The CMT-A is designed to train system familiarization, Maintenance Operational Checks (MOCs), Fault Isolation Procedure’s (FIPs) and Remove/Install tasks in support of AN/AAR-57 (V)7 AVUM (Aviation Unit Maintenance). The training device allows the student to test and trouble shoot the entire system including the simulated flare and chaff loads in the launcher.

The trainer provides realistic, high fidelity and safe training for ground maintenance operations and procedures. The CMT-A serves as the primary selected hands-on training media used by instructors to strengthen maintenance personnel’s skills and knowledge in the following areas:

• Acquisition of task related skills and knowledge • Overall familiarity with the system components• Maintenance practices and procedures• Advanced skills development• Training environment flexibility to provide high life-cycle task performance at low cost• Use of Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE)

Apache AH-64DCommon Missile Warning System (CMWS-Apache)

Maintenance Trainer

The CMWS Maintenance Trainer Apache (CMT-A) provides a training platform for development of the maintenance skills for Avionic Mechanics with Army Personnel MOS 15N on the counter measure systems onboard the AH-64D aircraft.

This fully digitized maintenance trainer incorporates an Instructor Operator Station (IOS) that allows the instructor to impose up to 36 different faults and to monitor a student’s maintenance actions in response to imposed equipment faults.

The Student training station includes the following devices related to the Counter Measure Systems:

• Electro-Optic Missile Sensor (EOMS)• Pilot and Copilot Cyclic Grip Assemblies• MIK Switch Panel• CMWS Control Panel (CCP)• Control Indicator (CI)• PDP Circuit Breaker Panel• Sequencers• Safety Switch• Squat Switch• CDTs• ECU Service Panel• Payload Modules• Dispensers• Countermeasures Dispenser Test Set (CDTS)• Electronic Control Unit (ECU)

The CMT-A is designed to replicate the CMWS AN/AAR-57 (V)7 for the Apache AH-64D platform configuration to house and stimulate or simulate all components, wiring harnesses, and assemblies necessary to provide realistic training.

The trainer system software consists of real and non-real-time computer software configuration items necessary to simulate/stimulate system equipment, systems, and subsystems operation to allow the CMT-A to meet functional fidelity and training task requirements specified for the trainer. The Instructor/Operator Station (IOS) software consists of real-time and non-real-time computer software configuration items required to provide a graphical menu system for the Instructor/Operator.

The IOS provides two modes, one for training and one for maintenance. The menu system allows both the Instructor and the Maintainer access to the trainer system. The Instructor can run the automatic Daily Operational Readiness Test (DORT), monitor and control the training scenario, and observe and evaluate student performance. The Maintainer can run the DORT in automatic mode and manual mode to troubleshoot and repair the trainer.
