends in
five envelopes on January 24
dated January 3, 10, 17, 24, 31
each with a $20 check, the
office does not tabulate that
you gave $20 each week - we
tabulate that you gave $100 on
January 24. In addition, the
bank charges for each check
that is processed. Though a
minute fee, it does add up, and
it is better to deposit one $100
check rather than five $20
checks.
Recently several
checks have been received that
were scotch taped to repair a
tear. The bank does not accept
these, and they are returned
(which requires us to return
them to you!) Please don’t
send in taped checks.
