Dinner 5:30 PM/Court Meeting: 7:00 PM 4th Monday of Each Month (Except June through August)

El Zaribah Shrine Center - 552 N 40th Street Phoenix, AZ 85008 - Phone (602) 231-0300

Princess I hope everyone had a happy, healthy & safe summer. I'm very thankful that my son, Major Derek Baird, came home from Afghanistan on July 22nd. A week later

my nephew returned. Hopefully they will never have to go again. I went to Indianapolis with my husband for the Shrine Imperial Convention. Along with a few other ladies

from Sphinx Court I volunteered a few hours at the LOS booth. It was great meeting ladies from other courts. Our Grand High Priestess was at the booth also. She combined Imperial with her Official Visit to Tarum Court and we were invited to attend, so Jackie Miller & I went. What a wonderful time we had. Everyone was so friend-ly & treated us well. Dinner was great, kind of a picnic/ BBQ menu. Since the court is dark this time of year, they barely had enough women to fill the offices and their musician was one of the inviting officers. Since there wasn’t any music, our own Lady Jackie stepped right in & tickled the ivories to everyone's delight! I felt like a proud ma-ma!

By the time you receive this issue it will be a short few weeks before our own OV from the Grand High, as well as WAOUM in Tucson. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at these events.

High Priestess Ladies, welcome back from a very hot summer. I hope you all had a great summer and stayed healthy. Is everyone ready for our visit from our Grand High in September? September will be very busy, a trip to Tucson for their visit from the Grand High, then our visit with Lady Jan, books examined and then

back to Tucson for WAOUM. Lady Jan is a very nice lady and I’m sure you’ll all enjoy her visit. I hope there would be a lot of us going to WAOUM, so if you are able to attend, please make an effort to go.

We are planning a Luau on November 9th, so please talk it up to your family and friends and help to make this a very successful fund raiser for our court. The units are asked to donate baskets with a Hawaiian theme and will have a 50-50 opportunity so start selling those tickets and talking it up now.

We’re also having a table at the corn fest, with assorted items to sell so stop by and see us. Thank you Gina for watching over the court while I was gone.

Recorder Please check your dues card. If there is not a big red 2013 in the center of it I haven’t received your dues for

2013. Dues are $25.00 and I can hardly wait to receive your check and self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of your 2013 dues card. Your membership is important to us and the children of the Shriners Hospitals.

Associate Princess I trust you all have had a wonderful summer, mine was exciting to say the least. It is now time to wel-come our Grand High Priestess to Phoenix. I hope you are gathering your donations to our children in the hospitals and will bring them to the meet-

ing on September 18th. The hospitals always need crayons, washable markers, underwear in all sizes for the kids, notebooks, lap blankets, etc. If you bring stuffed animals, they must be new with the tags still attached.

See you in September and remember you are the “Beacons of Light” for the kids in the hospitals. Dragonfly Luck, Lab Licks, & Lighthouse Love,

First Ceremonial Lady Welcome back ladies! The summer just flew by and now we’re back in business with a bang! It’s offi-cial… at Grand Council in May changes to the membership were made. This year we voted that a new member may be endorsed by two (2) ladies in good standing and may or may not be related to a

Shriner or a Master Mason. Ladies no longer have to have a Masonic affiliation. We have every opportunity to gain membership this year and in the future.

For the Fall Membership Tea, held in August, I sent out over 25 invitations to ladies that you recommended. I want to thank everyone for their help in making the Membership Tea a wonderful success. I hope that we will have a good group of candidates for the October Ceremonial.

Clowns We hope you’ve had a wonderful and fun summer, but it is now time to get back to “work” for the kids. The

Clowns had a Fun Day in July where we discussed upcoming events and ate, we worked on makeup and ate, we sewed and ate, and overall enjoyed the fellowship of one other. It was a very bump noses sort of day.

September 12 is our first meeting back. We will have dinner in the Red Fez room starting at 5:30 PM, with our meeting starting promptly at 7:00 PM. Please come and join us.

October 10 is our Halloween meeting where we will welcome our High Priestess as she makes her official visit to the Clown Unit. The mischief begins at 5:30 PM in the Red Fez room and the horrors will follow with the meeting at 7:00 PM. We would love to have you to come and join in the mayhem as we honor Lady Dee. Costumes are welcome!

We extend healing thoughts and prayers to those in need and may safety be with our Servicemen and women as they serve this great nation of ours. Best wishes and welcome back!

Lady Kay Akers, Vice Pres.

Ceremonial Pageantry I hope you have all had a safe and restful summer. The date for the Official Visit of our High Priestess needs to be changed so be watching and listening for the

new date. Our Card Party on November 2nd will be one of our big fundraisers to raise money for our travel so mark that

date on your calendars and plan to help and attend. Our Unit Secretary and I wish to apologize to Lady Lynn Hatch, PHP for leaving her name off our roster in the

new Court directory. Lady Jean Glover, PHP , Pres.

Unit & Club Happenings

Second Ceremonial Lady Welcome back to a busy fall with the upcoming Official Visit from our Grand High Priestess Jan on September 18th and WAOUM in Tucson September 19-21. I hope your reservations are in for our Tucson Visit.

Our Court Official Visit is WEDNESDAY, September 18th. Dinner will be served at 5:00 pm. I have been informed that the menu will be "A BIG SURPRISE", in honor of our Grand High. We know that the Director Staff has a lot of great cooks, so I am not worried about what it will be, and know we will all enjoy it. As always, reser-vations are a must by Sunday, September 15th. Also, if you are not going to be at the dinner and are on the standing list, I must know by the 15th. The price is still $10.00. Call either my home, 480-990-1298 or cell: 602-622-6381, if no answer, please leave a message.

Director Staff Hope everyone had a great summer and managed to keep cool. It is hard to believe that it is almost the end

of August and Christmas is just around the corner. Tickets are still available for the opportunity to own a Kindle Fire HD - the drawing is to be held at the December Court meeting. We are all looking forward to WAOUM in Tuc-son in September and will have 23 members of the Director Staff attending. All of the ladies have been working hard at practices and will, once again, provide a flawless performance during our unit drill. A special treat for all will be the performances of not one, not two, but three Hoop Dancers - it will be great!

Please join us at our next meeting on Monday, September 9th with dinner in the Red Fez Room before the 7:00 p.m. meeting.

Greeters Unit Wow, where is the summer going? I hope everyone is having a wonderful time. The next meeting of the Greeters Unit will be held September 14 at 11:00 at Bill Johnson’s Big Apple off of

Thunderbird and 19th Avenues. Please notice that this is a change from our usual date due to a conflict of gather-ings on the usual day.

Greeters are needed at the door for the Official Visit on September 18th also for the Ceremonial on October 19th and would like for the Greeters that have one, to wear the greeters purple outfit, at least those that aren’t of-ficers or aides.

Sphinx Patrol Our long hot summer is just about over and we’re about ready to start another busy season of working for the kids. Our

first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 3, 2013. We’ll meet for dinner around 5 – 5:30 and have marching prac-tice at 6:15 prior to our 7 pm meeting.

I hope that all of our WAOUM attendees will be able to attend this meeting and practice. Our practices during the sum-mer were lots of fun and we learned how to do 3 lines – now we just have to perfect it so we look REALLY good while march-ing in Tucson. Just a reminder that marching attire is black slacks, long sleeved white shirt, close toed black shoes, and Court vests for our performance.

See you soon – stay well, safe, and happy and keep working for the kids! Lady Linda DuBois, PHP, Captain
