Celebrating With A Different Kind of GiftBy Rev. Chris Shorow, Senior Minister
Num-
bers
can be
specialto us.
They
are
very
signifi-
cant
in the
Bible. 12 disciples, 12 tribes of
Israel, 40 days in the desert, 153 fish
in a net, even 7 days in a weekall
have significance. What about your
lucky numbers?
I was born on March 163/16, at
3:16 pm in room 316 of the hospi-
tal. So, naturally my favorite scrip-
ture must be John 3:16. My son,
William was born on 9/9/00, and
last year on 9/9 he turned 9.
This year witnessed anothernumber miracle. Emily Gresh and
her friend Riley Henson both had
their 10th birthday on 10/10/10.
Pretty impressive, huh? They share
many things in commontheir
hometown, a love of art, a Girl
Scout troop and a soccer team. So
this year they had a joint birthday
celebration. But instead of asking for
gifts, they decided to ask their guests
to donate to their favorite charities.
On 10/10/10, Breakfast on Bou-
levard and the Regional Food Bank
of Oklahoma received gifts in honor
of these two loving servants. Pretty
impressive for ten-year-olds. For
that matter, its impressive for any of
us. They realized that the gifts that
would truly last were the gifts theycould provide for others, especially
those in need.
Its a great lesson for all of us.
This Christmas season we will be
focusing on gifts that dont break
gifts that touch the hearts of others
and that serve others. You will have
the opportunity to give donations in
honor or memory of loved ones. I
think its a great idea for many occa
sions. It reminds us that all we have
comes from God.
Meanwhile, I wonder who has a
birthday on 11/11/11?
I would like to say thank you to all of
the First Christian Church members
who donated money to Breakfast onBoulevard for my 10th birthday. I
was able to give BOB over $500.00
Thank you very much!
Emily Gresh
We would like to add that we are so
lucky to have such a great base of
Christians who are helping us raise
our daughter. She has wonderful
role models to learn from when
she attends Sunday school, UNITE,
helps with Sprouts or sits at theWelcome desk or any other areas
she can be found in while hanging
around her second home! We feel
blessed to have so many outstand-
ing people here at FCC that con-
tribute so much to Emilys life.
We are so grateful to you all!

Do youremember
what it
was like
to be a
newcom-
erone
who has
just joined
a new
group and the awkwardness of finding
your way into the life of that group?
learning names and being included? Its unsettling, isnt it? Uncomfortable.
You want to participate, know some
of the possibilities, but just dont knowwho to talk to or where to begin.
Such are the feelings of many
who decide to join our church family.
First, there is the question of which
familya Sunday School Class, a
Unite program, and/or a worship
group? Then, there is that over-
whelming flow of activities and church
ministries they have begun to learn
about in Discover First Christian. But
where does that new member begin
to connect, invest energy, becomeinvolved, and commit? Its so discon-
certing, yet vital to feeling connected.
For that reason, your MembershipMinistry Team is looking for a few
servants who are comfortable with
home visits, meeting new members,
personally welcoming them, and
helping them assimilate into the life of
our church family. This is obviously a
ministry of grand importance.

for prayerfully considering this new
and vital, ministry opportunity.Your Membership Ministry Team

A new Sunday morning class geared
toward our college students/young
adults began on Sunday, October 10.
Kevin and Sally Leonard, as well assome of our college students, will be
offering leadership for this class. Cur-
rently they are meeting in the Fellow-
ship Hall at 10:00 a.m., with plans to
move to room 208 within the next few
weeks.
To help us in this endeavor, we
need your assistance. Here are a few
ways you can help.
1. Pass the word to those who might
be interested in being a part of thisclass and encourage them to attend.
2. If you have a college student and/
or young adult you would like to have
placed on our e-mail list, please send
their name and e-mail address to
Greg at [email protected]
3. If you are interested in helping
with this
ministry in
any way,
please letus know.
We would
like to
build a
network of
adults who are willing to share in the
leadership of this important ministry.
