Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies is the world leader in water and wastewater treatment with more than 155 years of experience and 350 proprietary technologies including CeraMem® Ceramic Membranes.

CeraMem ceramic membranes combine innovative design features and unique materials of construction to provide ceramic membrane modules with exceptional performance for microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) applications.

This proprietary design allows the utilization of large-diameter ceramic monolith membranes that reduce the overall footprint of installed equipment in operating environments unsuitable for conventional membrane products.

The CeraMem® Membrane Technology Product Platform

• Robust, large-diameter monoliths as membrane supports

• New, chemically-durable, highly abrasion-resistant ceramic MF & UF membranes

• Very high packing density with large membrane area in a single membrane module (10.5 m2)

• Competitive module, life-cycle and systems costs

• Designs available with low fouling properties

• Suitable for elevated temperature operation & processing of non-aqueous media

• Reduces power consumption through reduced crossflow velocity operation without adverse membrane fouling

There are a variety of industrial markets and applications that are especially suitable for CeraMem ceramic membranes. Specifically, those applications with the following requirements or operating conditions:

• High operating temperatures; >40°C

• Chemically aggressive (high/low pH levels)

• Removal of emulsified oil & grease

Veolia offers feasibility and pilot-scale testing utilizing CeraMem ceramic membranes. These tests have been conducted in both our facilities and in the field utilizing systems designed specifically for several applications.

Lab-scale membrane elements (1" x 12", 27 mm x 305 mm) are available for test work in both 2 mm and 5 mm square channel formats. Test equipment is available for rent and sale or feasibility trials can be performed in-house. Lab-scale membrane modules are available with an area of 1.40 ft2 (0.13m2) for 2 mm feed channels and 0.75 ft2 (0.07 m2) for 5 mm feed channel elements.

Feasibility Studies and Pilot Testing Capabilities

Specific Applications

Operating Parameter Range

Oils > De-oiling and silica removal of oilfield produced water, desalter bottoms deoiling, oily-water emulsions, edible oils, waste oil treatment

Water and Wastewater > Tertiary effluent disinfection, alkaline cleaner recovery, industrial effluent membrane bioreactors (MBR), industrial laundry wastewater treatment, MF and UF applications from Fischer-Tropsch reactions, emergency drinking water systems

Chemicals > Solvents, latex dispersions, glycerin purification, paints

Foodstuffs > Sugars, starches, milk, whey, yeasts, juices

† Housing options available are FRP and various steels including SS316, SS304 and SS2205. Various elastomeric seals are available, including EPDM and FKM.

†† Actual crossflow velocity will be application specific.

††† At 140°F, 10 ft/sec crossflow velocity corresponds to 0.019 (2 mm channel) and 0.016 (5 mm channel) theoretical hp/ft². At 60°C, the same crossflow velocity in metric units is 3 m/sec and the power consumption is 0.15 (2 mm channel) and 0.13 (5 mm channel) kW/m².

Did you know?Veolia offers the FMS series of CeraMem ceramic membrane systems. Supplied with 1 to 52 full-sized membranes and production flow rates ranging from 1 gpm (0.2 m³/h) to 730 gpm (170 m³/h), they are supplied as pre-engineered, skidded, crossflow systems for most industrial microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) applications.

The FMS Series is designed to be flexible with several options, including tanks, ancillary equipment, automatic backflush and CIP systems, and a variety of membrane types and channel sizes.
