The IT market is currently rebounding from a phase wherecompanies were primarily interested in cutting costs and avoi-ding risks. The pressure is there to invest, and clients are nolonger holding back.
Focusing on the essentials - codeword “outsourcing”
Software and IT services stand to benefit most from the co-ming wave of investment, and the trend towards outsourcinga broad array of IT services - for example, accounting, pro-gramming, even network maintenance - is more in vogue thanever. Services and software that allow businesses to focus ontheir core competences are particularly prominent in the Bu-siness Intelligence sector, but also in the area of CRM andSCM. This new software needs to deliver measurable resultswithin a fairly short period of time, as many enterprises willotherwise tend to consider such an investment premature;viewed from this angle, the continuing convergence of soft-ware structures appears inevitable.
The challenge of the mass market: newnetworks of opportunity
The telecommunications sector is gearing up for the newmass market involving Voice Over IP applications, and no onewants to be left behind in the global race for broadband appli-cations market share. The inroads into daily life being madeby the Internet are reflected in new buzzwords like eHealthand ePaper as well as an array of different entertainmentformats. Providers are promoting their Wireless LAN applica-tions particularly heavily. Security is another key topic, alt-hough “loads of security applications” does not necessarilyequate with “loads of security.” Here the challenge is to deve-lop and implement individually scaled security solutions andservices - particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.
